Cribbage Harbord Diggers
The Cribbage club has had another wonderful year of card playing and this year we managed to hold all our regular competitions. It is so lovely being back at the Diggers and everyone is very happy with our venue and the staff are extremely helpful.
For the summer round of the competition, Valerie Boulton took out 1st place, with Malcolm McGregor coming 2nd and Barbara Aikenhead came in 3rd. In the Autumn Round, Tony Richards came 1st, with Val Boulton 2nd and Jane Thompson coming 3rd. In the Winter Round, Jim Mitchell came 1st with Pat O’Sullivan coming 2nd and Vi Stewart coming 3rd. We are just now commencing the final round for this year, the Spring Round, so no points are being posted yet. Our double Championship was taken out by Val Boulton and Malcolm McGregor upon beating Margaret and Howard Perkins. Congratulations Val and Malcolm. The winner of the prestigious Roy Perri Trophy which is the culmination of all the points accumulated for the whole year for 2018 went to Pat O’Sullivan for the third year running. However, it is looking very likely that there are several other members all vying for the trophy this year. The highest possible score in cribbage is 29 with the 2nd highest score being 28 and that is very rare for anyone to get either score. However, Leigh Lockrey was very excited to score 28, so a very big congratulations to Leigh. At our AGM our President Jane Thompson has resigned after expertly running the club for 12 months, so we must thank her for her innovative and progressive ideas. We are now welcoming our new President, Val Boulton, who I know will be a wonderful asset to our club. Val was our Secretary and now that position has been filled by Maree Sprod. Tony Richards remains as Vice President, and Pat O’Sullivan stays on as Treasurer and we now have a new Committee member in Brigitte Grover. Congratulations to all the Office Bearers and hopefully we will have a wonderful year of card playing ahead of us.
