Angami senior citizens differ with APO over the issue of agitation
KOHIMA, NOV 16 (NPN): With the agitating Public Coordination Committee (PCC) comprising of ACAUT Nagaland, PSAN and other organisations appearing on collision course with the Angami Public Organisation (APO) elder citizens of the Angami community have taken a stand in clearing the mist. It may be recalled the APO had issued a statement before the PCC undertook its sit-in demonstration, that no protests or agitations would be allowed under APO jurisdiction during the festive season. The statement had caused much resentment among elders as the APO stand could be interpreted as a stand against any protest or agitation over corruption in the government. The citizens held their meeting at the Red Cross Conference Hall here today where the issue was the focus of discussion. The Angami elders and senior citizens expressed anguish
and displeasure over APO’s statement that barred protest and agitation “under its jurisdiction”. The senior citizens had pointed out that APO was formed for upholding the rights of the people and to work for their welfare and land. The majority felt the APO decision had compromised the honor and prestige of the whole Angami Community. Angami elder Kevi Suohu said the civil society organisation was supposed to work for the people’s welfare and not to act as volunteer for festivals, feasts and events funded by “corrupt politicians and bureaucrats”. Suohu reiterated that APO was formed to support and fight for the rights of the people and ensure justice and not to disallow others from agitating for a noble cause. According to him, the protest under the banner of Public Coordination Committee (PCC) demanding setting up of a Lokayukta and stopping backdoor appointments was “ just” and
Security concerns hit mobile network along NE borders
Dr. Liezietsu extends olive branch to NPF (Rio-Zeliang)
AGARTALA, NOV 16 (IANS): The Indian government is yet to decide on improving the mobile networks along certain border areas of the northeastern states due to security reasons, a top BSNL official said on Thursday. “The BSNL has set up BTS (Base Transceiver Stations) along the international borders with Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. But the Indian government is yet to decide on setting up BTS along the international borders of other northeastern states due to security reasons,” BSNL Chief General Manager (NE Circle-1) K.K. Saxena told IANS. “Currently, the BSNL has been setting up BTS five kilometers away from the borders. If the government asks us, we would set up the BTS close to the bordering areas to improve the mobile services along the borders.” Saxena said the BSNL is the third major player among all the telephone service providers operating in the northeastern states. “The BSNL has launched many customerfriendly schemes to further expand its base among the people,” he added.
D I M A P U R , N OV 1 6 (NPN): Former chief minister and NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has held out an olive branch to NPF (TR-NR) leaders as he urged them to join the party’s General Convention (GC) at Khuochiezie, Kohima on November 22. In what appeared to be a fervent appeal and also a final call on Thursday, Dr. Liezietsu termed it as “unfortunate and shameful” on the part of NPF to have an internal problem for almost the entire tenure of the 12th NLA. He also regretted that many NPF leaders had left the party without having proper understanding about the intention of those forces that had been creating the problem. “I know that all those leaders would not leave the Party if only they know the

reiterated that when leaders make mistake, they should own moral responsibility. Recalling the beginning of the formation of APO, Angami elder Krurovi Peseyie asserted that the leaders during the earlier days were committed to serve the people and not influenced by any political party, faction or vested interest. He urged the present leaders of the APO to uphold the old tradition of serving the society with commitment. Senior citizen of Kohi-
ma, Chupfuo Kense pointed out that during his tenure as APO general secretary, the APO had passed a resolution (no.7) on February 3, 1996 restricting individuals, groups/organizations from holding any kind of bandh or protest etc. without the permission of APO. He said the resolution was passed “with the intention of avoiding violence, bloodshed, riot, etc. in our community by individuals or group having selfish vested interest.” (Cont’d on p-8)

ngami Public Organisation (APO) has clarified that the APO governing body on November 10, 2017 had unanimously decided to issue the declaration in the interest of all. In a press note, APO president, Dr. Vilhousa Seleyi clarified that the decision was issued on behalf of APO and not on the individual capacity of APO vice president, K.T. Vilie Theünuo. “It was published at the behest and on behalf of the organization after threadbare deliberation and consultation. We do support all efforts by different sections of our society in its quest for justice as a public body,” Dr. Seleyi said. In this regard, Dr. Seleyi has appealed to everyone concerned to understand this as responsible citizens of our society.
black magic behind all these games,” he maintained. Dr. Liezietsu admitted that some time as human beings “we all commit mistake or make wrong decision”. However, he emphasized that such mistakes should never drive them away further from the truth out of super-consciousness as there was always time to take the right path again after realisation of such mistakes. Dr. Liezietsu extended invitation to “all former leaders who left the party because of the confusion created by some undesirable elements”. “This is a call to all leaders who really love this party and its symbol ‘Cock’. For them it will be nothing new but home coming. Make the right decision at the right time and join me before the GC for a better tomorrow,” he appealed.

K O H I M A , N OV 1 6 (NPN): Second day of the sit-in protest under the banner of Public Coordination Committee (PCC) backed by ACAUT, Public Servants Aspirants of Nagaland (PSAN) and other organisations, passed off peacefully here on Thursday. Calling for removal of the “looting machine” in Nagaland, he also advised the young people to agitate democratically and without resorting to violence. In his address, one of the PSAN members sarcastically said besides resorting to backdoor appointment, people in power were even giving “window appointment”, alleging that the minister, head of a department and officials had their own quota for jobs.
Nagaland becomes first NE state to launch POS for paying electricity bills Correspondent
KOHIMA, NOV 16 (NPN): Nagaland scripted history on Thursday when it became the first State in the Northeast to launch Point of Sale (POS) facility for electricity bill payment, where the mode of payment will be cashless. Launching the POS at the Kohima electrical subdivision, chief secretary Pankaj Kumar acknowledged the efforts of commissioner & secretary Power and IT&C, KD Vizo, who was instrumental in setting up the POS machine and bringing visible changes in IT&C department. The POS facility would now enable the consumers to pay their electricity bills as cashless transactions has been made available to them, he added Kumar said POS would also benefit the Power department as its staff need not be engaged in counting and handling cash any longer, except monitoring the statements, thus saving time and energy. He said this would help the department improve its revenue collection. Stating that Power de(Cont’d on p-8)

partment had incurred a loss of Rs. 150 crore approximately in the previous year, the chief secretary said there was lack of adequate support in term of resources to maintain the revenue generation system and urged both the department and consumers to come together in solving the problem. He also said this loss was one of the highest in the country. Further, he appealed to the consumers to pay their bills on time, even if there were mistakes on them as these could be later corrected through representations. “But payment has to be on time because collection efficiency was around 65-70%, which means if a bill is prepared for Rs. 100 the department receives only Rs. 70,” he explained.
Asking the department to work on improving the billing efficiency, Kumar emphasised that unless it was done the consumer would not be able to pay bills on time and ultimately the department would incur losses. He also stressed improving the distribution system that could improve the department’s overall fiscal health. In his opening remarks, Vizo said Nagaland was the first State in Northeast to introduce POS mode for payment of electricity bills and that the platform would be convenient for the consumers. He said the department would also work on opening a similar facility in Dimapur district and subsequently expand the system across all the districts of the State.
AYO, ASU draw CM’s attention on bad roads D I M A P U R , N OV 1 6 (NPN): Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and Angami Students’ Union (ASU) drew the attention of the state chief minister T.R. Zeliang over the deplorable road condition in the State capital, when they called him at his residential office here on Thursday. The delegation led by AYO president Neinguvotuo Krose and ASU president Visako Rino also submitted a representation. A statement from CMO media cell said that the two bodies have urged the chief minister to take immediate action on war-footing as with the approaching International Hornbill festival and the festive seasons, state capital is likely to witness the flow of visitors both domestic and international. “It is very embarrassing that routes between Kohima to Kisama and Kohima to Zubza River do
not even deserve to be called roads and in addition to this, all roads leading to various colonies are self-explanatory by their condition,” the statement said. The delegation expressed hope that the government would mitigate the deplorable condition before the onset of summer sea-
son. Also, pointing out that natural disaster had caused massive destruction to roads both on State and National Highways, the two bodies urged the chief minister to initiate measure during this dry season. The chief minister informed the delegation on series of developmental ac-
tivities being implemented in the state. He also explained on the ongoing building of road connectivity, problems of traffic congestion, Kohima Smart City and preparation for the upcoming Hornbill Festival and sought constructive suggestions and cooperation from the delegation.
