40 years ago Christmas was more or less unknown to the Thais. The Christmas we remember from our childhood with warm family togetherness was being transformed to become a commercial dominated event. As such many foreigners was happy to move to Thailand and skip the dreaded “Commercial Christmas” only to experience that the Thais saw a great opportunity for another party and adopted Christmas, but in their own for westerners “funny” way with a mix of Santa Claus, Jesus Christ, Christmas trees and the red nosed reindeer. This month I was invited to try the new December holiday menu at Café des Amis. When it comes to premium dining, most

people already know this is probably the finest restaurant in Pattaya. White table cloths, fine crystal and luxury wine goblets

that cry out to be refilled. What most people don’t know is they have over 200 brands of gin, more than anywhere else in Thailand. Maybe even all of Asia.

More than 20 top shelf brandies.

So I knew my dessert would have to be a very special martini. I doubt anyone has tried every single one of these gins.

For the month of December they have a very special set 3 course menu. 1450 baht and only 700 baht additional for the THREE recommended glasses of wine.

1. Appetizer. Delightful Beettroot cured Salmon and smoked Salmon mousse. As presented the plating was such it seemed a shame to destroy the art by eating it. But it was my job.

Thank god. The Salmon mousse was a very pleasant surprise.

Spicy plumb Lamb Chops with Jerusalem artichoke, complemented with a Black Garlic puree, roasted vegetables and cranberry. I was pleased to see black garlic puree as black garlic is the new in ingredient in many high end restaurants. I expected yet another mint sauce, but this puree was a delight. Lamb was perfectly cooked and exceptionally tender.

Certainly the best I have had in a decade or more!

Already awarded with the Travelife Gold Award for their contributions towards the environment and a cleaner world, the hotel took their efforts to a new level and recently installed a Byogas box in the kitchens to cook the food for their daily buffets.

Quite often we have seen a lot of cases where bodily harm is inflicted, there are many bars and there are always a lot of people who will spend time there to drink the alcohol. Sometimes they will get too drunk and end up in an argument which will turn into a fight with the other person. If later on the party that was injured goes to the police station to report that Mr. A hurt Mr. B then the police will send the injured party to the hospital for medical treatment. With the medical treatment the doctor will diagnose and give

the proper care to the injured party but they will also give a statement of how serious the injuries are and how many days the victim will have to be treated. The amount of days hospitalized carries with it harsher punishments on the party that inflicted the injuries. If a person is accused of inflicting bodily harm to another person they are liable to be punished by the law with up to two years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to four thousand baht. If grievous bodily harm is inflicted then the punishment will be six

months to ten years imprisonment.

Grievous bodily harm are as follows: 1) Deprivation of sight, deprivation of hearing, cutting of the tongue or loss of the sense of smell.

2) Loss of genital organs or reproductive ability.

3) Loss of an arm, leg, hand, foot, finger or any other organ.

4) Permanent disfiguration of the face.

5) Abortion.

6) Permanent insanity.

7) Infirmity or chronic illness which may last throughout life.

8) Infirmity or illness causing the sufferer to be in severe bodily pain for twenty days or to be unable to follow the ordinary pursuits for over twenty days.

The main point of this is that whenever you go to the police station after an incident has happened, if the police believe your case and go to arrest the person that hurt you, they can make a

judgment on whether they are guilty or innocent. Or the other way around if they find evidence and judge that both sides are liable then they will not investigate anything but will then sue both parties to be the co defendant of which you will have to prove your innocence to the court. The Thai court judge has the authority to convict bother parties or just one side; this is all based on which side has the best case with the strongest evidence such as witness testimony.

Lawyer Comment: Please understand that once you go to the police station to file a report the Thai police will ask you to compromise and finish the case together, if you don’t want to do that you will have to prove that you are not guilty. This can be difficult if you are intoxicated as well, maybe some witness saw that you are the cause of the case of causing bodily harm or maybe the other side will make up the witness to point to you to say that

you are the one who is in the wrong. It happens a lot in Thailand if you’re not sure that you’re one hundred percent not the cause of anything. The way we have experience in fighting cases like this, we have to check if they have any camera records or CCTV system installed as these systems cannot lie. Please ask the police to check the venue or location of the crime for use as evidence, being convicted of this crime or even the punishment may not be too

severe in most cases but it is enough for the authorities to deport you as foreigner who is staying in the Kingdom but is making problems. PATTAYA WINS WORLD FILM AWARD

The film 110-Man Ultimate Fight is about a young Thai man who sacrifices everything to follow his dreams – a sacrifice that led him to become not only a world champion but to achieve “Best Short Film Documentary of Martial Arts” honours at the Art 4 Peace Awards in Conjunction with the World Film Festival.

This is his story.

On March 25, 1997, he was born in a coastal town – Pattaya Chonburi, Thailand – into a family heavily devoted to the martial arts. At three years of age, Junior (known to his friends as Oui, or “Fatty”) started his journey in the martial arts. He would even-

of the most difficult karate gradings in the world: the Shorin Kempo Shodan. The grading lasted three days.

When Junior was 10, he started competing internationally in Japan, where he immediately began dominating in his divisions.

Since 2007, Junior has competed in more than 67 international karate and boxing tournaments.

At the age of 15, he entered the 1,000-day Uchideshi Program, which only 97 people in Shorin have entered, and which only 19 managed to complete. It is one of the hardest and most demanding karate training programs in the world. On February 1, 2017 Jun-

tually become one of the world’s best Karate advocates.

Junior was lucky to have had a father, Kancho Sifu, who is a very famous karate teacher and the leader of one of Japan’s largest karate organizations. Through this connection, Junior had access to some of the world’s best training and competitions.

The martial art known as Shorin Kempo is one of the most physically demanding styles of karate.

Its rigorous way of life led Junior along the path to his current success. From the age of three, Junior has trained nearly every day of his life, at his father’s side. Until recently, while most of the world knew about Junior’s accomplishments, many in his home country did not. At 10 years of age, Junior became the youngest person in the world to complete at one

This training brought him to where he is today.

With three world-title belts and participation in more than 67 international tournaments, along with the knowledge he had learned from some of the best karate teachers in the world, Junior saw that fighting is just a small part of karate. Rather, karate is a way of life that teaches one to adapt to and overcome all the challenges that one encounters.

From 2016-2018, Junior travelled the world, teaching seminars alongside his father in India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries. During one of these trips, he met a young boy named Zac Chaplin, who loved karate and was a fan of Junior’s.

Zac was dying from a rare form of cancer that doctors were struggling to understand. Junior was moved by how the karate instructors and club in a little Aus-

tralian town rallied to help Zac and his mother, who couldn’t afford to pay for the medical treatment and had lost their home trying to keep Zac alive and give him hope.

Junior flew down to Australia in May 2017 and gave Zac his world title belt. He told Zac that Zac deserved the belt more than Junior did, as Zac was fighting for his life. Junior said to his father, “I fight because I love it, but Zac is fighting for his life. If I lose, nothing changes; I can fight again. But if Zac loses, he dies!”

Mathew Charles – Zac’s karate instructor and a student of Junior’s father – was going to at-

tempt the 100-man fight to raise awareness for Zac, as well as raise money for Zac’s treatment.

However, while preparing for the fight, Mathew sustained a devastating leg injury which ended his

fighting career. Everyone was devastated. Junior offered to take Mathew’s place.

The date was set for May 28, 2018. The Kumite (Fight) would take place in accordance with Japanese tradition, behind closed doors on the island of Okinawa, Japan. The only people allowed to be present were the fighters, the Japanese masters to authenticate the fight, and family and friends. At the time, only 28 people in the world had succeeded in fighting 100 karate fighters in one day, non-stop. Junior was seeking to become the youngest person in karate history to attempt a Japanese-certified Kumite. He was also the lightest.

The masters decided that this Kumite had to be different from all those before it. Its purpose was to raise awareness of the fight against cancer in children.

Junior was approached and asked if he could step far beyond expectations and fight 110 men to make a statement: “Never give up when the going gets tough!” He accepted the challenge.

Junior trained harder than he’d ever trained in his life. This time he wasn’t preparing to win or knock out his opponent; he was training to survive four hours of excruciating pain, injuries, and broken ribs, to take whatever was dished out to him and get back up and fight on until the end. This fight would be a bare-knuckle one, with no protective equipment except for a groin guard. Junior was preparing to receive as many as 1,000 full-force kicks from karate champions throughout the 110 rounds of fighting, as well as up to 5,000 bare-knuckle punches. He knew it wasn’t about winning; it was about how much he could take until the end.

Many people didn’t know that seven days before the fight, Junior suffered a devastating knee injury. Doctors said he wouldn’t be able to fight. Junior was upset; he had come so far. If he stopped, what would that have said to a little boy battling cancer for his life? Junior received revolutionary orthopaedic cell therapy on his knee at the Zen Clinic in Pattaya. Within three days he was walking again, and within five days he was back training. Two days later, Junior announced that he would continue with the fight.

Junior knew that he had just lost half of his weapons; he wouldn’t be able to kick in the fight, which meant he would have to take even more punishment than he expected. The fight now became

The documentary 110-Man Ultimate Fight moved so many at the

goals has attracted the attention of some of the world’s most influential people in the fields of sports, karate, business, art, teaching, and film. They have been inspired to support youth and teach people that sports are not just about victory but are a way to express, learn, adapt, and overcome, as well as to help all those in one’s life.

The presenter at the awards ceremony summed it up best when he said that although the award for the film festival was for the Best Short Film Documentary of Martial Arts, the honour went far beyond that. The movie showed a young man’s sacrifice for some-

It also led to the development of Junior’s foundation, “Fight Cancer for Kids,” which has received massive support.

Mr. Davoo Roostaei is one of the world’s most famous artists. He painted for Pope John Paul II, and his painting hangs in the Vatican.

Davoo has also painted the Dalai Lama, four sitting presidents of the USA, the president of France, the chancellor of Germany, the great Muhammad Ali … the list goes on. Davoo approached Junior and said that he would be honoured to paint him. Davoo’s paintings sell for 250,000 USD to

THAILAND LEADS ASIA Bangkok – International visitors spent more money in Thailand than in any other Asian country in 2017, according to a UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) report.

The report said that Thailand recorded a total tourism expenditure of USD57 billion in 2017, ahead of Japan (USD34 billion), Hong Kong (USD33 billion), China (USD33 billion) and Taiwan (USD12 billion).

The figures are based on surveys tabulated from credit card spending data and the cash receipts in different countries around the

world.

The survey also indicated that Thailand has everything for everyone, ranging from luxury villas on private islands to affordable street food, which is why tourists can always find good valuable experiences in Thailand.

UNWTO also predicted that tourism expenditure will increase in the next year, thanks to strong Thai tourism promotion campaigns and growing foreign investment in world-class hotels in Thailand.

It could be that the extra sugar raises your blood pressure or releases more fats into the bloodstream. Both can lead to heart attack, stroke, and other heart diseases. · Harm: Diabetes: -Sugary drinks in particular can boost your odds for type 2 diabetes. That can happen because when sugar stays in your blood, your body may react by making less of the hormone insulin, which converts the food you eat into energy. Or the insulin doesn’t work as well. If you’re overweight, dropping even 10-15 pounds can help you manage your blood sugar. ·Harm: High Blood Pressure: -Usually, salt gets the blame for this condition, also called hypertension. Your liver turns it into fat. If you regularly pump fructose into your body, tiny drops of fat build up in your liver.

This is called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Early diet changes can reverse it. But over time, swelling and scarring can damage your liver. · Harm: Cavities: -You know sugar rots your teeth. How? It feeds the bacteria in your mouth, which leave behind acid that wears away your tooth enamel.

Sugary drinks, dried fruits, candy, and chocolate are common offenders. Sour candies are among the worst. They’re almost as acidic as battery acid! If you eat tart treats, rinse your mouth with water afterward or drink some milk to neutralize the acid. ·Harm: Poor Sleep: -Too much sugar during the day can mess with your blood glucose levels and cause energy spikes and crashes.

You may struggle to stay awake at work or doze off in class at school. In the evenings, a bowl of ice cream or cookies can pump you with sugar that can wake you up at night. It also can cut short the time you’re in deep sleep. So you may not wake up feeling refreshed. ·Possible Harm: ADHD: -It’s a common perception that sugar worsens the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

But the link is unproven. More studies knock down the theory that sugar causes or worsens ADHD than support it. We don’t know exactly what leads to ADHD, but your genes probably play a

large role. ·Harm: Mood Problems: -Feeling down? Your sweet tooth may be part of the problem. Several studies have linked sugar and mental health problems. One of the latest showed that men who ate more than 66 grams of sugar a day — almost double what’s recommended — were 23% more likely to be diagnosed with anxiety or depression than men who ate 40 grams or less. Too much sugar could fuel depression through swelling, or inflammation, in your brain, which is more common in people with depression. ·Harm: Gout: -You may know that you can get this painful arthritis from eating too much red meat, organ meats, and lobster.

The same goes for fructose.

When your body breaks it down, it releases a chemical called purines. That can make uric acid build up in your blood, which in turn forms hard crystals in your big toe, knees, and other joints. ·Harm: Kidney Stones: -You get these when chemicals in your pee turn into solid crystals. Your body flushes out some kidney stones without much pain. Others can get stuck in your kidney or another part of your plumbing and block urine flow. Too much fructose — from table sugar, highfructose corn syrup, or processed foods — raises your chances for kidney stones. ·Harm: Aging: -Sugary drinks may add years to your biological age. DNA called telomeres cap the end of your chromosomes to protect them from damage. Longer is better. Shortened telomeres may go hand in hand with agerelated diseases like diabetes.

One study found that people who drink 20 ounces of soda a day have shorter telomeres. Researchers’ figure that’s like adding more than 4 years to the age of your cells.

alternative sources of investment in the region other than China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Tokyo is keen to work with Australia on maritime security initiatives in the Pacific and the two countries, along with the US, are expected to make some infrastructure announcements as part of their Trilateral Strategic Dialogue.

Australia and Japan this year spearheaded the resurrection of the Trans-Pacific Partnership after Donald Trump withdrew US support for the multilateral trade deal.

Australia also deployed three military planes to Japan to monitor North Korean vessels suspected of defying UN sanctions.

And importantly, Canberra supported Tokyo’s efforts to revive the Quad as a strategic grouping in the Indo-Pacific region.

Japan and Australia normalised ties in 1957, with the signing of the “Agreement on Commerce”, just 12 years after the end of World War II, in which Japanese forces bombed Darwin killing more than 250 people.

The deal was controversial at the time as many sections of the community and even some around the cabinet table believed Canberra had moved too quickly to sign a formal agreement with Japan.

However, it has come to be viewed as a milestone in Australia’s engagement with Asia.

Mr Abe’s visit to Darwin is hugely S5nnbolic as it is

the first by a Japanese Prime Minister since the city was bombed in WWII. The visit echoes his trip to the US naval base at Pearl Harbour with former President Barack Obama in 2016, where he offered “sincere and everlasting condolences”. It was the first time leaders from both countries had made the visit to Pearl Harbour together and was part of Japan’s efforts, under Abe, to move towards more normal international security partnerships.

His stopover to Darwin on Friday on the way to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders meeting in Port Moresby also marks a commercial milestone for Japan in Australia as Mr Abe will visit the Ichthys LNG project - in which Japan’s Inpex is the majority shareholder and operator. The huge project, 30 per cent owned

by French major Total, is expected to produce for 40 years, shipping LNG mostly to Japan and Taiwan. It taps fields off the Kimberley coast, with the gas then piped to Bladin Point near Darwin through a 890-kilometre pipeline.

It was approved for development in 2012 at a budget of $US34 billion and originally expected to start production at the end of 2016 but has suffered several construction delays and cost overruns. Japan is the largest importer of LNG in the world and Australia is the country’s biggest energy supplier.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, to avoid dehydration, active people should drink at least 16- 20 ounces of fluid one to two hours before an outdoor activity. After that, you should consume 6 to 12 ounces of fluid every 10 to 15 minutes that you are outside. When you are finished with the activity, you should drink more. How much more? To replace what you have lost: at least another 16 to 24 ounces (2- 3 cups).

The ever warm weather here in the Land of Smiles brings with it thoughts of cool ocean breezes, napping in a hammock, and sipping a tall glass of lemonade. Now hold on to the mental image of that lemonade because sunny days are also a time to be wary of dehydration: the lack of sufficient water in the body.

Water is important to the body at all times, but especially in warm weather. It keeps the body from overheating. When you exercise, your muscles generate heat. To keep from burning up, your body needs to get rid of that heat. The main way the body discards heat in warm weather is through sweat. As sweat evaporates, it cools the tissues beneath. Lots of sweating reduces the body’s water level, and this loss of fluid af-

Pattaya and a very active member of the Irish community in Pattaya. About 1,000 participants from around the Asian region gathered to compete in the various Gaelic Sports like Hurling, Gaelic Handball and Football and Camogie.

250 ANNIVERSARY PARADE 2018 P.I.L.C CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

A huge parade went through the streets of Pattaya to celebrate the 250 anniversary of King Taksin the Great’s march through Pattaya to liberate the kingdom of Ayutthaya.

Navy personnel was dressed in the costumes of that period. Dressed up soldiers from about 100 fishing boats and other vessels landed on the Pattaya beach near Soi 6 on October 29 to join the parade and carried a statue of King Taksin. A fantastic parade of more than 1,000 participants, with elephants, horses and dancers.

Taksin the Great (April 17, 1734 – April 7, 1782) was the only King of the Thonburi Kingdom. He had

been an Ekatat servant and then was a leader in the liberation of Siam from Burmese occupation

after the Second Fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, and the subsequent unification of Siam after it fell under

various warlords. He established the city of Thonburi as the new capital, as the city of Ayutthaya had been almost completely destroyed by the invaders. His reign was characterized by numerous wars; he fought to repel new Burmese invasions and to subjugate the northern Thai kingdom of Lanna, the Laotian principalities, and a threatening Cambodia.

Although warfare took up most of Taksin’s time, he paid a great deal of attention to politics, administration, economy, and the welfare of the country. He promoted trade and fostered relations with foreign countries including China, Britain, and the Netherlands. He had roads built and canals dug. Apart from

PSC GOLF CHAIRMAN – JACK MOSELEY The Executive Committee of Pattaya Sports Club has appointed Jack Moseley to be Golf Chairman.

Jack has been very extensively involved with golf in Pattaya for many years, including organizing both Ryder Cup & President Cup Tournaments, Inter-Bar Matchplay, many tours both in Thailand & Overseas as well Handicap Chairman for the PSC. He was the past owner of the Outback Golf Bar, which he started with Bob Philp in 2007, before going their separate ways in 2012; Jack eventually selling the bar in 2015. For the last 2 years he has spent time in Surin away from Pattaya and golf.

Jack has some exciting refreshing new ideas and whilst there have been no PSC golf tournaments lately; Jack is planning the annual Charity Classic to be held in February and the Committee

Many of our regular locals stayed away, partly due to the fact medal is not many people’s favorite format, and partly because the course is also not to everyone’s liking. Our numbers were boosted by the return of a couple of regulars in Mike Lloyd and Keith Smithson, and a new golfer from Turkey Attilla Panir, our first Turkish member. The course looked in excellent condition well manicured and grassed but was slightly damp underfoot. The new alterations to the course had many scratching their collective heads, why you would remove healthy mature trees and replace wellgrassed areas of the course with “waste areas” is a concept that is hard to fathom. Yet again many of our regulars stayed away for today’s round at the beautiful Pattana course so a smaller field than expected of sixteen took park. The course was in good condition as usual but the weather was oppressively hot at times. There were no hold ups so speed of play was ok. As with our last visit we started on B1 an intimidating hole with water on both sides of the fairway which normally catches out a few players. Today it was the water in front of the green that caught out all three golfers in our first group. The course is clearly preparing for the high season as many of the caddies today were novices and of little assistance.

For the second game in a row, Pat Ryan took first place on countback with thirty-eight points from Julian Pressinger. Some might say it was the “Luck of the Irish” but Pat is a

bit too consistent for luck to play that much of a part in his current run of form. The ever consistent Keith Smithson took third place with thirty-seven points. Newly arrived from Oz Geoff Williams got straight down to business taking a near pin with Keith Smithson, Jimmy Carr, and Neil Carter taking the remaining three. The day was unseasonably hot and humid and the pace of play was slower than we have been accustomed to in recent times, however only one hold-up on the first parr three. Crystal Bay is considered to be one of the easier courses on our playing roster as it proved today with some very good scores returned, that takes nothing away from the overall high standard of golf played. Both Julian Pressinger in his last game with us for a while and Neil carter put in superb rounds of forty points and had to be separated on countback with Neil taking the honors. A good return to form saw Jimmy Carr take third with a very creditable thirtyeight points. Geoff Willams and the wiley old fox Gordon Melia took fourth and fifth places again separated on countback. Good to see Gordon return to good form having played very little golf in recent times. Near pins went to Gordon Melia, Keith Norman, and two to Julian Pressinger.

GROWLING SWAN PATTAVIA – THURSDAY 15th November 18.

STABLEFORD. “Shooter McGarvie leaves Town with his guns still Smoking” Two buses and a couple of cars took us up the highway to this lovely course. The trip itself was uneventful other than dodging the craters on the road leading from the highway to the course proper.

Bus chatter lasted about 20 mins then I think that golfers were catching up on a bit of shut eye!

Pattavia GC (the pineapple plantation) was today’s venue. I played today (attempted) and have to say that I have not played on a course that was in near perfect condition as this was. You could not fault this course in any “way shape or form” it was a delight to play. Sorry the sand in the bunkers was a bit off, and I should know as I entered bunkers on fourteen occasions. We attacked this fine course from the yellow tees!

We are happy to welcome back some seasonal visitors, with more on the way, and on this day fifteen intrepid golfers met at BJ’s Lodge for wake-up cups and some good food before heading out to Pleasant Valley. For once the predicted weather was clear all day and that proved the case.

We haven’t been to Pleasant Valley in a while so it was time for a

A Flight saw Bill Shooter McGarvie (on his last outing with us) take the game by the scruff of the neck and went out with all guns blazing. He greeted the judges with a very good score of 41 points. Second and forcing a count back was Martin Kempton, but it was Bill’s day today. Third place and finishing the placings was buffalo Bill Steinmann with Alex Field forcing yet another count back. Unfortunate for Alex it was Buffalo that got the nod.

B Flight was not as close Sean Millar had a cracker of a game and shot a very good 40 points, a lot of credit goes to Fabian as he did a great job with the shortening of his clubs. Second was sorted by the count back system with Colin Stielow knocking JC Lhoste into third position. These two were six points behind the winner.

SIAM COUNTRY RESORT Tuesday 13th November we went to Eastern Star with 3 groups.

The refurbished clubhouse looks very good. The course was in good condition, but not always easy to play. The weather was quite hot and not all of us were happy with these circumstances.

But we had a nice day out. Paul Davies was in good form today and won with 34 stable ford points. Second was Paddy

LINKS GOLF SOCIETY Steve Baker Snares Another Jacket Friday 16 November, 2018 at Pattana, Sometimes it’s good to be in the last group ( cough!) as you have time to smell the roses.

The roses are not yet blooming at Pattana but, stand on an elevated tee anywhere around the course and take in the view. Fantastic!

Green, rolling, beautifully cut fairways, the different shade of green at the tee boxes and the putting surfaces, and the water features.

Stop and look sometime.

The only down side, if there must be one, was the weather. For most of the round it was just hot and humid and wearying for those in carts. Hats off to the walkers for making it through.

Now to the golf..

On a course in such good condition, we might expect some good scores, and we got them.

“B” flight saw a tight finish decided on countback for first, with Steve Baker edging out Martin Hoblyn to take his second Green Jacket. Both had a great 40 points.

Then another close one as Jim Ferris and Stan Stewart both scored 38 points, with Jim’s better back nine getting him third.

Derek Phillips had 37 points and didn’t get a look in.

Thursday 15th November we went to Khao Kheow, where we played the A & C course. The course was in good condition, but many places were wetter than normal because of the rain in the night before. The weather was very hot today and we missed a

“A” Flight best score of 38 points came from Maurice Roberts with his second win in his last two outings to Pattana. Something works there.

Colm Lawler was a late entry on Thursday afternoon. A phone call to Phil and he added him to his group, along with Maurice. Colm repaid with a well played 37 points for second place on his first game at Links Golf.

Huw Phillips returned after a long absence to make his presence felt first up, scoring 35 points, while Guy Stewart bounced back from his “wig” performance on Monday to hold fourth spot with 34 points.

Eamon Moran, another first timer at Links earned a mention for having the best back nine score of 19 points for non winners, and Tony Browne had 21 points on the front nine.

SOULED OUT - 7 ANNIVERSARY th

The fab and groovy sounds of Northern Soul echoed out around the Lion Pub for the 7th anniversary of the always ‘sold out’ charity event.

This venue was universally agreed to be the best venue and sound yet with so many enthusiastic dancers on the talcum powder dusted floor, including the brilliant organizer Eva Johnson together with 96FM’s Barry Upton and Kiss FM’s Malcolm Bell, all of whom love this ‘Tamla Motown’ style of music so much.

Some ardent cult followers who

still have all the moves, were ‘Keeping The Faith’ as they have done since the sixties and seventies from which era all the music eminates from.

DJs Keith and Ivor were on form selecting the best range of tracks possible including all the great favourites.

All the money raised this time from party goers and corporate sponsors went to the Baan Jing Jai home for kids.

This is another big Pattaya event held twice a year, the next will be in March 2019.

DRAGON TEAM WIN 3 TROPHIES The Long Boat Race takes place every year in Rayong during the Loy Kratong festivities. Pattaya People Media Group was this year the sponsor of the strong “Dragon Team” captained by the father of Patsanan Colov (wife of the PPMG Chairman). There were Long Boat races in 4 categories and the Dragon Team won 3 categories, they even gave the competing team in the grand trophy race a heads start before cruising to the win. Congratulations to the entire Dragon Team winners now every year for 11 consecutive years.

MIXX DISCO CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY

POLICE WEDDING

A huge wedding party took place on Saturday 24. November at Pattaya City School number 11.

The married couple was Khun Chatwirai “Pookpick” Moenprasert and Police Lt. Colonel Kanchit

Teanjam, who is presently stationed at the Banglamung Police Station. Many honorary guests attended the party including Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Eakasingh and owner of the Mike Group of

businesss Khun Surat Mekavarakul. The wedding party was indeed a glamorous affair and a party that will stay in the memory of the about thousand guests for many years to come.

LADYBOY WATER VOLLEYBALL EVENT Another colourful great annual Pattaya event took place recently at the Areca Lodge Hotel in Soi Diana.

This year’s charity event raised 600,000 baht, mostly from corporate sponsorship, and was split evenly between three Pattaya charities, the Pattaya Orphanage, Take Care Kids and Rotary Club’s water filter project.

The enthusiasm of the many Ladyboy water volleyball teams, cheered on by equally exited cheerleaders and spectators, was a delight to witness and after an afternoon of intense sport, there followed an evening buffet and award ceremony during which the charity cheques were presented and trophies for the winning teams given. Also, kids from the receiving charities performed onstage as a big thank you to all the participants.

Special mention should be given to the organizer, Tony, who ensured a professional approach to the whole event including a superb MC/DJ who kept the event going with sensible appropriate music and a clear audio system.

The Ladyboy community of Pattaya can be very proud of their achievements in raising so much money for local underprivileged children.

It seems that was no truth to the rumour that an official from the Olympic committee was conducting sex tests during the games.

A NEW WAVE ON THE AIRWAVES

OMG – IT’S CHRISTMAS AGAIN

Christmas is upon u s once again

meaning the season of aggressive TV advertising, overspending, overindulging, over eating and over the top wishes of wellbeing (but only for the Christmas period) is upon us.

A cynical view I hear you say, but truthful as I usually see it. How-

ever I do have a balanced view on the subject and love the fact that it’s a wonderful excuse for families to get together once a year, giving each other stuff they don’t really need apart from kids who quite obviously need everything.

I have always got into the Christmas spirit of partying and ensuring audiences at my gigs are well entertained, even going as far as dressing up in a very fetching snowman outfit for my 2004/5 Christmas ‘HotPantz’ hit from a few years back ‘I’d Like To Give U One 4 Christmas’ – ref YouTube).

Every year the same old Christmas songs get reeled out and, despite many attempts at new

Christmas hits by various artists and wannabees trying to take advantage of a possible loophole in the Simon Cowell chart domination mafia, Noddy (look to the future now – it’s only just begun) Holder,…. Mariah (I don’t want a lot for Christmas) Carey ….and Roy (I wish it could be Xmas everyday) Wood are still the main protagonists.

I really cannot believe that Mariah, being a girl, so I’m convincingly lead to believe, really doesn’t want a lot for Christmas. If it was only ‘you’ that she wanted and you didn’t buy her a present, a red card would be the most likely outcome.

Noddy’s specialist subject is the ‘bleedin’ obvious’ after his prediction that the future starts now. No need to buy him a watch as a present. It’s ‘ker-ching’ time for him anyway with his royalty statements, so he can get what he likes.

But the ‘Arch Bishop Wizzard’, Roy Wood has a point. If it was Christmas every day, for a start maybe the world could suddenly be at peace, everyone would be kinder than usual to those they might not normally be so to, the soaring costs of celebrating December 25th (or whatever date your particular Christmas is celebrated on) can be spread out across the year more evenly, plus…the Queen would speak directly to us more often…although finding new motivational speeches everyday

might be challenging. Nobody would have to suffer the depressing prospect of taking down

brightly coloured Xmas decorations in early January. There would be at least 365 public holidays in a year and we can all eat Xmas dinners for evermore. Well done Roy. If you were a politician and these were your main policies, even Trump would struggle to put up a fight for supremacy over that.

My contribution to this year’s festivities is my new song what I wrote and produced, released on December 7th. The title is Oh My God (OMG) It’s Christmas again. This can be taken two ways, either as a celebration of your own religion, or, a frustrated look at the impending blot on the calendar. Something for everyone!

Therefore, if you really want to ‘make merit’ at this time, help the poor and needy plus the many children locally whose faces will light up at simple acts of goodwill.

By legally downloading my song from one of the many download sites all over the world, for less than a cup of fancy coffee, you will do exactly that as all the royalties from this track will go to help local childrens charities here in the Pattaya area.

RADIO 96FM+KISS 91.75 ‘IT’S CHRISTMAS’, shouts Noddy Holder of Slade very loudly just in case you didn’t know that the festive season is upon us once again.

Therefore, over the next few weeks, 96FM will be gradually feeding in a pot pourri of songs with a yuletide flavor from ‘Winter Wonderland’ to that popular Bing Crosby song.

However, only in the week of Christmas will the expected tunes be played with the rest of the month being taken up with the not so often heard Christmas songs of yesteryear plus a few modern pastiches such as a fake Eminem version of Jingle Bells and a rocked up Sled Zepplin. It’s all in keeping with the fun upbeat policy of Pattaya People Radio on 96FM keeping everyone happy, thos who love Christmas….and those who don’t.
