Ayodhya case enters final lap in SC Section 144 CrPC clamped in Ayodhya till Dec10 NEW DELHI, OCT 14 (AGENCIES): Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been clamped in Ayodhya as the Supreme Court’s revised deadline for wrapping up the proceedings in the sensitive Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case approaches. The prohibitory orders will continue till December 10, officials said. Posting the order on his official Twitter account, District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Jha said,”The order has been issued considering safety and security of Ayodhya and those visiting here as Govt’s paramount concerns.” The Supreme Court Monday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide security “forthwith” to the UP Sunni Central Board of Wakf Chairperson Zafar Ahmed Farooqui as he apprehended threat to his life. Noklak dist issue: NVC reacts to CPRO objection DIMAPUR, OCT 14 (NPN): Drawing attention to Chingmei Range Public Organization (CPRO)’s objection to the inclusion of Chingmei range in Noklak district, the Noklak Village Council (NVC) Monday asserted that the demand for according district status to Noklak was “never intended” to marginalize any section of people of the erstwhile Noklak subdivision, but to uplift social and economic condition of the people through development. In a press release, NVC chairman Panpan and Noklak village head GB Khusoh stated that turning the good intention of the leaders into “endless tussle” leading to enmity among the fellow brothers and sisters was “unfortunate and unbecoming”. On the “practical difficulties” raised by CRPO such as job opportunities and distance due to headquarters being located at Noklak, NVC said it would be “sign of amnesia” to forget the privileges and opportunities enjoyed by Chingmei range people since the inception of Noklak sub-division.
tion bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi took note of the communication addressed to it by a member of the mediation committee that Farooqui has informed him about the threat to his life. “We direct the Uttar Pradesh government to provide security forthwith to the chairperson of the Sunni Wakf Board,” said the bench, which also comprised Justices S A Bobde, D Y CHandrachud, Ashojk Bhushan and S A Nazeer. The court order came at the end of the hearing on 38th day in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri masjid land dispute case. When the bench was about to conclude the day’s hearing, the CJI said he has received a communication from senior advocate Sriram Panchu, one of the mediators in the Ayodhya case, that Farooqui was facing threat. Questions put only to us, allege Muslim parties: Muslim parties alleged before the Supreme Court Monday that questions are asked only from them and not posed to the Hindu side during the hearings in the politically sensitive
Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri masjid land dispute case at Ayodhya. The comment was made by senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for the Muslim parties, before a 5-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. “Your Lordship didn’t ask question to the other side. All the questions have been asked to us only. Of course, we are answering them,” Dhavan told the bench on the 38th day of the crucial hearing. The submission was vehemently opposed by senior advocate C S Vaidyanathan, representing deity ‘Ram Lalla’, who said: “This is totally unwarranted”. Former Attorney General and senior advocate K Parasaran, also representing the deity, opposed the claim of Dhavan who created flutter in the packed courtroom by making the claim. Dhavan’s remark came when the bench, which also comprises justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S A Nazeer, said that the idea behind erecting iron railing at the disputed site during
the British rule was to separate the inner courtyard from the outer courtyard. By putting up an iron railing, the idea was to separate Hindus and Muslims and it was to appreciate the fact that Hindus were offering prayers in the outer-courtyard where ‘Ram Chabutra’, ‘Sita Rasoi’, ‘Bhandar Grih’ were situated, the court said. The bench also took note of Dhavan’s submissions that the Hinuds only had “prescriptive right” to enter and offer prayer at the site and it does not mean that they had the ownership claim over the disputed property. “As you say they had the right to pray and enter, does it not dilute your right to ownership,” the bench asked, adding in case of “exclusive ownership” over a property, can a third person be allowed entry and prayer right. The protracted hearing in the case entered the crucial final leg Monday as the top court resumed the proceedings after the week-long Dussehra break. The hearings are slated to close Thursday. Dhavan would continue arguments on Tuesday.

Bihar Police had recovered Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL), AK47 assault rifles and live cartridges in Purnia from an SUV. “It was an organised racket. On interrogation of an NSCN cadre, it was found that funds were transferred through banking channels. Almost Rs 2.15 crore was transferred to the NSCN cadre’s account from ban,” said NIA IG Alok Mittal on Purunia incident while addressing an event in New Delhi. The NIA officer said

State capital Kohima can look forward to traffic decongestion started their service even before proper rules were framed or necessary legislation passed by Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Nagaland Two Wheeler Taxi Association president Chumben B. Yanthan informed this correspondent that the bike riders were aware of the consequences, but clarified that they started the service to earn their livelihood. He also said the association was also well informed and were very particular about the safety of their passengers. An office bearer of All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) pointed out that there were certain rules which the state government was supposed to strictly implement. For instance, he said the transport department needed to enforce certain environmental laws while issuing permits for new vehicles and at the same time bar vehicles more than 15 years to ply. He said there was an
urgent need to streamline the registration of vehicles as some families owned more vehicles than the number of members. He also suggested that vehicles, both commercial and private, should be thoroughly checked on whether they had proper registration and documents. He commented that every citizen has a responsibility towards easing traffic congestion in the town as more private vehicles than commercial vehicles were parked randomly . He said if the zonal vehicles were shifted to new ISBT, 40% of traffic congestion would reduced. On some taxi drivers demanding higher fares than prescribed, on the pretext of traffic jam, the ANTA official maintained that no extra charge could be made by any driver due to traffic jams. In any such event, he said a complainant should bring it to the notice of ANTA office here.

NEW DELHI, OCT 14 (AGENCIES): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband Parakala Prabhakar has said that the government is in denial mode about the economic (Cont’d on p-7) slowdown. In a column for The Hindu, Prabhakar has said that while sector after sector is facing a rather challenging situation, the BJP government is yet to “show signs that it has come to grips with what ails the economy”. In a critique of the BJP government, Prabhakar said that there is very little evidence to show that the BJP government has a strategic vision to address the challenges reports Business Today. Explaining the problem with the government’s “After GST, we can’t have ways of handling the crisis, No 2 book or overcharge Prabhakar added that BJP under the excuse of illegal has an “inexplicable reluctaxation.” tance” to develop its “own

These include – around 750 local taxis, over 150 two-wheeler taxis, over 100 buses, pink buses, zonal taxis, mini-trucks, departmental buses, school and college buses, government and private vehicles. Shifting of zonal taxis and buses to ISBT was also a suggestion made by the All Nagaland Taxi Association since the past few years. The State transport department is unable to limit the number of permits that
can be issued for commercial vehicles as the Motor Vehicle Act does not specify any such limits. This has also in a way, enabled the department to earn more than Rs 135 crore in 2018-19 even though NST is unable to generate enough revenue, said a departmental official. coherent set of ideas about the country’s economy”. He said that while the rejection of the Nehruvian ideas of socialism has always been clear with the BJP, but its own advocacy can at best be “loosely termed as capitalist, free market framework”, which has remained untested in practice. “The party’s economic ideology and its articulation were limited to mainly critiquing the Nehruvian model from
the fringes of the political spectrum,” he mentioned in the column. “The issues that catapulted the party on to the centre stage of the country’s political discourse and then to the seats of power both in the Centre and in various States had little to do with the articulation of an economic road map and its endorsement by the electorate. Nor did the economic direction the country ought
to take figure as a serious point of debate and discussion at any point in the highest platforms of the party,” Prabhakar said. He said that the present leadership of the party was aware that the party was not identified with a distinct economic philosophy and hence, did not offer the party’s economic performance as a claim for re-election. “It instead chose, wisely, a muscular political, nationalist, security platform,” he added. In rather sharp words, Prabhakar said that the BJP’s attack on Nehruvian economic framework is nothing more than a political assault and “can never graduate to an economic critique”. In the column he suggests the BJP leadership to take a leaf out of PV Narasimha Rao-Manmohan Singh’s economic policy.
NEW DELHI, OCT 14 (PTI): BJP president Amit Shah said on Monday that he will make way for a new leader to head the saffron party when its organisational elections are over by the end of this year. Shah, who is also the Union home minister, said a new party president is expected to take charge by December. ZB (N) dismayed over ‘sidelining’
DIMAPUR, OCT 14 (NPN): Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) has expressed dismay over the “complete sidelining” by both NSCN (I-M) at Hebron and Raj Bhavan, Kohima in the recently concluded consultative meetings with all the tribal hohos by both the negotiating partners on Naga peace talk. In a press release, ZB(N) president C.R Zeliang and General Secretary Aluibe Iheilung stated that if any individual or group represented as Zeliang tribe or Zeliangrong in the past, they did not represent the tribe but handpicked by someone outside of the community. If such mistake was repeated, the signatories said the Baudi along with its cognate units -- Zeme Council, Liangmai Council, and Rongmai Council, which were mandated by the people, would not remain silent. They said sidelining Baudi was “nothing more than a great insult” to a particular tribe when the Nagas were moving together toward an honourable solution. “It is therefore to avoid leaving out the Zeliangrong Baudi, a mandated apex body of the community in dealing with Naga issue, corrigendum be carried out by the concern authorities for future notifications,” ZB(N) demanded.
