HHSO’S 40TH SEASON

WELCOME BACK TO THE 40TH SEASON OF YOUR HILTON HEAD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, THE ORCHESTRA OF THE LOWCOUNTRY! We are back and thrilled to bring live orchestral music once again to the Lowcountry. This season’s core repertoire of beloved symphonic classics like the titanic Fifth Symphony of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the richly nuanced Third Symphony of Brahms, and the inspirational “Reformation” Symphony of Mendelssohn, will be complemented by brilliant works that we have not presented here before, including the much-talked-about Piano Concerto in One Movement by Florence Price, the quiet and powerful Fratres by Arvo Pärt, and the World Premiere of Jessie Montgomery’s first piano concerto. Our special guests include several artists who are familiar members of the HHSO family including violinist Will Hagen, baritone Michael Preacely, and HHIPC Winner Kevin Chen, as well as the HHSO debuts of violinist Tessa Lark, and pianists Michelle Cann and Awadagin Pratt. I’m particularly excited to introduce guest conductor José-Luis Novo to Hilton Head, whose program includes a concerto for bandoneon by tango composer Astor Piazzolla. There will be a lot of celebration this season between the orchestra’s 40th anniversary and my 10th with the HHSO, so we’ve put together three sensational and fun programs with everyone’s favorites: “Holiday Pops,” “JMR’s Greatest Hits” in February, and April’s wild “Dance Party,” with performances from ballet to ballroom, tango to tap as well as Irish stepdance and a hip-hop number thrown in for good measure. Let’s get the party started!
