I LOST MY HUSBAND TO COVID-19 Conrad Buchanan, 39, died after testing positive for the coronavirus. His wife Nicole shares his story. Today we’re sharing the story of Conrad Buchanan, a devoted husband and father who died after testing positive for the coronavirus. Conrad Buchanan woke up the morning of March 14th — the very day that he, his wife Nicole, and daughter Skye, 12, were supposed to be leaving for their spring vacation — with a low grade fever and body aches. He worked as a DJ, and was around big parties and crowds. When he woke up that morning, his back hurt so much that he told Nicole he thought they might need a new mattress. As the day wore on, he proceeded to feel worse, developing body aches and nausea. He was swabbed for the flu, but the test came back negative. His primary care doctor gave him a script to test for Covid-19, but because he had no prior health issues, hadn’t travelled out of the country recently, and was only 39 years old, nobody would test him. His symptoms continued to get worse. By Wednesday the 19th, he had developed a horrible cough and diarrhea. Four days after showing symptoms, Conrad was finally able to get a drive through test for Covid-19, where he was swabbed and told to self-quarantine. On March 21st, Conrad received his results: he had tested positive for

Covid 19. The Health Department instructed him to stay at home, and to go to the hospital if he was having trouble breathing. By that evening, he was so sore from coughing and body aches that he couldn’t physically get himself to the bathroom. Nicole told us that she knew it was time to take him to the hospital: “By Sunday, I could tell his breathing was just getting tougher for him. I kept telling him we should go in, and he was telling me he was so scared to go in. But his pulse was low — 84 — and I knew I had to take him in. “We get to the hospital — Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida — and at that point he’s still talking to me. He says to the ER team: ‘My wife has to come with me.’ He’s scared out of his mind, and the

hospital staff says, ‘She just needs to park the car, and then we’ll bring her to you.’ When I parked the car and came back to the entrance, the hospital staff wouldn’t let me in. I can’t get into the ER, no one is talking to me, and the hospital is on complete lockdown. “An hour goes by, and I finally speak to a doctor who says, ‘I intubated your husband and put him on a ventilator, and he’s waiting to be moved up to the ICU.’ I said, ‘What? Why did you put him on a ventilator?’ Nobody called me; nobody let me know what was going on or told me what the recommendations were. I know my husband would have never made that decision on his own.The doctor told me that this was the protocol during the pandemic.” That night, Conrad had a pul-

nurse put us on the phone with him, we were able to sing that to him as he left us.” Conrad died that day at 5:45 p.m. Now, Nicole is fighting to get an autopsy: “I want answers. A medical examiner hasn’t even looked at my husband’s body. They are trying to rule it as a natural cause. But they need to look at his body to get answers. These doctors don’t know what they’re doing. They’re not ready, and they’re not prepared. Everyone is scared. They wouldn’t even test me, and I’ve been in the house with him for 16 days. I finally got my own test and I’m positive, but my only symptoms are that I have

no taste or smell. Why did he die but I’m okay?” Nicole called the CDC to file a complaint, and was told they are only performing autopsies on 5% of Covid-19 victims. “We, as the U.S., need to prepare these hospitals and these doctors — we need to know what happened to him.” Nicole said. “I would never want somebody in a million years to go through this. I feel like I’m in a horror movie.” She told us, “He was so loved in this community. He was such an uplifting, goofy spirited guy. He just loved bringing every walk of life together through music.”

monary embolism, which affected his lungs and the right side of the heart. Nicole says that although she was able to “sneak in” to the hospital, she wasn’t allowed to touch or be in the same room as her husband. She had a nurse put a phone up to his ear so that she could talk to him. Nicole told us, “By that time, he was medically sedated and paralyzed. The nurse there was amazing, and she could see and hear my pain. I asked her to call me when things took a turn. On Thursday she called me, told me his oxygen level had gone down to 40, and they were pushing epi every 10 minutes to keep his heart going. He had brain damage. I knew that that’s not a life he wanted to live. He always sang “Three Little Birds” to our daughter, so when the

Meanwhile the soccer players from the U.S. were confident in winning against a group of small Thai kids with special needs, they did not know that two of the players are in the national Thai side and have played at the Special Olympics. On the way to the Technological College for People with Disabilities, several visitors boasted at how good they were at basketball, but they soon

stopped when they saw the local students sitting in a wheel-

chair, racing across the court, dribbling and bouncing the ball and then scoring. But to give them credit, the Americans played very well and even managed to score several points. Sitting volleyball is a Paralympic sport and in a recent international competition most of the Thai team were either former or current students from the college, the Americans did not stand a chance.

LAND & HOUSE OWNERSHIP In my experience I have seen many foreigners who come to Thailand to buy the land and house only to be informed by a law firm or an accounting firm that you cannot own the land and house yourself. These law or accounting firms will then make a comment to the buyer recommending that they transfer the land by way of a long lease of up to thirty years. Thus their hand is forced and they have to go through with the decision of leasing the property. But why should this be so? The buyer who purchases the land from the seller should also be the owner of that land, why can they not be the owner of the land when they pay the same full amount? But they will only possess the land under the

processing your transfer, it doesn’t go through because the law firm is not professional, the documentation in support of the company is not accepted or a host of other reasons that will not permit the transfer of ownership to your company. After you get to this point you will be forced to decide to leasehold the land or get nothing. Another thing you should know is the amount you have to pay for the leasehold is more than the amount of the freehold or the purchase of that land, normally if you leasehold land it should be cheaper than buying in full. I get a lot of questions from foreigners who have leased the land like this and what we recommend is to have the ownership rights transferred back to

LAWYER COMMENT: If you have the chance, plan ahead and make sure what you want to do, but if you are in the bad situation like above you will have to pay more expenses such as lawyer fees and court fees to get the ownership back, but it is still possible. Before you use any law or accounting firm, listen to them and make sure that they have the proper knowledge and experience to give you advice and that you understand them perfectly. If you are unsure try to find other competitors until you find one that makes your mind clear and then choose between them. If you have a

COVID-19: ALL IS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT practice of Western medicine is based on Pasteur’s germ pho-

Pasteur’s theories were plagiarized from Bechamp’s early re-

by all but the most virulent microorganisms. It is also likely that you would experience fewer colds or viral infections and have better overall resistance to infections.

Key Steps to Boost Your Immune System

“Le microbe n’est rien, le terrain est tout.” (The microbe is nothing, the “terrain” is everything) –The last words of Louis Pasteur (Father of the “Germ Theory” of disease), admitting that another French scientist named Antoine Bechamp was right all along with his theory known as the “cellular theory” of disease. To prevent illness, Bechamp advocated not the killing of germs but the cultivation of health through diet, hygiene, and healthy lifestyle practices such as fresh air and exercise. The idea is that if the person

has a strong immune system and good tissue quality (or “terrain” as Bechamp called it), the germs will not manifest in the person, and they will have good health. It is only when their health starts to decline (due to personal neglect and poor lifestyle choices) that they become victim to infections. Pasteur and Bechamp had a long and often bitter rivalry regarding who was right about the true cause of illness. Ultimately Pasteur’s ideas were accepted by society and Bechamp was pretty much forgotten. The

bia which gives rise to the use of vaccinations, antibiotics, and other anti-microbials. The irony is that towards the end of his life, Pasteur renounced the germ theory and admitted that Bechamp was right. In the 1920’s medical historians also discovered that most of

search work. Back to the COVID-19 what we know today is that only a few categories of infected people risk either serious illness or even

death. These categories are older people and those with weakened immune systems or medical conditions like chronic bronchitis, emphysema, high blood pressure, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, or diabetes. This means the healthier the person, the less likely the virus is to cause damage. It sounds obvious you may think, but “being healthy” to fight such an infection means much more than having no particular health problems. As with all types of coronaviruses, the immune system plays a crucial role in fighting infection. Therefore people with low immune function will be most affected. So, while washing your hands, avoiding contact with people having flu symptoms, avoiding travel, etc. are key precautions, it is also important to focus on building a stronger immune system. With a strong immune system, you are safer from attack

ISSUE 624  APRIL 2020

A healthy lifestyle is essential for immunity. Be sure to eat a healthy diet, exercise, avoid toxins, maintain appropriate body weight, and get enough sleep. As stress lowers immunity, take steps to manage it. Practice techniques to activate the relaxation response, such as breathing exercises, visualization, or meditation. Eating Habits - Avoid refined sugars and satur a t e d fats - Avoid G M O foods, j u n k f o o d s and processed foods - Make sure you get plenty of quality protein and essential fatty acids. - Take a multivitamin and mineral supplement or get most of them in Superfood Smoothie - Take extra vitamin C, or consider taking liposomal vitamin C. - Zinc and Selenium are two important minerals for boosting i m m u n i t y. (Sunflower s e e d s , pumpkin seeds and cashews can provide you with sufficient zinc and selenium).

- Boost your vitamin D levels. - Eat probiotics and prebiotics: Foods rich in probiotics and prebiotics like apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, kimchi and kombucha can facilitate better gut health and a stronger immunity. Use famous virus killer products

Colloidal Silver: It has been known to work against a number of other coronaviruses and older research dating back to the 1980’s demonstrates that silver can stop numerous types of viruses from replicating, simply by bonding to them. Oregano oil: has a compound called carvacrol which is largely responsible for its biological activities. In addition to antiviral properties, this compound also has antibacterial, antifungal and antiparasital effects. In all, oregano has at least 50 compounds that have antimicrobial action, including thymol and rosmaric acid. You will learn what you need to know about these very important subjects of Living Wills, Final Wills, Probate and Distributing Estates. Regarding drawing up Wills in Thailand, Kelvin writes: Thai888 Law Company can draw up your Last Will and Testament by Thai Law standards. The document will be in Thai and English in alternating paragraphs. All of your wishes, Beneficiaries, next of kin, assets, and their location are listed and placed in a booklet. copy is kept in our office and 1 copy is for you. In Thailand, the Will and the Executor must apply and appear in Court. The Judge will ask you (under oath) some questions about your worthiness to be the Executor and what relationship you have to the deceased. You cannot be a bankrupt or incompetent. If the Judge is not satisfied with the Will or the Executor he/ she may ask for more information or dismiss the application for Probate to begin. So it is better to have a professional Will made so that future issues are minimised. Contact Kelvin at: Kelvin Bamfield Thai888 Law Company.

PINEAPPLE CAFÉ AND GRILL

We finally had an opportunity to try the Pineapple Café and Grill located at the Siam Royal View on Khao Talo. Several stories up

on top of the hill the restaurant has the most incredible views of all of Pattaya and its city lights. Unlike tower views down by the beach they are alone and you can look north and south as far as the eye can see. You can choose to sit outside on a nice night by the pool or be seated by the window in the air-conditioned seating area. A remarkable facility. Alone worth the visit. Chef Jordi cooks in a visually accessible well-built kitchen and the plating of all dishes exhibit incredible artistry. There were four of us and when we visited the menu had just been updated. A nice selection of seafood, steaks of course and European dishes. As expected there was a nice selection of thai foods as well. For starters we also shared the Pan seared XI Hokkaido scallops which came with a honey chili

sauce. This was followed with the smoked Tuna Tartare served with tomatoes, strawberry and lightly smoked with apple wood. With four hungry people they promptly disappeared. I decided to try the sirloin steak and ordered it medium rare and was not disappointed. Complete with a variety of sauces of your choosing to go with the veggies and mashed potatoes of course. Sauces include Red Wine, Porcini mushroom, Pepper corn sauce, Rosemary sauce and béarnaise sauce. Another one of us ordered the Lamb Shank. Had to taste because of the colorful presentation, and it was amazingly delicious. The grilled sea bass served with grilled asparagus and cauliflower was a nice change for us. Again the presentation was stunning. We went on to try a pasta and chose the Aglio E Olio with Shrimp. It

was a delightful combination of bacon, prawns and cherry tomatoes in a slightly spicy spaghetti. For a Thai dish we choose traditional Pad Thai with jumbo prawns. Nicely done. Feeling bold, we had something called a Paccheri salted egg cream. Basically a salted egg yolk, cream, peanuts with sesame crumbles. Surprisingly tasty. But all roads lead to deserts. WE shared a chocolate brownie, then a chocolate soufflé and end with a huge assorted desert called labeled as “something for everyone” with a dry ice presentation. It was called The Russian Roulette. It was both delicious and fun. Again if you are seeking a special evening out around fine dining with a spectacular view this is the place.
