Toastmasters – Evening Harbord Diggers

Harbord Diggers Evening Toastmasters going strong

We’ve enjoyed being back in the beautiful new Diggers venue with our own dedicated club room. With around 35 members now and lots of visitors coming to each meeting we’re filling the room at most meetings. The Diggers has kindly let us use the full club room area to host some special weekend events – last November we hosted the Inter-RSL Toastmasters Contest which is the only team event held in Toastmasters and is open to clubs that are sponsored by RSL clubs across the greater Sydney area. It was a great success and we were proud to introduce many of our fellow Toastmasters to our sophisticated new venue. We also held a special workshop on speechwriting and introducing humour into your speeches which was run by an expert Toastmaster. Over 60 people from all over Sydney attended this full day event held on a Saturday. One of the highlights of the year has been the success of our members in preparing and presenting wonderful speeches at the club level as well as competing in Area and District contests. We were thrilled to see our Immediate Past President; Laura Fagan win the Table Topics contest at the District 90 Annual Conference in May. Laura was competing against the best of the best from across NSW and did the club proud. Toastmasters gives us so many opportunities to develop our presentation and leadership skills in a supportive encouraging environment. It also provides an important social outlet for many and we have certainly formed some great friendships in our local area through membership in Toastmasters. Thank you to the Mounties Group and the team at Harbord Diggers for their continued support and encouragement – it’s very much appreciated.
