The India Today-Axis exit poll projected 166-194 seats for the BJP-Shiv Sena in the 288member Maharashtra assembly and 72-90 for the CongressNCP alliance. The exit poll by News18-IPSOS gave the BJP
a near-majority on its own by predicting a whopping 142 seats for the party and 102 for its ally Shiv Sena. The Congress and NCP will bag 17 and 22 seats only, it has predicted. and 64 for the saffron alliance and the Congress-NCP in Maharashtra. In 2014 the BJP and the Sena had won 122 seats and 63 seats respectively followed by 42 and 41 seats by the Congress and the NCP. 60.46 pc voting in Maharashtra polls
Maharashtra Assembly elections held on Monday saw a voter turnout of 60.46 per cent till the closing hour of 6 pm, election officials said here. The final figure of polling could increase and it will be available on Tuesday, officials said. In the last assembly election in 2014, the state had
oncologists and urologists too, besides one specialist each in nuclear medicine and immuno-hematology. The NMC president further emphasised that doctors must give enough time to patients, listen to them and explain their illness to them in detail. She, however, regretted that majority of the doctors today did not give enough time to their patients nor understood them, especially the poor and uneducated, which often led to miscommunication and fear among the latter. She remarked many doctors took their responsibilities very casually and somehow wanted to finish their official duties, whereas the patients who hardly understood considered their ailments as something terrible, often leading to anxiety and distress among them. On the allegation that many government doctors
recorded 63.38 per cent voter turn-out.
Haryana records 65%
Haryana on Monday recorded a voter turnout of 65 per cent in the assembly polls, a sharp drop from the 2014 elections which brought the BJP to power in the state. Seven people were hurt in stone-pelting between two groups in a Nuh village and there were “minor incidents” in Rohtak, Narnaul and Bahadurgah districts, police said. But they maintained that polling over the 90 assembly constituencies was largely peaceful. The turnout was less than the 76.54% in the 2014 assembly elections and the 70.36% recorded over the state’s 10 parliamentary constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections this year.
continued to practise in private nursing homes after attending morning duties and even after availing non-practising allowances, Joyce observed that their conscience perhaps allowed them to do so. Calling for stopping this practice, she reminded such doctors that they were robbing the government. She also urged the State government to revamp the Nagaland Health Care Establishment Act for streamlining many things. Dr. Joyce asserted that NMC was committed to work with diligence and in fairness by using the same yardstick for all practitioners of modern medicine in the State irrespective of their tribal, caste, political or bureaucratic affiliations. NMC, a statutory body that has direct linkage with Medical Council of India, was constituted by the State government in 2014.
DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): Ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has hit out at the opposition NPF for alleging that it has been “instigating Nagas” to accept solution regardless of whether separate Naga flag and constitution . In a statement, NDPP Media & Communication Committee, termed the NPF’s allegations as “absurd and ridiculous” adding they were “irresponsible utterances” and “absolutely reprehensible” coming from a matured political party like the NPF. NDPP pointed out that it including its party government are not parties to the ongoing dialogue as talks have always been left to the negotiating parties for working out a “mutually acceptable formula, that is honourable, democratic and long-lasting.” NDPP said on its part, it has been making all out efforts to act as an active facilitator and cited the continuous deliberations between the chief minister, members of the cabinet and elected members including consultations with all sections of stakeholders. NDPP also said it has been holding consultations with members of the PDA coalition and that it (NDPP) had never shied away from shouldering its responsibilities in any manner. Further, NDPP said the of-

Nagaland observes Police Commemoration Day Correspondent
KOHIMA, OCT 21 (NPN): Nagaland police joined the rest of the country in observing the Police Commemoration Day by remembering the sacrifices of policemen in line of duty at a function held at New Police Reserve, Tennis Court, Phesama here on Monday. On October 21, 1959, CRPF scripted a saga of valour and sacrifice in the snow-laden, inaccessible, inhospitable terrain of Hot Springs in Ladakh. A patrol party of 20 CRPF personnel and Intelligence Bureau had gone to search for a missing reconnaissance party when it was ambushed by PLA (Chinese Army). In spite of the sudden attack and disadvantageous tactical position, they fought valiantly against the Chinese army personnel who were in large numbers and heavily armed. In this

battle, ten CRPF men were martyred in defence of the country. Since then, Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year to honour the loyalty and supreme sacrifice of police personnel for the nation.
Led by DGP Nagaland, John Longkumer, police officers and paramilitary personnel laid wreaths and paid homage to the brave and courageous policemen who have laid down their lives. In his address, Longkumer reminded that the duty of a
policeman required a lot of sacrifice to ensure that the society was safe. He said on daily basis policemen combat antisocials, terrorists and disruptive forces that threaten to tear nation from the inside, but the sacrifice of a human life was the supreme sacrifice. DGP reminded that Nagaland police personnel have also made such supreme sacrifice and have lost many precious lives both at home and outside in the states like Chhattisgarth and West Bengal. He said the courage and sacrifice of those martyrs would always be remembered by the department and also by those they died protecting. He said that altogether 292 policemen all over India have laid down their lives in the service of the nation this year alone. (Cont’d on p-7)
ficial party delegation led by the chief minister and party president had called on the governor to deliberate on the prevailing political scenario and also assured the Interlocutor of the party’s support for talks and for an early and honourable solution. NDPP also said PDA leaders led by the chief minister and NDPP leaders have been holding consultations with negotiating parties and representatives of the government of India for finding ways to create a congenial atmosphere for positive progress of the talks. Instead, NDPP asked what has the NPF done, besides issuing “venomous press statements filled with personalised attacks?”Asking if it was not time to put Naga political issue above everything, NDPP advised NPF to “wake up the these realities.” Further, NDPP reminded that demands of negotiating parties have been clearly spelt out to the people and neither it nor PDA and state government were directly part of the ongoing negotiations. Therefore, NDPP said there was no question of any of the above, “giving conditions or suggestions on the competencies of the solution.” Asking NPF, which claimed it was a mature political party not to confuse the minds of the people
with “ its habitual lies and false convictions”, NDPP reiterated its support for the principle of the Framework Agreement and an early resolution of the decadesold Naga political issue in any manner that was honourable and democratic and which respects the “unique history of Nagas.” As the Naga political issue was above all, NDPP said NPF should stop “ its habitual lying leaders” by refraining from using the issue in order to score “cheap political points”. Instead, NDPP said all sections of Naga society should work collectively in order to achieve an early and honourable political solution. It asked why NPF had “suddenly woken up from its slumber and making such political statements by immorally using the Naga political issue for its selfish purposes?” Urging NPF to stop using the issue of political brownie points over a crucial matter for Nagas and all future generations, NDPP asked NPF instead, to come forward with a positive attitude “without their baggage of ill-will and vested interests.” It also made a clarion call on all Nagas to continue upholding the ongoing negotiations through prayers as talks have now reached an extremely crucial stage that will determine the future of Naga generations.
ENPO calls for a unified peaceful solution DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has reiterated its appeal to all negotiating parties for a unified, acceptable, peaceful and lasting solution to the Naga political issue, saying that unity, peace and amicable settlement was the “motherly prayer of the Naga people”. ENPO through its media cell stated that expectation of the Naga people from a solution was enduring peace in the entire Naga areas. However, ENPO said it would not be possible until all Naga political groups come together and hammer out the differences, if any, and place common agenda before the government of India for an amicable solution. ENPO also sought to make its stand clear that it was not a party to endorsing public mandate favouring any particular political group. However, ENPO has

DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has threatened to hold a series of “democratic mass based protest” following state government’s failure to act on its ultimatum even after the lapse of more than a month. It therefore appealed to all right-thinking Naga citizens to come forward and lend their support in its fight against backdoor appointments. In a press note, NSF appealed to everyone to take ownership of the “righteous cause” and be relentless in their collective pursuit to tell the government that Naga youths would no longer accept practices that were responsible for the stunted growth of Naga society.
