Controversy of 3 language formula

Govt. dismisses fears of Hindi imposition

CHENNAI, JUN 1 (AGENCIES): Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s massive victory in Lok Sabha 2019 election, the Hindi debate has once again erupted in Tamil Nadu. The draft National Education Policy, proposed by Ministry of Human Resources and Development on Friday, suggests teaching of Hindi in non-Hindi speaking states. However, there is no clarity if the state language will be taught. The 500-page report states that non-Hindi speaking states would include the regional language, English and Hindi, while states, where Hindi is spoken, would have English and another modern Indian language in addition to Hindi. “Students will be required to attain proficiency in discussing their major in at least one Indian language through an appropriate written project or presentation in that language,” the policy says.

EC must clear doubts about EVMVVPAT: Ex-CEC B E N G A L U R U, J U N 1(PTI): Former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi Saturday said there was no possibility of manipulating EVM-VVPAT system, but the Election Commission should explain to the opposition and the people by clearing doubts about it. In the recent Lok Sabha polls, the opposition had alleged that EVM and VVPAT were being manipulated, but EC had refuted the allegations. Asked to comment about the allegations, Quraishi said, “There is no possibility of manipulation or tampering of EVM or VVPAT system. However, he said “EC should convince the Opposition and people that the system is foolproof.”

The committee handing over the draft policy to new HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.

This has sparked the Hindi language debate in Tamil Nadu once again. The School Education minister of Tamil Nadu took the lead in criticising the Hindi-related proposal in the new policy said that the new policy. “Tamil Nadu will follow only two-language policy. Only Tamil and English will bravely march in Tamil Nadu,” said KA Sengottaiyan, whose AIADMK party is an ally of the BJP which rules at the Centre. The Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu conquered with anti-Hindi sentiments of the government. AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran said, “Imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states will destroy

lingualism, problem-solving, ethics, social responsibility, and digital literacy. The policy also suggests changes in teaching and assessment to make the education system more stress-free. The existing NEP was framed in 1986 and revised in 1992. New education policy was part of the BJP’s manifesto ahead of 2014 general polls.

‘No language will be imposed’: Pokhriyal

Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal on Saturday denied that the government was planning to impose Hindi in schools in Tamil Nadu. This comes after politicians across the political spectrum in the state protested against the emphasis on Hindi in the draft education policy submitted to the Central government on Friday, NDTV reported. “Public feedback will be sought, it is a misunderstanding that it has become a policy,” the minister said, according to ANI. “No language will be imposed on any state.”

NSCN (I-M) extends tax holiday for Naga traders

Further, CNTC demanded to know from the responsible department on the mushrooming of pharmacies all over Dimapur town, which were owned by “persons of doubtful identities.” Urging the Health department to check the background of those persons, CNTC demanded that under whose name and what qualification were those pharmacist licences issued. “It is found that many persons running these pharmacies don’t have any medical experience or the requisite qualifications,” it stated. CNTC has, therefore, appealed to the authorities concern to immediately act on the spurt of pharmacies all over Dimapur as it deals with the lives of people. Meanwhile, CNTC has asked colony GBs, chairmen and councils to scrutinize their localities and not to issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) randomly to outsiders for business purposes in their respective localities. It also asked the landlords and house-owners not to randomly let out their premises for economic activities before proper verification.

It, however, cautioned that if anyone was found leasing the name of their business to non-Nagas, the trade license would be cancelled with immediate effect. Further, NSCN (I-M) announced that agriculture products within local would be tax free except for those exporting outside for commercial purpose. Kilo kilonser has also cautioned that no ministry/department/agency of GPRN would utilise the services of non-Nagas in collection of tax, adding that “defaulters shall be made strictly accountable.” In the event of any grievances on the given orders, one could contact ministry of kilo affairs at 6376428789.

DIMAPUR, JUN 1 (NPN): Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has expressed concern over what it described as “unlimited issuance of trade licenses and commercial vehicle permits to non-Nagas” and demanded immediate stop to such practice before Naga youth “run out of opportunities to earn their livelihood through decent ways and means.” CNTC through its media cell pointed out that many educated unemployed Naga youth were left without any business spaces or opportunities because of “this unlimited issuance of trade licenses and vehicle permits to non-Nagas.” It has asked the Dimapur Municipal Council and Transport department to issue trade license only after a thorough and a proper scrutiny of individuals. CNTC also suggested that only certain percentage should be allotted to non-Nagas. The council maintained that unlimited issuance of licenses was greatly affecting Naga economy and hampering many of Naga youth who were on the lookout of business pursuits or interests for their daily sustenance.

She applauded the ‘kaaryakartas’ as frontline soldiers whose resilience ensured 12.3 crore votes. She also thanked the voters, calling a vote for Congress as a vote to safeguard the Constitution. Sonia Gandhi will now pick the party’s floor leader in the Lok Sabha.

There has been speculation that Rahul Gandhi, who has decided to quit as Congress chief, may opt for this position. The other front runner for the post is three-time MP, Shashi Tharoor. Cong won’t stake claim for LoP: The Congress on Saturday said that it will not formally stake claim for the post of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha as it is two seats short of the required number of 54. The party also said that Rahul Gandhi will continue to be the Congress President. The Congress won just 52 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats in the recently concluded General Elections. However, Congress is currently short of three members that would allow it to qualify for the post of Leader of Opposition. The party was unable to make that cut even in the 2014 elections.

arson, assault and damaging government property. The government property in question was the Odisha legislative assembly building, which had been attached by a mob of 500, armed with tridents and lathis, led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Durga Vahini and the Bajrang Dal. The mob was demanding that disputed land in Ayodhya be handed over for

the construction of a Ram temple. More damningly, in January 1999, Saranagi was chief of the Bajrang Dal in Odisha when Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons, aged 11 and 7, were burnt alive by a group of men with links to the Bajrang Dal. Staines and his sons were sleeping in a station wagon in the village of Manoharpur in Keonjhar when the vehicle was set on fire. A 2003 report in Frontline says that a commission appointed by the central government had not even examined the role of the Bajrang Dal because it was not an illegal organisation, suggesting that legal organisations could not plan or carry out such heinous crimes. Sarangi, the report said, had denied the involvement of Bajrang Dal activists in the incident and had not even been cross-examined.

When Sarangi was questioned in the case, he denied any wrong doing. The prosecutor decided to not cross-question him. The Bajrang Dal, under Sarangi, and the RSS had been forcefully campaigning against Christian missionaries, alleging that tribals were being converted. In an interview to Rediff in February 1999, Sarangi denied that the Bajrang Dal was involved in the murder of Staines and his sons. He also condemned the killing. Sarangi then spoke with concern about the rising population of Christians in Odisha, blaming forceful conversions by Christian missionaries for the same. Upon being asked how he viewed the work done by Christian missionaries in Odisha, Sarangi said, “Barring a few exceptions, Christian missionaries, to generalise, are idiots.”
