NEW DELHI, JUL 7 (AGENCIES): With an aim for an overall development of the landlocked Northeast, Government of India (GoI) has chalked out strategy to bolster the logistic movements in and across the region. Niti Aayog has drawn a master plan to enhance the movement of logistics in and across the Northeast region which also holds the key for trading with our eastern neighbors. Disclosing this to Northeast Now, Anil Srivastava, Adviser (transport), Niti Aayog said that the Centre has taken up multiple initiatives for increasing connectivity of the Northeast regions. Multiple infrastructure projects for developing roads and railways into the Northeast region are currently in place. “Special schemes and concepts such as HIRA (Highways, Inland Waterways, Railways and Airways) by NITI Aayog and DoNER and UDAN under MoCA are novel initiatives taken up by the government. Our policies are inclusive and take into consideration the importance of pro-

viding seamless connectivity to the Northeastern states. We also plan to enhance the movement of logistics in and across the Northeast region which also holds the key for trading with our eastern neighbors,” Srivastava said. Srivstava said that Niti Aayog has also moots the idea of intelligent system. ITS is a revolutionary concept that has been doing rounds recently. It looks at solving multiple aspects of mobility plaguing our current transportation systems. It aims at modernizing the way people, goods move and the infrastructure built around it. “Use of innovative measures and providing quick, efficient and data backed solutions for issues like payment systems, reducing congestion, vehicle safety & control, emergency responses, parking management etc. ITS serves as an important component of urban planning and specifically, the Smart Cities mission. We wish to establish a state of art mobility paradigm in the country,” the Niti Adviser said.

The adviser also talked about the employability issue. “India is among the fastest growing economy in the world and Indians are proving their mettle in all fields. NNPGs refute report on Naga demands; clarifies stand

DIMAPUR, JUL 7 (NPN): All open butcher shops (roadside butcher sheds) along the National Highway-29 stretch from Purana Bazaar to Chumukedima in Dimapur have been directed to close down and shift their businesses to a well maintained and hygiene enclosure/chamber inside a proper building/house or market. In a press release, EAC Chumukedima, Thejavizo Nakhro, stated that the decision to close down those open butcher shops was taken at a joint meeting of civil administration Chumukedima, all village council chairmen and head GBs along the NH-29 stretch from Purana Bazaar to Chumukedima on June 26, 2018. Further, all business establishments engaged in selling beef, button, fish, pork, chicken etc on the roadside open butcher sheds have informed to make necessary arrangement of shifting within 15 days. Any trader selling fresh meat items along the highway stretch in contravention to the joint meeting resolution would be liable to be penalized as provided by law, EAC said.

DIMAPUR, JUL 7 (NPN): Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) through its media cell has taken strong exception of the report published by The Week, a Kerala-based news magazine, on July 6, 2018 and published in sections of the local daily on July 7, 2018 under the headline “GoI Talks Tough on Naga Demands”. According to the media cell, Alezo Venuh, envoy to collective leadership, GPRN/NSCN, and coordinator in the ongoing political dialogue between NNPGs and the government of India, had, at no point in time, gave any interview to print or electronic media on the status of “Indo-Naga” political negotiations. “There is certainly no truth in the statement attributed to Mr. Alezo Venuh,” media cell said. Working Committee said it therefore expected that the author of the article “withdraw a part of the baseless and imaginary statement within one week.” The committee cautioned that a legal course of action would be pursued should the author fail to tender “unconditional apology for misleading the Naga people through unethical journalism.” Meanwhile, WC also sought to lay out a few facts that required prompt clarification. Firstly, it said the NNPGs comprised of six Naga

National Political Groups and not a decreased number. Secondly, WC said integration of Naga areas in India and in Burma (Myanmar) was a legitimate aspiration of the Naga people. However, it said “contemporary political reality cannot be ignored”, adding that the issue would, therefore, be pursued democratically through people to people’s dialogue. Thirdly, WC pointed out that on November 17, 2017, the NNPGs and the government of India signed an Agreement in the manner of a preamble for further political negotiations, an agreed position upon which the negotiation would be based. “Which is why it is erroneous to say NNPGs joined the peace talks. The political dialogue is between two entities i.e. NNPGs and GoI, is a fresh initiative,” WC said. Fourthly, WC said the talks between the government of India and NNPGs were being held “systematically in a free, open and cordial atmosphere.” Stating that co-existence entailed recognising perennial rights of the Nagas over specific matters, the WC said there was no gag order on the NNPGs. “Matters requiring immediate deliberations and consultations with our people back home are being done unconditionally. In the Naga context, lack of transparency is suicidal,” WC asserted.

Myanmar installs border pillar inside Mnp NEET, JEE to be conducted

DIMAPUR, JUL 7 (NPN): It appears that contractors of the ongoing four-lane road work have taken monsoon leave as the work progress was tardy even as the road condition worsens with mudslides and mud-covered potholes. Driving along the NH-29 is a hazardous experience both for the driver, passengers and the vehicle. The road project covering a length of 42.48 km was approved at a cumulative cost of Rs 1,199.11 crore. As reported earlier, the 74 Kms distance from Dimapur to Kohima that used to take around 2½ hours presently takes anywhere between 3 to 4 hours if there is no traffic, but 5 hours onwards depending on various factors. Expansion of the Guwahati-Shillong (GS) road was completed before the deadline in 2016 mainly since the contractor(s) worked almost non-stop from day to past midnight.

IMPHAL, JUL 7 (PTI): Prohibitory orders were imposed on Saturday in some areas in Moreh sub-division after unrest over the alleged shifting of an India-Myanmar border pillar well into the Indian territory. Tengnoupal District Magistrate A Tombikanta ordered imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC during the night hours for the next six months in some parts of the sub-

division. The orders prohibit assembly of five or more people from 7 pm to 4 am and carrying any weapon. It was imposed after rising tension in the area over “shifting” of border pillar No 81 three kilometres inside the Indian territory, officials said. The move comes a day after a visit by the Manipur Revenue Minister Karam Shyam to the area where he said a high power committee on border pillars would

submit a detailed report to the government on the contested pillar. The border pillar was erected in 1969-70, the minister had said. Imphal Correspondent adds: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh Saturday said the alleged re-location of border pillars at the Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border was sensitive issue and no decision can be taken hastily by the state government. Singh said that the issue should be sorted out by discussing it at a proper forum as it was a matter involving two countries. Singh, however, reiterated his government would not allow losing a needleprick’s land of Manipur because of border demarcation. “No Manipuri would want to lose any piece of land but no decision can be taken hastily by the state government as it is a very sensitive issue,” Singh said.

WhatsApp: New tool to address fake news, spam Yashwant Sinha slams son for NEW DELHI, JUL 7 (AGENCIES): After being reprimanded by the Indian government over spread of misinformation, Facebookowned WhatsApp has started testing tools to resolve the problem on its platform that has more than 200 million users in the country. The company has introduced a Suspicious Link Detection feature that will help users identify suspicious links (both sent and received). The aap essentially “analyses” the link in order to detect whether it is redirecting to a “fake or alternative website”, reported WABetainfo, a website that tracks updates on WhatsApp. If WhatsApp finds the link to be malicious, it adds a label called “suspicious link”. The link will come with a warning that reads, “This link contains usual characters. It may be trying to appear as another site.” The website further high-

lights that the analysis of link happens “locally” which means the app doesn’t transmit any data to WhatsApp servers, assuring users that the company isn’t compromising on the encryption for messages. The feature appears to be in the development stage and is part of 2.18.204 beta version on Google Play Store. WhatsApp is expected to roll out the feature after more polishing and trying it out with beta testers. Apart from misinformation, the new WhatsApp tool is ex-

pected to help users identify spams and fraud links. The company recently added a label for forwarded messages, making it easier to identify the mass broadcasted links. The latest feature comes shortly after WhatsApp received flak from government of India for not doing enough to control the spread of rumours. “While the law and order machinery is taking steps to apprehend culprits, the abuse of platform like WhatsApp for repeated circulation of such provocative content

are equally a matter of deep concern,” the ministry of electronics and information technology had said. WhatsApp also welcomed proposals from any social science or related discipline that foster insights into the impact of technology on contemporary society in this problem space.” “The WhatsApp Research Awards will provide funding for independent research proposals designed to be shared with WhatsApp, Facebook, and wider scholarly and policy communities. These are unrestricted monetary awards that offer investigators freedom to deepen and extend their existing research portfolio. Applications are welcome from individuals with established experience studying online interaction and ITs, as well as persons seeking to expand their existing research into these areas,” it said in a statement.
