Dec 4 meeting: CNTC censures NLA speaker D I M A P U R , N OV 2 5 (NPN): Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has questioned the NLA speaker, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, for deliberately ignoring the CNTC, an apex platform of three tribes-- Aos, Lothas and Sumis, while inviting others for the December 4 consultative meeting on Naga political issue. Making it known that it was not desperate to attend the meeting, CNTC reminded the speaker that the council had been vigorously and tirelessly putting its maximum efforts in trying to bring all NPGs to the negotiating table. CNTC has therefore directed all its units not to attend the programme. “It was an intentional step to sideline the sacrifice of organizations like Nagaland Tribes Council and CNTC, who are trying to unite all NPGs, stressing on inclusiveness of all groups

for a solution acceptable to all section of the Nagas,” CNTC stated. It further questioned the speaker that if some apex platform of other conglomerations could be invited, together with all their tribal units, why should the CNTC as an apex platform of three tribes be snubbed or ignored intentionally? The council said such move was “a direct insult and a deliberate motive of divisive policy of some elected representatives.” It said such politics did not augur well for a healthy and positive outcome for the already fragmented society. CNTC said “some groups” that have been invited for the meeting were always in the “government’s favourite list” and “mouthpieces of some particular group.” Such favouritism and biasness has only distanced them from the common people, it added. CNTC also reminded

all concerned that “the Naga Hoho no longer represents the entire tribes of Nagaland as the tribes under ENPO and CNTC have already disassociated from it.” Any responsible elected representative should be aware of all these, it added.

Corrigendum by Speaker’s office

Apropos the news item-- ‘Consultative meeting on Naga political issue’ published on November 25, the NLA Speaker, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, through its OSD, has expressed regret that it had inadvertently missed out on inviting Naga Tribes Council, Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Western Sumi Hoho and Nagaland GB Federation for the consultative meeting to be held on December 4. In this regard, the speaker’s office has invited three members each from the four organizations to attend the meeting.

lic institutions, the UNO, organizers of this event, had emphasized the focus on education for the year 2017. Dr. Temsula said GBV was not necessarily physical; it may comprise of verbal abuse through derogatory remarks about physical features, family status and even performance in studies and said such abuse and overt sexual innuendos hurt the victim’s reputation. The chairperson said many perpetrators have

taken the resources of the numerous portals of social media to harass and abuse their targets in this manner and this has become an alarming aspect of GVB. She appealed to the tribal women hohos to create awareness about safeguarding the human rights of all by using the principle of social behaviors as a tool to “end GBV in education”. The chairperson maintained that this will not be an easy task as the patriar-

chal attitude of the men-folk towards women had not changed much. However, she said it was the duty of the women to make the men-folk understand such issues. She urged the tribal women hohos to ensure the success of the “16 days of activism” by displaying the banners, posters in strategic places of their headquarters and sub-division, and by distributing the pamphlets. She also emphasized that the campaign does not end on December 10, but should continue till Nagaland can come out and say that it has eradicated GBV in education. Dr. Temsula also released the book “Baseline Survey on Social, economic and political empowerment of women in Nagaland”. NSCW also distributed pamphlets and banners to all the district representatives. K Y M C
