DAPCC holds meeting in Mon

The AIDS Prevention and Control Committee meeting underway in Mon on March 29. DIMAPUR: District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) held a meeting on March 28 under the chairmanship of Thavaseelan K, deputy commissioner, at DC conference hall. According to district programme officer, Longyim Tzudir, in his welcome address, the deputy commissioner acknowledged the participation of government departments, civil societies, churches, students, NGOs, medical and paramedics in the committee

and called upon members to share their activities and views to effectively implement the HIV Prevention and Control Programme in the district. District programme officer, DAPCU Mon, Longyim Tzudir highlighted the overall activities carried out by DAPCU and partners towards HIVAIDS prevention and control in the district (NSACS support) during the period 2017-18 and shared key agendas for future actions.

During an interaction, the topic on the need of leadership training for block/village level on HIV and AIDS was discussed where support of key sectors such as DRDA, social welfare department, education department, district public relation officer, churches association and district legal services authority were targeted to collaborate for carrying out proposed activities successfully. In regard to Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD),

members acknowledged the Mon District Voluntary Blood Donors Association and Red Ribbon Club for their contributions and encouraged them to carry out more sensitization programmes among the targeted groups. Members from Outreach Gospel Ministry also shared about voluntary services rendered for drug addicts, including opium users, through organizing free detoxification camps. They also shared their plan to organize another free detoxification camp in May 2018 at Mon where they have requested district administration and partners to extend their support to make the programme a success. While giving a briefing about the treatment services for PLHIV, K, MO I/c ICTC & LAC+ DH Dr. Yingnei mentioned that due to poor financial conditions, many PLHIV could not avail facilities particularly outside Mon. Dr. Tiasunep, DTO, briefly shared about HIV-TB collaboration while Ingaupeule, OST counsellor DH talked about OST services and the need for more OST centres in Mon district.

KVK Mokokchung conducts trg-cumawareness prog DIMAPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung conducted a trainingcum-awareness and sensitization programme on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights” at community hall Chungtia village on March 28, sponsored by Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Authority, New Delhi. A press release by KVK Mokokchung stated that the keynote address was delivered by ACTO (genetics & plant breeding) Bendangjungla wherein she emphasized on the need for conservation of traditional seed crops and encouraged participants to take advantage of training programme. During the technical session, Dr. Toshimenla (genetics & plant breeding) explained the aims, objectives and characteristics of the Act along with the procedure for registering a crop variety under PPV & FRA. Altogether 112 participants attended the programme. It was chaired by Moainla Longkumer TO (KVK) while the invocation prayer was said by Rev. Laka Pastor CBC and vote of thanks was pronounced by Ruyosu Nakro ACTO (EXT).

4th quarter review meeting held at DHS Mokokchung

DIMAPUR: The fourth quarter review meeting of District Health Society (DHS), Mokokchung was held at IDSP Hall, IMDH Mokokchung on March 29, chaired by Dr. S. S. Akaba Longchar CMO Mokokchung. DDPODU elects president; convenes general meet cum picnic DIMAPUR: Dimapur District Pick-up van Owners and Drivers’ Union (DDPODU) has elected Akaho Awomi as president for the second term of three years (2018-2021). In a press release, DDPODU general secretary Tongpangkumba stated that as per the election commission of DDPODU, it has issued notice inviting nomination papers from intending candidates for the 3rd presidential election of DDPODU. However, no nomination papers were received except Akaho Awomi thereby he was declared as the uncontested winner and elected as president for the term of three years. Meanwhile, K. Sachii Colony, Dimapur, Youth Organisation members on March 24 seized DDPODU has convened general meeting cum picnic on April 6, 12 noon at Chathe river, 2½ mile. DIMAPUR: Vivekananda Welfare Foundation (VWF), a non-profit organisation, distributed 16 Corrugated Galvanised Iron (CGI) sheets each to 18 house holders of Y. Zhimo Colony, Signal Bosti Dimapur on March K Y M C

DIMAPUR: Saringyim veterinary dispensary under Mokokchung district was formally inaugurated by director Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Nagaland, Dr. I. P. Khala on March 24. A press release issued by VAS (Public Health), D r. A oy i m s e n Ja m i r stated that Dr. I.P. Khala thanked the Saringyim Village Council (SVC) for allocating land to set up the veterinary dispensary. He said that Saringyim, being a border village, had

strategic importance for the veterinary department in the control and surveillance of trans-border diseases, besides, the area itself is blessed with abundant natural resources and favourable climatic conditions. He encouraged people of the area to rear livestock and poultry on large scales. The inaugural prog ram was chaired by CVO Mokokchung, Dr. Salangtemjen, a short speech was delivered by the chairman of Tsurmen

village on behalf of the area people, and the vote of thanks was delivered by chairman Saringyim, A. Konang. The program was attended by officers from the directorate led by joint director, Dr. L. Temsu Jamir and officers from Mokokchung district. Earlier in the day, the director also launched Village Piggery Development under RKVY 201718 at Nokpu village where breeding boars, feeds and equipments were distributed among the villagers.
