Arunachal Pradesh to take up labourer wage hike in cabinet Ita nagar , M ar 6 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today assured the state Assembly to take up the issue of wage hike for labourers in the cabinet. Responding to a private member resolution moved by former chief minister Nabam Tuki, Khandu said that he had already received memorandum from labour unions and asked to the finance department to examine it. Despite poor resources, the state government has implemented the seventh Central Pay Commission recommendations with 22 per cent hike in salaries for
government employees, the chief minister said. Khandu also urged Tuki to withdraw the resolution, which he did. Tuki, however, said that the state government should hold talks with labour unions to listen to their pleas. Earlier, moving the resolution Tuki, the lone Congress member in the 60-member House, urged the government to revise the minimum wage of casual and contingency workers to Rs 600 per day keeping in view the rise in prices of essential commodities and high inflation. Participating in the dis-
cussion, Labour & Employment Minister Kumar Waii termed the resolution as ‘good’ and said that labour laws prescribed wage review in every five years but the state government reviewed it for 3-4 times in the past five years. “The wages provided to labourers in the state is higher than other North East states,” he said. Still, the cabinet would examine the issue of wage hike in consultation with experts, Waii said. Power Minister Tamiyo Taga said the resolution was ‘incomplete’ as it did not mention the category of labourers.

Students’ body raise issue of encroachment in KA

Diphu, Mar 6: United Karbi Students Association (UKSA), Diphu Monday raised the issue of land encroachment by ‘Bangladeshi citizens’ in inter-district boundary region. Addressing a press conference, Roton Terang, president of UKSA and Robiram Tokbi alleged that lots of ‘doubtful Bangladeshi citizens’ have settled in interdistrict boundary region such as Langkaijan of Karbi Anglong, Meghalaya-Karbi Anglong border, NagalandKarbi Anglong border etc. This has become a major demographic threat and identity of the scheduled hill tribes settled in Karbi Ang-
long, Assam, it added. Also in a statement issued at the press meet, Karbi Youth Development Organization (KYDO) has urged Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority to take immediate steps towards the problem in the border areas, which, it stated, has become land encroachment issue and a threat to people living close to the border. The organization asked the KAAC to visit those areas and observe how numerous Bangladeshis are capturing the land of Karbi Anglong gradually. The body has requested KAAC to place the issues before the government so as to embark on permanent solution to the problem.
Bandh hits life in Mnp town Imphal, Mar 6 (PTI): The Paite Association (YPA) has called a dawn to dusk bandh in Lamka town of Churachandpur district of Manipur affecting normal life there today, police said. The bandh which began at 5 AM was called to protest against the assault of two persons last night by unidentified assailants. Transport service and business activities were affected by the bandh though no untoward incident was reported, police said. Two persons, Thangsuanlal and Thangkhanlun Samte, were assaulted by some persons at around 8.30 PM last night. The two now being treated at Churachandpur District Hospital.

Guwahati, Mar 6 (PTI): Assam government today said it has instructed all superintendents of police to remain alert and tighten security at all sensitive places in view of the possibility of ISIS recruiting youths from the state. Replying to a discussion during the zero hour in the assembly, Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said all the SPs have been ordered to keep a strict vigil and maintain a close watch on doubtful people. “Moreover, instruction
has been given for tightening security at all sensitive places like railway stations, airports, historical places, temples, dargahs, refineries and shopping malls,” he added. “We have also ordered to strengthen security along Indo-Bangla border and secure the river ways,” he said. Besides, security and other agencies have been keeping a close watch on social media as these can be tools of influencing youths for joining the global terror outfit, he added.
Shillong, Mar 6: Meghalaya Speaker Abu Taher Mondal on Monday rejected the adjournment motion notice by opposition Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) for a debate on the rising crime against women and children in the assembly. HSPDP legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has sought to move an adjournment motion in the assembly in the wake of
the growing crime against women and children in the state. Pleading the Speaker to allow him to move the motion, Basaiawmoit said, “The image of the state has been tarnished due to the involvement of the political class (crimes against women and children) and even Raj Bhavan has turned into young ladies club as reported in the media.” “We cannot sweep under the carpet.
