Introspect over recent events: NCPF to Nagas
DIMAPUR: Nagaland College Principals Forum (NCPF) has expressed concern over the events that culminated in the tragic death of three youths and injury to several others and appealed to the Nagas to take this moment to stop, reflect and introspect. In a press release, NCPF president, Dr.Watijungshi, and general secretary, Dr. Arenla Aier, acknowledged the “painful upheavals” that Naga society witnessed during the last few months and said that “we feel we owe this to who have sacrificed their all.” The forum said the strands that connected the upheavals were many, adding that unless people recognised, acknowledged and deal with each interconnected strand, the pain and the sacrifices of the recent past could just fade away without lasting impact. “Can we as a people afford to do that? Can we afford to go back to our same old routine and habits of our daily lives as if nothing has happened?” the NCPF queried. It stated that the students that “we try to mould today”, needed to be moulded and guided in the right
direction with a sense of duty and values. In this regard, the forum stressed the need for the society, church, the government, the civil society and each individual to introspect. NCPF also called upon the academia to think critically and express their thoughts fearlessly, adding that “our society needs direction.” It maintained that their teaching and research in humanities and science must be made applicable and relevant. Further, the NCPF urged the church to make the Bible and the pulpit relevant. It also called upon the law makers to make fair laws based on truth and justice and act within the ambit of the law. The forum appealed to the judiciary to be blind while weighing the scales of justice. It called upon each citizen to stand by a principle of core values. And lastly, it urged all educational institutions including schools education, the church and all civil society organisations to collectively reenergise the campaign for clean elections. NCPF said this must become a part of life and not simply as a campaign during elections.
