ean Ensemble Theater is celebrating our return to the live stage with stories that spark and inspire your conversation. The last eighteen months have asked all of us to look at the world in a different way. It’s a view that has exposed all of our humanity, warts and all. So, this season we offer up plays that portray both our light and darkness, our kindness and fear, and our joy and laughter as well as our pain. We’re honoring the entirety of the human experience, one story at a time. We open in October with the regional premiere of Larissa FastHorse’s THE THANKSGIVING PLAY, a biting satire that’s not afraid to stare “wokeness” smack dab in the face as politically correct characters attempt to produce an enlightened holiday origin story. In December comes Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award winner ART, a comedy about friendship, sophistication, and a controversial purchase of an all-white painting with a hefty price tag. We kick off 2022 with OTHER DESERT CITIES by Jon Robin Baitz. This Tony-nominated drama revolves around a Christmas homecoming and the jolting announcement that one of the children is about to publish a memoir exposing a tragic family secret. Spring brings the long-awaited world premiere of MITCHELVILLE live on stage. Playwright Aurin Squire bridges the past and present from Hilton Head’s Civil War era to today’s heirs’ property issues. We close with the regional premiere of Second City’s DEATH OF A STREETCAR NAMED VIRGINIA WOOLF: A PARODY, a comic mash-up of famous characters by Tim Sniffen. We promise you that this collision of egos, neurosis and wackiness will be worth the wait! So join us at Lean Ensemble in celebrating the return of music, theater, arts and culture right here on Hilton Head Island. Blake White Founding Artistic & Executive Director
