on Jovi were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night (April 15) at a ceremony in Cleveland. Radio host Howard Stern inducted the band into the annals of rock history while each member of the band shared lengthy speeches about their 35 year long history, reports Rolling Stone. Bon Jovi reunited with their original line up at the event. Bassist Alec John Such left the band in 1993, while guitarist Richie Sambora departed in 2013. But the pair rejoined former bandmates Jon Bon Jovi, drummer Tico Torres and keyboardist David Bryan on stage once more. Jon Bon Jovi began: “I’ve been writing this speech since I

first strummed the broom and sang at the top of the stairs of my childhood home. Some days I write the thank you speech, other days, I write the fuck-you speech.” “Whoever played in a garage dreams of being in a big rock band and I was no different. I began in my buddy’s basement and in the back yard. We played in the local talent show, came in second place, worked up to block dances and then the clubs where we got a glimpse of what we thought was the big time.” After a full chronology of the history of the band, JBJ concluded: “‘it’s about time’, because time is the most precious commodity we have. I thank my lucky stars for the time that I have

to spend with each one of you, Alec, Richie, Hugh, Tico, David, to you, to us, to all of you, tonight the band that agreed to do me a favour stands before you so I can say thank you for making this dream live on.” I n D e c e m b e r, Jo n Bon Jovi responded to the news of their induction and said the band were: “really pleased, obviously, relieved, humbled.” The likes of Radiohead, Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, MC5, LL Cool J and Judas Priest were overlooked by the Hall of Fame this year. Asked about this, Bon Jovi replied: “I feel like everybody who was nominated should get in.” (NME)

d Sheeran has slammed a story reported by the Sun that suggested he was building railings around his house to keep out people experiencing homelessness. The original report claimed that the singersongwriter was planning to build a five-foot set of railings in front of London house to ‘keep out the homeless’. Sheeran has since responded to the story on Instagram referencing his past work with the charities Shelter and Crisis – both of which work to end homelessness. “Dear Natalie Edwards from the Sun newspaper. Your story is bollocks, I have done lots of work in the past for crisis and shelter and would never build railings outside my home for that reason.” Sheeran wrote. “The reason was to keep the paps that you employ from being on my doorstep. Have a good day”. However, his building agent Paul Smith did say in the planning application that one of the reasons for installing the privacy measures was “preventing opportunities for rough sleeping”. But Sheeran is having a hard time getting permission from the local council

as neighbours had previously objected to the three sets of vertical fencing on the grounds that they were “detrimental to the conservation area”. Meanwhile, Sheeran was recently mistaken for Prince Harry on a commemorative plate. The souvenir plate is on sale on the online marketplace Etsy, and was spotted by former royal chef Darren McGrady. “Loving all the #PrinceHarry and #MeghanMarkle memorabilia,” he tweeted. “Just think some companies should do a little more research first.” This isn’t Ed Sheeran’s first run-in with royalty. Back in 2016, the musician claimed that Princess Beatrice cut him across the face when she was pretending to knight James Blunt during a party at the Royal Lodge in Windsor. There have also been reports that Sheeran is performing at the Royal Wedding. (NME)

ctor Robert Downey Jr, best known for playing superhero Iron Man since 2008, says the creative team of Marvel Studios doesn’t believe in repeating what has worked well in the past movies. “I read in some magazine that the number one fan-voted moment was the airport fight in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ because there are so many superheroes at once. And now that the universe has expanded even more... “But one thing that the creatives (of Marvel Studios) don’t want to do is do a bigger repeat of something that’s already worked well,” Downey Jr told select media, including IANS, here on Sunday. Without giving away much about the forthcoming Marvel movie “Avengers: Infinity War”, the actor, who is hailed as the “patriarch” by his co-stars like Chris Evans, said: “The challenge this time was how to top or better or expand something without repeating something that has been executed well before. It’s kind of like the anti-process. “Usually, if some-

thing works, you keep doing that.” The star, who matched his red and black eyewear with his red, black and white outfit, admitted: “We might be making the movies, but we also are fans and critics of our own work. We try to make it better. But I think this time, we might have nailed it.” “Avengers: Infinity War”, co-directed by the Russo brothers -- Anthony and Joe -- is logistically, the “most complicated movie” put together in history. “We shut down Hollywood for a year because we had every actor working in the business scheduled somewhere in the movie,” said Joe. The forthcoming movie will see superheroes like Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, StarLord and Nebula up against

the supervillain Thanos. But going by the film’s trailers and posters, one character that is missing is Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner. Joe said: “We did not forget the twice-nominated Renner - and those are Oscar nominations. We have a really interesting story cooked up for Hawkeye, so I would say, patience is a virtue.” Recalling the time when British actor Benedict Cumberbatch joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Dr. Stephen Strange in the 2016 film “Doctor Strange”, he said: “It feels a little intimidating, to be frank. When you first step on to a set with a roster of iconic characters as well as iconic actors and then you go about doing your day’s work and forget about the numbers of 18 plus films and 14 plus billion dollars.” Talking about her “weird, creepy, fun character” Nebula and her association with MCU since “Guardians of the Galaxy”, actress Karen Gillan said: “I’m honoured. It’s very exciting to get to be in more than one Marvel movie. I love the character that initially was a villain. (IANS)

eyonce brought band mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams on stage during her headline set at the festival in California last night. The trio began their surprise performance with their 2004 hit Lose My Breath, followed by Say My Name and Soldier. It’s the first time they have appeared together since the Stellar Gospel Music Awards in 2015. The 36-year-old singer’s show took a military theme, beginning with a rendition of her 2003 hit Crazy In Love played by a marching band. Dancers wore black berets and yellow hoodies decorated with militarystyle sashes, and leotards with epaulettes. The nearly two-hour set included quotes from civil rights activist Malcolm X and feminist author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, as well as samples of Nina Simone. It also featured a rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing, a song often referred to as the “Black American National Anthem”. Beyonce’s set closed the second day of the three-day festival in Indio, California, which will end tonight with Eminem. K Y M C

The Texan singer had been due to play Coachella last year, but was forced to pull out after becoming pregnant with twins Rumi and Sir. Rumours that Destiny’s Child would reform for this year’s festival have been circulating for months. But band member Kelly Rowland had dismissed them, telling People magazine in December: “I have no idea about any of that.” Destiny’s Child are one of the most successful female groups of all time. They had 14 UK Top 40 songs, and two UK Number 1s. On Saturday night the trio rose to the stage on a platform, standing back to back in a Charlie’s Angelsstyle formation, a nod to their 2001 hit Independent Women Pt. 1, which appeared on the film’s soundtrack. Their jewel-encrusted camouflage outfits echoed those worn in the iconic video for their song Survivor. They performed energetic dance routines with lunges, high kicks and salutes, walking among the festival crowd on a raised walkway. (BBC)
