45-day ultimatum served on School Education department DIMAPUR, OCT 20 (NPN): General public of Chungliyimti village, Chungliyimti Students’ Union (CSU) and Chungliyimti Village Council (CVC) have jointly served a 45-day ultimatum with effect from October 22 to the school education department for deputing at least one Math and Science teacher each besides other teachers at GPS Chungliyimti A in Tuensang district. In a joint memorandum to school education principal director, the organisations warned of taking their own course of action thereafter, for which they said the department would be held responsible. They also threatened not to allow the school to function from the next academic session with this situation as there was no reason to have a school where there were not enough teachers. According to the
memorandum, the members of both the organisations and general public adopted a resolution in this regard on October 18. Pointing out that GPS Chungliyimti located in Chare area of Tuensang district was the only school in the village, the organisations regretted that it was functioning in a very pathetic condition since the last three years with acute shortage of teachers that had hampered in ensuring quality education to the students. And as per their inspection on October 15, the organisations said there were only three teachers – two PT (Art) and one GT (Art) – at present and all of whom were untrained. They added that the school was functioning without Mathematics, Science and Hindi teachers, due to which the students were not getting quality education. (Cont’d on p-7)
