NTC demands extension of ILP state-wide DIMAPUR, JUN 28 (NPN): Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), tribal hohos and civil society groups have called for making necessary amendments to the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873 so that Inner Line Permit (ILP) could be extended to the whole of Nagaland. A joint consultative meeting of these bodies held at Red Cross Conference Hall in Kohima on June 22 also demanded creation of a separate cell under the home department for monitoring strict enforcement of the BEFR, Foreigners’ Act and Indian Passport Act on a day-to-day basis while providing necessary training to enforcement agencies to equip them with relevant enforcement laws, standard operation procedure and guidelines. Meanwhile, expressing solidarity with the neighbouring States opposing the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the meeting urged the Nagaland government to oppose the Bill in the interest of the indigenous inhabitants of the (Full text on p-6) State.

I’m championing Naga integration cause: CM government and Naga nationalists– have clarified that it was not possible as of now “unless parties from other States agree”. He claimed that under his leadership as a chief minister, Nagaland Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution reaffirming the longstanding demand for integration of Naga contiguous areas. Rio asserted that though Nagas were living in different countries (India and Myanmar), they shared a strong emotional, cultural and social bond. Therefore, there could be no two settlements and Nagas of both the India and Myamar should support one another in reaching an honourable solution to the vexed Naga issue, he stressed. I M P H A L / KO H I M A , JUN 28 (IANS): Indian Army commandos have attacked a NSCN (K) camp in Myanmar, inflicting some casualties, an army source said on Thursday. “A team of 12 Para Commandos attacked a check post of the NSCN (K) situated in the vicinity of its Shwelo camp inside Myanmar on Wednesday. The gunfight continued for half hour,” an army official told IANS. The official claimed that NSCN (K) suffered at least four to five casualties, adding there was no casualty on the army side. The commandos were equipped with rocket launchers, mortars and automatic grenade launcher to carry out the strike, he said, adding the operation lasted for two hours after being started at 2 p.m. According to the official, the area of operation was 3 km beyond border pillar 151 on the IndiaMyanmar border across Nagaland’s Mon district.

The pursuit of the rebels was undertaken after three Assam Rifles personnel and three others were wounded in an ambush by NSCN (K) rebels in Mon on June 18. NSCN (K)’s deputy kilonser, ‘col.’ Isak Sumi, confirmed that Indian Army “in huge numbers” crossed Chenmoh village and arrived at the international boundary some kilometres away from the “Naga Army” (NSCN-K) forward post, but were detected. “On realisation that their presence has already been detected they resorted to blank firings randomly for several minutes to which the Naga Army responded and prevented any further advance. Casualties could not be ascertained,” Sumi wrote on his Facebook page. The NSCN-K faction abrogated a ceasefire signed in 2001 with the Indian government on March 27, 2015, just a month before the truce was up for renewal.

Rupee hits all-time low against dollar

MUMBAI, JUN 28 (PTI): Continuing its free fall for the fourth straight session, the Indian rupee today hit a record closing low of 68.79, showing a fall of 18 paise against the US dollar. Rupee’s previous alltime closing low was 68.73, touched on November 24, 2016. The beleaguered Indian rupee crashed to breach the key psychological level of 69 in the morning trade and slipped further to hit a life-time low of 69.10, a fall of 49 paise during the volatile session today. Mad rush for dollar was witnessed as importers see further erosion in the rupee value even as it was a field day for speculative traders before RBI came in strongly, pumping million into the market to salvage the rupee. The rupee swung between 69.10 and 68.72 most part of the day at interbank forex market after a gap-down opening at 68.89.

DIMAPUR, JUN 28 (NPN): In yet another attack against security forces, a jawan of the 7th Assam Rifles suffered minor splinter injury when an IED explosion took place in between Ngoromi under Kiphire district and Akhegwo under Meluri sub-division (Phek district). According to security sources, two improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a bridge in between Ngoromi and Akhegwo. It was reported that the incident took place when the Assam Rifles road opening party (ROP) team was on duty to clear the way for their convoy. The injured was rushed to Jorhat hospital and his condition was stated to be stable, sources said.

NSCN (K) claims responsibility

NSCN (K) deputy kilonser ‘col.’ (retd) Isak Sumi on Thursday said that the “NSCN Naga Army-led UNLFW demolition trainees” carried out the IED blasts as part of their “practical course”, near Akhegwo bordering Myanmar. Isak also refuted reports that the Indian Army commandos attacked its camp in Myanmar and inflicted causalities Isak claimed that the incident on June 27 incident was rather a “random shelling and blank firing from miles away” on the forward outpost at International Border Pillar No. 161. He said that the NSCN cadres also responded with few rounds.

DIMAPUR, JUN 28 (NPN): Against the backdrop of intensified inspections to prevent sale of imported fish varieties injected with formalin for preservation, health and municipal authorities in Dimapur and Chumumedima on Thursday seized a total of 913 kgs of fish varieties from Dimapur’s fish warehouses/depots and Chu-

mukedima area fish market. Food Safety Officer (FSO) Sendongkaba Jamir informed that 213 kgs of fish were seized from various fish warehouses/ depots of Dimapur while 700 kgs were voluntarily handed over by fish sellers in Chumumedima. Addressing the media at the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Sendongkaba Jamir informed that an inspection team with himself and veterinary doctors from DMC carried out an inspection drive at the fish auction centre in Sematilla area, New Market and Imli Ghas junction, close to DABA at Duncan Basti. He said the team began inspection from 8.30 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. in the presence of some NGOs and civil society group members. Out of the five places visited by the team in Dimapur, he said fish markets at Khermahal junction and Notun Basti were closed. Dr.Sendongkaba added that the samples were collected from warehouses and depots

where fish were stored to be sold in the coming days. In Chumukedima, FSO said fish sellers voluntarily collected 700 kgs of fish, which will be disposed off on Friday. The fishes were seized in the presence of EAC Chumukedima. Meanwhile, Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr K Vikato K Kinimi, told Reporters that fish traders were alerted by recent news reports about the ongoing crackdown and so the team could not seize more samples for testing. He said as the mobile testing laboratory was in the town, reports of the tests could be obtained on the same day. He, however, clarified that local prawns had no traces of formalin. Earlier, the inspection team started the drive around 8:30 am from the fish auction centre in Sematilla, from where 140 kg of five different breeds of pankaj, catla, rahu and pami were collected for tests, and the entire lot tested positive for for-

Correspondent KOHIMA, JUN 28 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio Thursday maintained that he had always been championing the issue of integration of Nagainhabited contiguous areas and has never stood against it. Rio said this while speaking to media persons at Hotel Vivor Thursday in his first reaction to the issue being raised by NPF over his statement made to a media in Delhi that Naga integration was not possible. Rio said he has been misquoted by the media since his statement was taken out of context. Speaking to a group of media persons at Hotel Vivor here on Thursday on the sidelines of a book release function, Rio pointed out that though integration was a genuine demand, the negotiating parties – the

IMPHAL, JUN 28: In yet another major haul, Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur on Thursday seized 7.52 kg of Heroin powder (brown sugar) worth around Rs. 8 crore from the possessions of two persons at Sapermaina Bazar along NH-2 in Kangpokpi. NAB SP W Basu told reporters that the two arrested persons were identified as Longjam Tomchou Meitei (49) and Yumnam Ibotomba Meitei (54). NAB team detected 7 kg and 520.5 gram of Heroin powder when the team frisked car in which they travelling. Rs 15,260 in cash and some incriminating documents were also seized, he said. SP said that the seized Heroin worth around Rs 8 lakh in the local market, but would be Rs.8 crore in the international market. “During our preliminary investigation, arrested duo revealed they were trying to smuggle the contraband outside the state. We have initiated an investigation to know its origin after registering a case,” the SP said. SP claimed that the seizure was one of the major hauls of contraband items made by the NAB since it had intensified its drive against drug and illicit trafficking in the state.

S R I NA G A R , J U N 2 8 (IANS): Jammu & Kashmir Police said on Thursday that the conspiracy to kill noted Kashmiri journalist Shujaat Bukhari was hatched in Pakistan and that the Lashkar-eTaiba (LeT) carried out the crime. IGP, S.P. Pani told the media: “This terror crime was done by LeT and the conspiracy was hatched in Pakistan.” Giving details, the police chief of the Kashmir Valley said: “Investigation has established that there was a campaign in certain social media platform against Shujaat Bukhari spreading

hate campaign, malicious and intimidating... With the cooperation of service providers, tangible evidence has been collected that the individual behind the hate campaign belongs to LeT terrorist organization and all the content on social media was posted from Pakistan.” Pani said the person associated with publishing malicious articles against Bukhari was a Sheikh Sajad Gul alias Ahmad Khalid of Srinagar who is associated with the LeT and presently in Pakistan. Police had issued pictures of three bike-borne individuals fleeing from the

crime scene after gunning down Bukhari, editor of “Rising Kashmir” English daily, on June 14. The identity of the accused was given as Muzaffar Ahmad alias Talha of Qazigund, who has been active since January 2018, Naveed Jatt alias Hanzullah of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, who had escaped from judicial custody, and Azad Ahmad Malik alias Dada of Bijbehara, who has been active since December 2016. Bukhari was killed along with two of his security guards in Press Enclave area of Srinagar city.

DIMAPUR, JUN 28 (NPN): Reacting to the spate of condemnations against the recent ambush on a party of the Assam Rifles in Aboi by the public of the area including state politicians and organisations, NSCN (K) through its deputy kilonser ‘col. (retd)’ Isak Sumi has asked “section of Nagas shedding crocodile tears” and blaming the group for the recent armed violence to understand that history cannot be twisted for their “vested convenience.” NSCN(K) stated that if at all they were “Nagas to the core” and truly yearned for peace then they should have the courage to ask the government of India to recall “ military hordes from Nagaland and immediately stop hunting and terrorising the Nagas in our own land.” It also said citizens of Mon presently undergoing “terror and violence” must

ask the “Indian Forces to vacate the civilian areas and villages vicinities besides trespassing international boundary every time to provoke and encounter the Naga Army” as a result of which series of attacks and counter attacks had been occurring. NSCN (K) affirmed that it would not rest but continue to resist and repulse the “foreign invaders”. Further, NSCN (K) warned that it would also not tolerate “anti-national Nagas deliberately misinterpreting or misrepresenting the scenario merely to please their Indian masters”. Rather than joining hands to “free our country and people from nearly a century of suppression”, NSCN (K) said choosing to censure the sacrifices of Naga patriots was “extremely repugnant” and would go down in the annals of the Naga struggle as “traitors.”

NSCN (I-M) pays tribute to late Isak Swu DIMAPUR, JUN 28 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) Thursday paid rich tribute to late Yaruiwo Isak Chishi Swu on his second death anniversary. Late Isak Chishi Swu passed away in New Delhi on June 28, 2016 after a prolonged illness. In a press release, MIP said as a sign of Nagas’ highest respect, the “Naga national flag” was flown at half mast today while “government offices” remain closed. MIP said late Swu, who fought for the rights of the Nagas for more than 58 years, was a man who feared the Lord and who stood his ground to the last. “He was truly a champion of peace, infusing in us a strong sense of oneness through eternal Love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, he propagated unity in Naga solidarity with purpose,” it added. (Full text on p-6)

ILP regulation provided safeguard to Nagas. Rio however reiterated that if any part of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 for Assam went against the interest of Nagas, then his government would oppose it. On the growing incidences of crime against women committed by “nonlocals”, Rio said the government was monitoring the situation and supported strengthening of the ILP. Referring to the petition of NPF to Election Commission of India seeking withdrawal of recognition to NDPP, Rio described it as “politically motivated” since the petition was filed after all the processes were over and his party had taken over the reins of government. He asserted that NDPP was working on the matter and exuded confidence that the verdict would deliver justice against the petition. On the 100-day commitment of his government to bring changes, Rio said the recently parliamentary by-poll had created hurdles. He, however, claimed that his government was compiling reports, adding that the achievements as well projects in pipeline would soon be made public.

Retail store Big Bazaar opening on June 30 DIMAPUR, JUN 28(NPN): Dimapur will soon be having one of the country’s popular multiband store- Big Bazaar- a retail store that operates as a chain of hypermarkets. Future Group’s hypermarket chain Big Bazaar will be launched at a gala opening by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio at Nagi House, Circular Road, Dimapur near Clock Tower Junction on June 30. It may be pointed out that Future Group has set a target to launch around 100 stores across the country under its expansion plan. Currently, there are four Big Bazaar outlets in the Northeast, one each in Guwahati, Jorhat, Agartala and Silchar.

ANATG indefinite hunger strike begins

DIMAPUR, JUN 28 (NPN): All Nagaland Ad hoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG) 2015 batch Thursday said the members have collectively resolved to undertake indefinite hunger strike starting from June 29, 2018 till the government fulfilled their sole demand –– regularisation of their service. In a representation addressed to the principal director school education, ANATG 2015 batch president, Ruguotsolie, and convenor, Temsuchiba Aier, the decision was arrived at after they examined negative responses from department/ government pertaining to their demands in the resolution and for non-compliance to the assurances.
