Exmoor National Park halves carbon emissions

Exmoor National Park Authority has announced a 50 percent drop in its carbon emissions since a climate emergency was declared back in 2019. Both Exmoor and Dartmoor have committed to becoming beacons for a sustainable future, using their partnerships to help meet

the UK’s climate change targets while also supporting thriving rural communities.

Andrea Davis, Chairman of Exmoor National Park Authority said, “We hope by demonstrating the great work we’ve done already halving our own emissions across Exmoor, we can now encourage other organisations to think about how they can reduce their carbon emissions and the impact of climate change.”

Alongside wind turbines like the one pictured above, there’s been a switch to electric vehicles and tools, environmental improvements at historic buildings, school activity sessions, plus tree and other planting schemes helping to draw down excess carbon from the atmosphere. Even the iconic signs and gates seen across Exmoor are being made from locally grown wood.
