India up to any challenge: PM Modi Says nation will hit back with double the force if sovereignty is threatened
NEW DELHI, OCT 21 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that India would retaliate with double the force if anyone tried to harm its sovereignty. In a lengthy speech invoking valour and recalling the contribution of the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) in the freedom movement, Modi that his government was committed to taking “big and bold” decisions and that the Indian Army was being modernised as per the vision of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Modi made the remarks while speaking at the Red Fort, where in a departure from protocol, he hoisted the national flag to mark the commemoration of the 75 years of the establishment of the Azad Hind Sarkar, the government of “free India”. The Azad Hind government was raised by Bose during the freedom movement. He acknowledged that India has “marched several steps ahead” in the years since Independence but maintained that it was yet to reach new heights of glory. Modi claimed that the NDA government was committed to “achieve this goal” by going ahead with the vision of a new India “at a time when destructive forces are attacking us”. “It is the duty of every Indian to be inspired by
Netaji, to fight such forces, to defeat them, and to contribute to nation building in their full capacity,” he said. Modi also blamed the previous governments for looking at the country with an “English perspective”. Modi recalled Bose’s words: “With the power of weapons and sacrifice of blood, you have to achieve freedom and then when the country will be free, you will have to make a steady army for the nation, whose
work will be to protect our freedom”. “Today I can say that India is moving towards the creation of an Army that was visioned by Netaji. Josh, Junoon aur Jazba, these have been parts of our Army for long but now technique and moder n weapons and equipments are also being combined with them. “The strength of our Army has always been for self protection, and it will
remain so in the future too,” he maintained. Modi stressed that India has “never been greedy” for somebody else’s land. “This has been our history. But whosoever poses a threat to Indian sovereignty will be answered with double strength. Several attempts have been made in the past four years to strengthen our Army. “The best technology is being made available to Indian Army. This government has the courage to take big and bold decisions. And this will continue in the future too. From surgical strikes to making the Netaji files public, the decisions have been made by only our government. Homosexuality morally unacceptable, says CBCC
DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): Notwithstanding the recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down Section 377(a) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) thereby decriminalizing homosexual acts, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) has declared that it would never support such an unholy practice which was morally unacceptable. In a press note, CBCC executive secretary Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo said that the council deliberated the matter at length in its executive meeting held from October 18 to 19 and reaffirmed the Biblical and moral stand of the Church and arrived at a number of resolutions. According to CBCC the Church as a body of Jesus Christ has a scriptural obligation to speak to the world on moral issues and not give its silent consent to evil. With this in mind, it further stated that explicit and overt homosexual practices and behaviours were in complete contravention to the Biblical sanctions on human sexuality. It mentioned Leviticus 18 & 20, Romans 1:18-32, and I Corinthians 6:9-10 to support this point. The council further laid
down an assertion that that homosexual acts and behaviour between consenting adults were morally unacceptable because it violated the aim of human sexuality which, it said, was procreation and the union of love, accomplished in the union between men and women in marriage. “...even if the homosexual acts are now legalised, it is not morally acceptable or justified. What is legal is not equal to moral acceptability” it stated. CBCC noted that the decriminalization of homosexual acts was likely to induce the legalisation of homosexual union, but, it said that the Church would continue to uphold the Biblical teachings recognise, promote and protect marriage between men and women as the basis of the family and the primary cell of society. Maintaining that homosexual practices went against the will of God including all other sinful practices, CBCC pointed out that God loves the sinner yet hates the sins, and resolved to continue to witness the love of Christ to all people regardless of sexual orientation with utmost understanding, compassion, sensitivity and dignity.

estimated to have a street value of about Rs 1 crore. Yimto said the drugs were seized by a team led by a sub-inspector of the narcotics cell of Nagaland Police at the Khuzama inter-state border with Manipur on August 3. The contraband was found in a car coming from Manipur and two persons were reportedly detained. Strangely, no case was registered and Yimto did not send a sample of the drug seized for forensic test as required, the report stated. “No case was registered and the two persons were allowed to go with a promise that they will come back with the kingpin. They were just conduits. I told my subordinates to convey to them that the police would reward them,” Yimto said, adding
“unfortunately they did not come back”. Yimto claimed that the brown sugar was initially kept at the store room of the narcotics cell at the state police headquarters till August 17 and then he decided to take it home, thinking it was not safe to keep them there. “It was safe in my house as it has round the clock security,” he said. Asked why the DGP was not informed in the intervening period of August 3 and 25, Yimto said, “I was very busy with official duties and official tours.” ADP Renchamo P Kikon who carried out the seizure and the preliminary enquiry in the incident said he will have to cross check if the drugs were initially kept at the store room. on its way to Lanak La. Longkumer said while members of the two parties returned to Hot Springs by afternoon of that day, the third one comprising of two police constables and a porter did not return. He said all available personnel were mobilized
early next morning in search of the missing personnel, and a party of about 20 personnel of the Intelligence Bureau and CRPF led by Karam Singh, DCIO proceeded on horseback while others followed on foot in three sections. The DGP recalled that at about mid-day, Chinese Army personnel on a hillock opened fire and threw grenades at the party led by Karam Singh and since there was no cover, most of the personnel were hit. He said ten of the police personnel died, seven were taken prisoner by the Chinese and the remaining managed to escape and the bodies of the 10 personnel were returned by the Chinese only on November 28, 1959 -- a full five weeks after the incident. These bodies were cremated with full Police honours at Hot Springs. (Cont’d on p-7)
