Old fair ‘on fire’!

It has been running for 771 years, and with a theme of ‘traditional folk songs’ the organisers say this year’s Chulmleigh Old Fair was a big hit.

It was proudly opened by retiring fair chairman Peter Older and his wife Sue with the crowning of ‘the Queen’.

“Peter was chairman of the committee for many years and we thank him for his long service, and for all the other things that he has been involved with in the community,” said new Chulmleigh Old Fair chair Sue Reed.

By popular demand the opening evening saw an impressive and fiery display by the Higher Beings Circus (photo right supplied by the group).

The week continued with the craft fair, fancy dress, country market, sports day and culminated with a street party on Saturday.

“A big thank you goes to the Chulmleigh Old Fair committee for organising this annual event upholding all the ancient traditions. Also to the army of volunteer stewards, firstaiders, the generosity of sponsors including Molton Monthly Magazine, and the support that our local businesses give, without which this event couldn’t take place,” added Sue.
