The selection will be based on factors such as history, performance and its roadmap to reach global benchmarks. A third party professional agency will be involved in the selection process.” Even as the PM extolled Bihar’s historically high standing as a land of knowledge, saying the state’s “heritage of knowledge is as old as the flow of the Ganga, on whose banks Patna University stands,” he
gently rejected the demand for central university status to this institution. Replying to a request made by chief minister Nitish Kumar in his speech earlier about giving Patna University the status of Central University, Modi said, “I would like to say something about a demand that was raised here and met with loud cheers by the young crowd attending this ceremony. Issues like grant of central status have become a thing of the past. We are taking a step forward. We will provide an assistance of Rs 10,000 crore to 10 private universities and an equal

MCD denounces fake news report DIMAPUR, OCT 14 (NPN): Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has expressed serious concern over news reports published in section of the regional and national media, following a fake post that went viral on social media creating communal tension. In a press note, MCD working president, A. Rahman said that the news was carried out by “Noida based Sudarsan Tv” about the possible attack on Nagas by Rohingya militants. Rahman said “ANI Nagaland is widely believed to be its main source.” According to MCD, the fake news claiming to have quoted the intelligence branch of the Nagaland Police had stated that “20 ISIS members have entered Nagaland and 2000 Muslim volunteers have agreed to take up arms against the Nagas and a local Imam has started collecting funds
for buying arms and suicide bomb attacks, likely to be carried out throughout Nagaland.” MCD said the religious Iddagh Committee Dimapur had already issued a clarification about the non-existent Imam and the allegations, while the police had also denied giving out such statement. While lauding the local media houses of Nagaland for their responsible journalism by not publishing such unverified/fake news, MCD however condemned the irresponsible act of some regional and national media agencies. In this regard, MCD has fervently appealed to those regional/national media houses to rectify their mistake through the same process by which the serious mistake was committed. MCD said that the council would be compelled to initiate legal action if their request was not hon-
oured. Further, MCD has appealed to the law enforcing agencies to trace the antisocial element/s involved in spreading the fake news, creating social disorder and enmity among the citizens and for bringing bad name to the state of Nagaland. MCD has also thanked the citizens of Nagaland for their understanding and also sought the guidance and cooperation of all to streamline the Muslim society of Dimapur to maintain peace and harmony. Meanwhile, highly placed sources in the Police Headquarters informed Nagaland Post that the department had taken serious note the issue and the allegations that the intelligence branch had given out such statement. Sources also informed that an inquiry has been initiated and the Cyber Cell of the PHQ has been tasked to trace the source.
have studied in Patna University. In Delhi, I interact with so many officials, many of whom belong to Bihar. I consider it my honour to visit Patna University and be among the students. I bow to this land of Bihar. This university has nurtured students who have contributed greatly to the nation.” Modi also heaped praise on Nitish Kumar for his “commitment” to Bihar’s development, as the two leaders shared the dais for the first time after the JD(U) returned to the NDA fold following a split from the grand alliance. “Nitishji is committed to the development of Bihar and the central government has pledged to develop the country. Together the two will work to ensure that Bihar is counted among the prosperous states by 2022 when the country celebrates 75 years of independence,” Modi said. He went on to add that Bihar has been blessed by Saraswati, the Goddess of learning. “But the time has come to propitiate Laxmi (Goddess of wealth and prosperity) as well and take the state to new heights of development,” he said.
