Narendra Modi
NEW DELHI, DEC 15 (AGENCIES): Amid massive protests in Assam and West Bengal over the new Citizenship Act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday defended the new law stressing it allows persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and helps them live a dignified life by becoming an Indian citizen. Justifying his government’s decision to bring in the Citizenship Law, Modi said his government was committed to provide respect to those people who have faced troubles in the neighbouring countries because of their religious beliefs. Addressing an election rally in Jharkhand’s Dumka, Modi said that Parliament should be praised for
passing the bill. “Modi ne, parliament ne, nagrikta ka kanoon bana ke desh ko bacha liya hai (Modi and Parliament saved the nation by making this law),” the PM said. Blaming the Congress and its allies for the violence in Assam and other parts of the country, the prime minister said that the Congress and some other parties are creating ruckus because they failed to defeat the BJP in Parliament. He added that the people who are indulged in violent activities can be identified by their clothes itself. “Congress and their allies are creating a ruckus. They are doing arson because they did not get their way. Those who are creating violence can be identified by their clothes itself,” said the Prime Minister. “Congress and their allies are giving silent support to incidents of violence over Citizenship Act. These scenes are strengthening country’s confidence that Modi, Parliament, & the government have saved the country by bringing the Act,” remarked the prime minister.
NEW DELHI/GUWAHATI, DEC 15 (PTI/AGENCIES): Violent protests erupted near Jamai Millia Islamia in Delhi and at the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh, while West Bengal plunged deeper into chaos on Sunday during the stir over the new citizenship law with incidents of arson and loot reported from the state and the northeast, acts which Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged were being instigated by the “Congress and its friends”. Suspension of internet services across Assam was extended for 48 hours till December 16 though curfew
was relaxed in Dibrugarh and Guwahati and also parts of Meghalaya following improvement in the situation. In Assam peaceful protests were held amid calls by the Asom Gana Parishad for resignation of its ministers. WSH also said that if any such bandh, like that of NSF’s December 14 bandh, was imposed without consulting the hoho, the WSH would be “compelled to confront it with its youths and volunteers which may turn ugly and will not be held responsible for any consequences.” “Whatever the issue maybe, disregarding one’s own tribe position and resolution is highly condemnable and an insult which is being viewed seriously,” it added. Further, WSH said any Sumi leader holding whatsoever post in whatever Naga platform, “will be summoned before the hoho and all its frontal organisations for an explanation for bypassing his or her own tribe’s stand and have to bear the responsibility.”
interest litigation (PIL) is being prepared by a group of citizens, including lawyers from Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur, to be filed jointly in the Supreme Court with a plea to strike off the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The individuals will also seek the striking off of the Act, which was approved by the President Ram Nath Kovind recently. “The act is against the spirit of the Constitution, and the PIL would be filed under Article 32 of the Constitution as the act violates Article 14, 15 and 21 of the Constitution,” said practicing lawyer, Peter A Dohkrud during a press here Saturday. The team expressed hope and faith in the Supreme Court, the “guardian of our Constitution”. Seeking public supports and prayers, Dohkrud

PIL, which will have many names as petitioners. “We should continue opposing the citizenship amendment act,” Dohkrud said while slamming political leaders from the Northeast who supported the CAB in Parliament and are now trying to pacify the people by meeting Union home minister, Amit Shah in Delhi asking the Centre to implement the Inner line permit. “This is not because they want to give us the ILP, but because their chair isn’t firm anymore. After supporting the CAB now you ask for ILP. This is like after selling the whole building you want to rent a room in that building,” he said. Dohkrud, however, extended his support to the introduction of ILP in the region. He said that illegal

Asked about the effective of ILP in states like Mizoram and Nagaland, a youth from Manipur said that there have been regular checkings on visitors as in the case of Mizoram, but still outsiders found their way into the state especially when events are held there. On his home state Manipur that came under the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873 or ILP, he said with uncertainty, “How strong and effective ILP will be in Manipur, we will see when it is implemented.” Meanwhile, the concerned citizens condemned
derogatory remark asking “those who do not want divisive democracy to go to North Korea,” and demanded his resignation from the post. “By his statement, he insults not only the people of Meghalaya, but the entire brothers and sisters and the Northeast,” the statement. Stating that the governor should know his position, the concerned citizens said that the governor should resign and apologise for asking those “who oppose the CAB to go to North Korea.” “The duty of the governor is to protect the Constitution not to protect government policy. It’s inappropriate for the governor to speak such language. Therefore it’s better for him to resign and join politics not to hold the post of governor,” the group said.
DIMAPUR, DEC 15 (NPN): Public Service Aspirants of Nagaland (PSAN) expressed dismay that till date the state government has requisitioned only 45 posts for various departments through NPSC for 2019-20 examination. In a press note, PSAN said it was alarmed to note that over ten thousand aspirants would be forced to compete for just 45 posts. In this regard, PSAN has reminded all departments to immediately requisition all vacant posts through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC). Despite repeated pleas, PSAN alleged that random illegal backdoor appointments have been taking place in most of the departments. NPSC being the highest recruiting body of the state, PSAN said the departments should not make a mockery out of it by not requisitioning available vacancies. Meanwhile, PSAN has extended physical and moral support to the proposed sit-in protest by CTAN and CEAN on December 16, 2019 against illegal appointments made in NPWD. PSAN demanded that the NPWD cancel all illegal appointments and advertise the said posts for free, fair and open recruitment. Further, PSAN has called upon civil service aspirants to extend physical support to CTAN and CEAN during the protest.
