BJP Wokha condemns Patton’s speech DIMAPUR: BJP Wokha has condemned the speech of Nagaland Home minister Y. Patton that was reportedly delivered during the NPF party meeting at Bhandari Town on January 26. A condemnation note signed by BJP Wokha president L Meribemo K i n g h e n , B J P Wo k h a general secretary (Adm) Z Mhomo Humtsoe, BJMM Wokha president Nzand Kikon and BJYM Wokha president N Amos Humtsoe termed Patton’s speech, “BJP is surviving by the little air supply by the NPF” as “hate speech” adding that the party has been maintaining the principle of the DAN alliance with NPF. “The BJP party being a disciplined national political party sticks to its principle and can survive whatsoever,” the signatories asserted. In this regard, the party has urged the home minister “who holds a responsible status” to desist from making irrelevant statements that creates division in the alliance.

Ko h i m a , Ja n 2 9 (NPN):Nagaland, along with other states in India on Sunday has launched first round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) for the year 2017 by administering the first two drops of polio to eligible children from 0-5 years throughout the state. In Kohima, Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) was launched by principal director health and family welfare Nagaland Dr. L. Watikala by administering the first two polio drops to a child at Naga Hospital Kohima on Sunday. In a brief address, State programme officer (UIP) Dimapur (rural) Dr. Visasieii Kire said India is free from polio since 2011 and that the disease has been eradicated. However, she cautioned that India remains at high risk till the whole world is free of wild polio virus. She said department o f h e a l t h a n d f a m i ly welfare was all geared up to administer polio drops to over 2.3 lakh eligible children from 0-5 years throughout the state. Dr. Visasieii said that 2296 polio booths across the state would be manned by 9184 health personnel and 459 supervisors along
with vaccines and other logistics. The officials from H&FW, UNICEF, NHAK and other officers also administered the polio drops to the children. The officials informed that health workers throughout the state would conduct house to house administering polio to the child from 0-5 years the remaining two days January 30 and 31. The department sought the cooperation of all the sections of people, agencies, organizations, churches and community leaders to ensure that all eligible children receive the “the two drops of life” (polio drops). DIMAPUR: Kiphire held its District Task Force (DTF) on January 27, at DC Office Kiphire to ensure successful implementation of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI), National Deworming Day (NDD) and Mission Indradhanush (MI) Phase-4 in Kiphire district. The meeting was chaired by DC Sedevikho Khro and attended by CMO Dr. Tsenthungo Patton, D P O, RC H - U I P, D r. Mission Indradhanush (MI) Phase-4 would also be launched on February 7 to strengthen routine immunization.This immunization drive would be carried out for seven consecutive days in a month for four successive months – February to May. The first round which would be conducted from February 7-13 would cover 19 session sites district which are hard to reach, places where there are no health centres and areas where migratory population is present. The target beneficiaries are 0-2 years, 5 years and pregnant mothers. MCD: MCD members on Sunday administered polio vaccine to the children in New Market, Dimapur as part of the first phase of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization 2017. 173 BN CRPF: Pulse Polio immunization cum free medical camp was organized by 173 Bn CRPF on January 29 at Govt. High School Diphupar Dimapur. The camp was organized by 173 BN, commandant Joseph Keishing. Around 342 children of below 05 years were given polio drops. Zeliang on January 24 to apprise him of the progress of UNESCO initiatives being undertaken in Nagaland. The officials who were on four-day visit to Nagaland, from January 2225 also requested the support of the State Government towards UNESCO. The meeting was also attended by minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Nicky Kire and NLA speaker Chotisuh Sazo, besides other senior officers
of Forest Department and the CMO. It may be mentioned that pre-feasibility studies had been undertaken in 2016 for designating Dzukou Valley and Doyang Valley as UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. The Feasibility report submitted to UNESCO also included Saramati Range, to be taken up at a later stage. These areas h av e b e e n i d e n t i f i e d taking into consideration the uniqueness, the rich biodiversity and also the initiatives shown by the community in conserving biodiversity, which could be a model for the rest of India and the world. Environment, Forest and Climate Change is taking this initiative in collaboration with UNESCO, recognising the role of the communities in conserving biodiversity in Nagaland, bearing in mind that many such areas in Nagaland are owned by the communities. T h e n ex t s t a ge i s to prepare a dossier with concrete plans in collaboration with Government of Nagaland, G ove r n m e n t o f I n d i a and UNESCO. Besides bringing recognition and strengthening the conser vation effor ts in Nagaland, the objective is to also link conservation with sustainable development of the local communities. K
