KARUAH local Brooke Aldis, will join thousands of students starting university this week with formal lectures and tutorials commencing at Universities across the state. Enrolled in a Bachelor of Accounting at the University of New England, Brooke is hoping her three year degree will lead to an internship in accountancy. Brooke, who recently moved into student accommodation on campus at Armidale, is looking forward to the new experiences university will bring. “I’m most looking forward to being independent, meeting new people and starting the next step in my life,” she said. “I’m also a little worried about keeping up with the workload and being away from home.” To help transition to University, Brooke attended Orientation Week activities which included introductory lectures, information sessions and social events. Brooke said her interest in accounting came from studying finance in the Business Studies course at school. For parent’s Julie and Andrew, things will be a little quieter at home with Brooke’s older sister Sarah also leaving this week to continue her studies. Sarah will be commencing her second year at Charles

In 1926 a worship service was distributed to many countries, with an enthusiastic response and a call for a World Day of Prayer. It is observed in Christian churches on the first Friday of
March with the liturgy prepared by a different country each year. This enables people throughout the world to learn a little about that country, its culture, joys and concerns. Initially this was a Women’s Day of Prayer, but for some
years now has included men and women. In Tea Gardens this year you are invited to share at 1.30 in the Uniting Church, Myall Street on Friday 4 March for a Worship Service followed by afternoon tea.

q SIGN UP: Parents, Ms Giulia Fortunaso from Tea Gardens and Mrs Karen Sullivan from Bulahdelah sign up for Gonski with the assistance of NSW Teachers Federation Councillor, Mrs Vanessa Shultz.
Signing up for I give a Gonski FROM Page 1 to offer learning programs that meet the needs of every individual student. “Schools can use the funding to help disadvantaged and at risk
students close the educational gap,” she said. “Without the funding, schools may not be able to fully support their students placing them at risk of falling behind.” Tea Gardens Public School
Principal Mr Mark Clemson, said the funding made available through Resource Allocation Model as part of the Local Schools Local Decisions initiative, has had significant benefits to the students of the school.
“We continue to train teachers in the very successful Language, Learning and Literacy program which is achieving outstanding results for our students,” he said. “In 2016, we have created a teaching and learning curriculum based position which is supporting the improvement in teacher capacity across Kindergarten to Year 6.” Bulahdelah Central School Principal Mr Don Hudson, agrees the funding has significantly benefited the students of his school. “We’ve employed additional Learning Support Officers to support students with learning difficulties, implemented QUICKSMART numeracy programs and employed an Instructional leader to work with staff to build skills and capacity in teaching literacy and numeracy to our students,” he said. “We’ve also employed additional SAS staff for school attendance programs and established a tutorial centre to assist students with assessment work.” To ensure these programs continue, Mrs Shultz said the Teacher’s Federation encourages everyone to sign-up on the “I Give a Gonski” website. “The more sign-ups there are, the more pressure we can put on the government to ensure they carry out their funding promise,” she said.

When is smacking your child assault? by Rose Laffan
The occasional smack to a naughty child remains a common form of discipline in our community, so when is a smack an assault? The Crimes Act (NSW) provides for a defence of lawful correction. Section 61AA says that where a person has been charged with applying physical force to a child (such as assault), it is a defence to the charge if the force was applied for the purpose of punishing the child but only if: • The physical force was applied by a parent (in the case of separated parents, this means
the person/s with parental responsibility for the child) or a person acting for a parent (which is defined); and • The force was reasonable having regard to factors including the age, health and maturity of the child and the nature of the misbehaviour. The law is clear to say that force is not deemed reasonable if it is applied to any part of the head or neck, or any other part of the body in such a way that it is likely to cause harm to the child that lasts more than a short period.

LAWYER: Charmian Seil just launched Myall Coast Legal
New legal opens
By Rebekka CUNNINGHAM
TEA Gardens and Hawks Nest has a new local permanent solicitor in town ready to service its community. Charmian Seil moved to Tea Gardens in early 2015 after working for various law firms in Sydney and Newcastle. Charmian is married to Uwe Seil who has for the past 12 years donated his time and sound equipment to the annual Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Motorfest and various other community events including the 2015 ANZAC service. Charmian recently established Myall Coast Legal, a boutique law firm designed to service the local community.
“After my husband and I moved to Tea Gardens in early 2015, I saw that there was a need for a local permanent lawyer to provide services to the community,” Charmian told the News Of The Area. “I established Myall Coast Legal so that I can provide local, affordable, convenient and proficient legal services to local residents,” she said. In addition to being available on Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, Charmian will provide a modern approach to legal practice and will visit clients at their homes by appointment. Charmian will be specialising in property law as well as wills and estates.
OVERALL maintenance and public works requests for the Pindimar area to Great Lakes Council (GLC) appear to have fallen on deaf ears despite several calls, according to members from the Pindimar Bundabah Community Association Inc (PBCA) Works Committee. Some requests for even the simplest of tasks appear to have been given a low priority according to Peter Economos from the PBCA. Speaking with Myall Coast News Of The Area, Peter Economos said, “Here we are getting towards the end of February 2016 and there are still many outstanding tasks for GLC to tend to after last year’s April storms.” “This is an unreasonable/ unacceptable situation. The community deserves the attention that other areas in the Shire receive,” he said. “There are significant road and drainage issues in and around Pindimar and Bundabah which in reality are health and safety issue.” News Of The Area obtained several emails between GLC staff and the PBCA which outlines Councils stance on several projects including maintenance of fire trails, foreshore restoration at South Pindimar, including the boat ramp and erosion problems near the big pine tree, and maintenance and restoration of the Reserves in both North and South Pindimar. “Great Lakes Council cannot claim to be a standalone Council by relying on continual increases in rates and grants,” said Mr. Economos. News Of The Area spoke to Council’s Director of Engineering Services Ron Hartley. Mr Hartley said, “The Pindimar-

Council recently completed substantial works in North Arm Cove to which rectified a problem where stormwater entered houses. “This must take precedence over water ponding in the roadside drain,” Mr Hartley told News Of The Area. When asked about specific projects, Mr Hartley said, “With regard to the South Pindimar boat ramp and pine tree, Council sought funding through recent grant programs but was unsuccessful.” “However, Council is pursuing the protection of the pine tree and has obtained an approval from the Marine Park Authority and completed a review of Environmental Factors to enable this work to be undertaken,” he said.

Waste expand
News Of The Area
Modernise waste infrastucture MYALL Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead has announced that Great Lakes Council’s waste facilities in Tea Gardens and Tuncurry has received $1,080,614.00 to expand and enhance its recycling infrastructure to increase its capacity to recycle. The NSW Government funding, under the Resources Recovery Facility Expansion and Enhancement grants program, is from the NSW Environmental Trust. Mr Bromhead said Great Lakes Council would receive the funding to install glass crushing plant at the Tuncurry Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to process an additional 9,600t tonnes per year of bottle glass sourced from municipal kerbside services and 2,500 tonnes per year of commercial plate and laminate materials sourced from glass and glazing businesses in the Mid Coast region. While at the Tea Gardens facility, Australian Native Landscape (ANL) project will process 18,000 tonnes per annum of wood waste currently destined for landfill at its licensed facility in Tea Gardens (in addition to the 12,000 tonnes
per annum of wood waste ANL received grant for in 2014). ANL will source pallet waste, timber offcuts, fence palings, selected tree waste and other wood waste streams from regional transfer stations, landfills and waste management facilities. The wood waste will be de-contaminated, ground to particle size, screened, coloured and packaged for market. The project will complement the existing wood waste operations on site and alleviate stress placed on landfill assets in the region. “This investment is just one of many the NSW Government is making to modernise waste and recycling infrastructure in NSW and improve the capacity for resource recovery,” Mr Bromhead said. “The government has set an ambitious target of diverting 75 per cent of waste from landfill by 2021. “To achieve this we are expanding kerbside collections to create a new network of community recycling centres and improve the infrastructure at waste facilities to enable them to recover more recyclable materials.”

Upcoming plays
MYALL Coast Entertainers (MCE) have been invited to plan and participate in the entertainment for the Grey and Thespian Mardi Gras (for Seniors week) on Saturday the 9 April. It is being organized by the local Progress Association and Myall Coast Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. President of MCE, Allan Wilson said, “Because of the great success we had with the radio plays last year, we are happy to present more.” There will be four short comedy plays. “The Good Old Days,” written by Allan, will kick start the evening’s entertainment. Followed by “A Pair Of Lunatics,” and “A Matter Of Husbands.” The evening will end with a play written by local identity Trish Ziliani called “Don’t Mess With A Senior”, performed by the Grange Players. The two locally written plays will be performed for the first time anywhere,
thus will be World Premieres. The plays will be presented at 6.30pm for a 7pm start on Saturday, 9 April, at the Hawks Nest Community Hall. There will be theatre style seating to accommodate more people for this one night only production. Tickets will be available from Monday, 7 March, at the Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens Pharmacies.

years, and teaching for three. Her classes at the Uniting Church in Tea Gardens are held in the outside hall on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5.30pm. On 29 February she will also start a Monday class for parents from 10am and kids are welcome. “I started practicing Zumba when I had two young children.”
“It is so hard to find time to exercise when you have to juggle the kids, but I was lucky to find a class where kids were welcome.” “I wanted to create something that gave other mothers that same opportunity.” Christine’s studio has a kids’ corner where kids can sit and do their homework or colouring while Mum works out. Or the kids can even join in for a wiggle. Kids can participate for
free, and adults can work out for the very low price of $8 a session. And, weather is no excuse - if it’s hot or cold, the hall has air conditioning. Christine also works with Jan Walker who does Zumba Gold at the Grange, a low impact class targeted towards the elderly or those with limited movements. For more information please contact Jan on 0411 433 181 or Christine on 0422 285 277.
Promotion of tourism is to be a major focus for this year
By Daniel SAHYOUN BULAHDELAH Chamber of Commerce and Tourism held their first meeting for 2016 last week, with plans underway for a busy and productive year. With the promotion of tourism a major focus, the Bulahdelah website will undergo an upgrade and transformation. This will include updating information, images and links to businesses and community organisations. A Quick Response (QR) code has also been generated for the website. As part of the tourism focus,
a new series of postcards and stickers featuring images of the local area is being developed by members of the Chamber and will be available from businesses shortly. Facilities for visitors are also being upgraded with construction set to commence on a picnic shelter adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre in the coming weeks. This project has been funded through a grant received from the State Government’s Community Building Partnership Program. The Chamber has received confirmation from Taree
Council indicating the proposed Nabiac Service Centre has been approved. This will have significant implications for Bulahdelah which will be discussed at future meetings. Other projects scheduled for the year include lighting for Stroud Street, upgrade of lighting at the sporting precinct, development of a Super Chamber and review of the town plan. The next meeting of the Bulahdelah Chamber of Commerce and Tourism will be held on 8 March at the Bulahdelah Visitor Information Centre at 7pm.

All drama for Myall Coast rising stars By Daniel SAHYOUN DRAWN to the bright lights and thrill of the stage, 20 emerging stars recently converged on Sydney to attend a four-day drama camp known as “On-Stage”. For the enthusiastic cast of Bulahdelah Central School students, the program was about improving their theatrical skills as well as experiencing the diversity of theatre styles. The students were dazzled by performances at the Opera House, Australian Theatre for Young People and Seymour Centre while the brilliance of last year’s outstanding HSC Drama performances were inspiring. School drama teacher Mrs Vanessa
Shultz, said the highlight was seeing the magnificent production of the Sound of Music at the Capital Theatre. Inspired by Marina Prior in the role of Maria and Cameron Daddo as Captain Van Trapp, catchy tunes such as Do-Re-Mi and So Long, Farewell were enthusiastically echoed by the students for hours after the show. But it wasn’t just about entertainment for the students. Taking centre stage, there were plenty of opportunities for participation in practical workshops. Circus skills, monologues, scripts, costumes, lighting and props gave the students insight into the theatrical world. Hawks Nest local Tate Brunisma,
who is no stranger to the stage with past roles in school productions and eisteddfods, said the camp would definitely assist with his future drama studies. “We learnt about many styles of acting and also about the importance of different ways of emphasising words while speaking,” he said. “It definitely showed that drama and acting are enjoyable and the skills we learnt will help me improve my own performances.” As the curtain fell at the end of the four day camp, the students returned loaded with new inspiration, experiences and dramatic skills ready to put to use in their upcoming productions.

probably just dazed and heat stressed. So he was released back in Hawks Nest a little distance away from where he was rescued to try to avoid further confrontation with the resident “alpha” male. An interesting sidelight to this story was that when in care it was found that he had a microchip installed which showed that he had been in care a year previously. He had been called Jye after being rescued from Kingfisher Avenue near the Jean Shaw Koala Reserve. He had been attacked by two dogs after foolishly dropping into their fenced backyard. Fortunately for him he only suffered bruising and again was released after only a few days in care. Since the first rescue he has put on more than three kilograms of weight and moved more than a kilometre, probably in search of a territory of his own; hence the fight in Carinya Close.
A FASCINATING story of male koala rivalry occurred in Hawks Nest early in this long hot summer. On Thursday 10 December (a 38 deg day) two male koalas were having a dispute in a Swamp Mahogany tree 10 metres above the ground in Carinya Close. They had been fighting for two hours when the larger of the two, forced the younger, smaller boy so far out on a branch that it finally broke under their combined weight and they both fell to the ground. The larger male got up and ran off. However, the smaller one, who appeared to be dazed, staggered to the house next door and collapsed. The residents called Native Animal Trust Fund wildlife rescue and Ian Morphett was called to see if he needed attention. He was collected and taken to a Hunter Koala Preservation Society carer on the other side of Port Stephens for assessment. He was certainly in a distressed state, was dehydrated and there was concern that he may have sustained head injuries. However, after three days of an intravenous fluid drip and a trip to Noah’s Ark vet in Nelson Bay for a check-up, it q KOALA: Jye in Care. was determined that he was Photo: Sue Swain

Bush Fire Period end THE NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) has declared an end to the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period in the Great Lakes area 4 weeks early due to easing conditions. From Tuesday 1 March 2016, fire permits will no longer be required for the Great Lakes Local Government Area. NSW RFS Superintendent Jim Blackmore said all members of the public must still abide by the law when conducting hazard reduction burns. “Even though a fire permit is no longer a requirement, residents must still notify their neighbours and the local fire authority 24 hours before burning,” Superintendent Blackmore said. “People should also check whether they need a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate, and have sufficient equipment to control and contain the fire to their property.
MyallCoastNews.com.au
“Despite these milder conditions, there is always the potential for fires to threaten life, property and the environment, if not managed correctly. Superintendent Blackmore said the local community should not become complacent to the danger of bush fire now that the danger period is officially over. “I urge all residents to take the threat of bush fire seriously and prepare their families and home now,” Superintendent said. “Your local fire station or Fire Control Centre can provide advice on how to safely undertake hazard reduction work, and how best to prepare yourself, your property and your family for the next bush fire season.” To arrange a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate, or a free environmental assessment, contact your local Fire Control Centre.

LGA’S Federal Funds BOB Baldwin MP has welcomed the Australian Government announcement of this quarter’s payment to local councils under the Financial Assistance Grant programme. This is the third instalment of untied funding to allocate to local priorities that Paterson councils will collect this year. Mr Baldwin said without the Financial Assistance Grant programme, residents could be paying higher council rates for the same or lower levels of service Council
Some councils jurisdictions cross multiple federal electorates. Electorates are as per the Roads to Recovery reporting and represent 2013 Electorates. Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government Paul Fletcher said in 2015–16 the Financial Assistance Grant programme will provide $2.3 billion for local governments nationally. “This includes $1.1 billion that was paid early to States and Territories on 30 June 2015,” Mr Fletcher said.

Pub assists unconscious
Stung by wasp. Thank you to the Paramedics
Dear News Of The Area,
ON Tuesday 16 February whilst having lunch at the Tea Gardens Hotel one of our elderly friends collapsed and became unconscious in the dining room. Whilst waiting for the ambulance to arrive the new manager Steve along with his wife Trish and their staff could not have been more helpful in tending to our friend and making her as comfortable as possible. For this, we (Pauline, Margery, Steve and Bert) would like to extend to them our sincere thanks. Fortunately, due to the efforts of all concerned she has recovered fully and is resting comfortably at home.
Dear News Of The Area, A HUGE thank you to the Tea Gardens Ambulance Service and in particular to Tim (and his driver) for attending me in Pindimar Tuesday 9 February after I was anaphylaxis bought on by multiple paper wasp stings to the face. Without their calm reassurances and professional manner on my way to hospital, I am sure my panic would have overwhelmed me! It is comforting and reassuring to know that the Tea Gardens Ambulance Service has such professional and caring paramedics on hand. A huge thank you once again. Lorraine Washington Pindimar

Neighbour Aid group, see red
By Daniel SAHYOUN
SURROUNDED by a sea of red, the enthusiastic Bulahdelah Neighbour Aid group celebrated Valentine’s Day at their recent social gathering. With a mass of red flowers, grown by the members themselves, an enjoyable day was had by all. Run by volunteers, the Bulahdelah Neighbour Aid program provides social support for people over the age of 65. Coordinator Mrs Dianne Burns, said the immensely popular program gives people
the opportunity to enjoy conversation and companionship. “Most of the members are widowers and live alone, so we provide a social network for them,” she said. “We even have a waiting list of people wanting to join the group.” The fortnightly sessions, funded by Great Lakes Council in conjunction with Neighbour Aid Tea Gardens, begin with a gentle yoga class with other activities, quizzes and puzzles included in the program. Group member Mrs Irene Worth, said the program provides
a good opportunity to catch up with fellow community members. “It’s great for staying in touch with people, and the activities are good to challenge ourselves with,” she said. Each meeting has a theme with members dressing for the occasion. Past themes have included “Oh What an Ugly Jumper” and “Let’s Have a Mexican Fiesta.” The sessions conclude with lunch where everyone can enjoy a chat with fellow members. “It’s definitely enjoyable, and something to look forward to,” Mrs Worth said.
184 days to get into the outpatients department at John Hunter when, in writing, I was told due to the urgent request from my Doctor I had to be seen in 30 days. The ambulance situation in Tea/Gardens is absolutely disgusting and it is not the fault of the dedicated ambulance officers we have, it is the complete fault of this lousy NSW Government. Last Friday my wife had to suffer for an hour for an ambulance to come from Nelson Bay to take
her to Hospital and yet we have an ambulance station 500 metres away. This happens on far to regular occasions here because the NSW Liberal Government will not pay for paramedics to be called on overtime and yet they can spend 7 million dollars on fireworks. This NSW Government is playing Russian Roulette with our lives. Ronald Judge Tea Gardens
Don’t agree, State Gov.
Dear News Of The Area,
I REPLY to comments made by member for Myall Lakes Mr Stephen Bromhead in the News Of The Area edition 11 February 2016, Regionial hospital update. Mr Bromhead was quoted as saying the NSW Liberal/Nationals Government has made a record investment in recruiting Doctors and Nurses, what total garbage. If that is the case then why does it take someone like myself
Support offered for pontoon Dear News Of The Area, I HAVE been approached by several Chamber and committee members recommending that the Chamber support the proposal being spearheaded by the Myall River Action Group to re-establish the Tea Gardens tidal pool on the Myall River waterfront as part of the “Boating Now” funding program (Refer article in Myall Coast News Of The Area edition 18 February 2016). Council has the opportunity to construct additional public facilities under the ‘Boating Now’ funding program. The proposal is to construct a floating pontoon around a tidal pool enclosure opposite ‘Hook ‘N’ Cook’ where the original tidal pool was located in the 1960’s. I also believe the proposal has real merit for the area and should be supported. Accordingly, I have drafted a letter to Great Lakes Council in support of the proposal. The matter was also to be raised on Monday 22 February at the Marine Drive Foreshore Reference Group meeting. Please provide any additional feedback, for or against, for discussion. STAGE: Showstoppers cast amazing performance.
10 MYALL COAST NEWS OF THE AREA
I RECENTLY had the privilege of seeing the Maitland Musical Society’s production of Showstoppers - Curtain Call prior to it coming to the Hawks Nest Community Centre. Looking at a cast of almost 40 entertainers performing over 40 numbers from some of the best shows to come out of Broadway it is hard to understand that these talented young people are amateurs, not professional dancers and singers performing for a wage. These amateur
performers are volunteers, giving their time, energy and talents because they love what they do, they love to entertain, full stop! I am not going to tell you that every act is brilliant, because there are some that are not but they are completely overshadowed by the beautiful singing and dancing of the majority of the numbers. It would be hard to pick the best numbers or entertainers but for me the standout Performers were without doubt the extraordinary children in the cast. Would you believe the

youngest is 4 years old? Then, in addition, there are 4 more under 11 years of age and the way these kids can dance and sing along with the seasoned performers will captivate you. Wait and see a vivacious 7 year old performing an exquisite ballet sequence, Wow !! It’s on Saturday 27 February at 7.30pm and Sunday 28 February at 1.30pm. Chris Klimeck, President of the Myall U3A said, “I’d like to invite you all to come along and enjoy yourselves by attending the latest show to come to our two towns.” “I think we are fortunate that entertainment of this kind comes to our location to bring a bit of singing and laughter as we settle in after the summer holiday rush,” he said.

BOWLS
FROM Page 16 Bringing home the money, on +41 were Tom Short, Geoffrey Muggleton and Dennis Ashbridge. Well done! 19 February: In fine and very hot conditions, 16 players contested the Friday Jackpot Pairs today. Just when we thought that the winner with the highest margin had to be the winner, the winner was chosen from the game with the lowest winning margin. Bruce Everett and Alan Greenhalgh had a low margin of just +1. But David Stamp, a visitor from Turramurra, and his partner George, (Frosty), Winter won on a countback also on +1. I wonder how they did that! Four teams went into the barrel for the Jackpot draw, but again the winning marble was not drawn. More money for next Friday! 20 February: The first round of the Club Minor Singles was played today with a battle of the two Bills. Bill Moon competed against the in-form Bill Heylbut in a ferocious southerly wind. The wind really won because it really played havoc with the bowls. When they were allowed to play Bill Heylbut eventually won after 32 ends, the score 31-18. 21 February: The second round of the Club Minor Singles was played in hot breezy conditions. There were really no surprises with the results. Bill Heylbut continued on his winning way with a nice win over “rookie”, Bruce Everitt 31-20 Danny Johnson, who must be considered amongst the favourites for the title, had a convincing win over Anthony Grant 31-13. Mark Hair was never headed in his game against John Slater, running away with the game, 31-18. Evergreen Doug Naylor, a finalist in previous years, disposed of Alan Greenhalgh on the grass to win 3117. Ross Barry had a tough match with Stewart Sturrock but eventually won 31-25. In the remaining game played, another “rookie” David Garcia led Vic Garlick at the 24th end 23-21 but Vic put on a great spurt winning the next 5 ends to close out the match 31-23. Great effort David! There were two forfeits giving Peter Gurney and Denis Wilberforce an easy ride through to the quarterfinals to be played next Sunday 28 February. In the quarter-finals, Bill Huylbut will play Vic Garlick. Peter Gurney will meet Denis Wilberforce. Mark Hair takes on Doug Naylor and Danny Johnson will play Ross Barry. In Sunday Introduction to Bowls it was nice to see 31 bowlers participating including 10 new players. The winners with the lowest score were Barry Wall (new bowler), Ross Smith and Graham Kelly. Lucky Losers were Dianne Kiss, Garry Wynne and Ray Prigg. Many thanks to our Cooks for the day, Ron Conaghan and Barry Goode, and a big thank you to Coach Bob Weir. Co-ordinator, Robyn Webster, would also like to thank Beverley Thrift and all the girls who help every Sunday.

a difference. Maynie was at her very best, winning with a score of 25 – 9. Well Done! On rink 4 Lorraine Harvey defeated Lynne Green, after a marathon 34 ends. This was a really exciting match, with both players determined not to give in. The scores inched along in ones, twos and three shots, no big scoring ends. With sheer grit and determination Lorraine was the victor, with a score of 25 – 23. A big “Well Played” to Lynne. Congratulations Lorraine! On rink 5 Robyn Webster defeated Kathie Rimmer. This game was played over twenty ends. After nine ends the score was level, then Robyn forged ahead and the result was never in doubt, the score being 25 – 9. Kathie played some nice shots but just couldn’t keep up with Robyn. Robyn was runner up last year, so Kathie had a big challenge. Congratulations Robyn! Well Played! A big thank you must go to the markers of these games. There were insufficient numbers for social bowls today.

BOWLS
17 FEBRUARY: A very pleasing 62 players attended the usual Wednesday Nominated Triples in overcast and windy conditions. This attendance was certainly a record for 2016. In keeping with the results from previous competitions, teams needed high scores to be in the money. It’s been a long time between drinks for most of us mere mortals but much depends on the draw and the quality of the opposition that will determine the winners. Running third, on +36 was the combination of Henk Faber, Mark Hair and Bill Helybut. They lost on a countback to Col Farrugia John Younghusband and Brian Emmett, who finished second also on +36.
