Jobs to do in June 1. Take softwood cuttings of deciduous shrubs such as Spiraea, Buddleia and Caryopteris. 2. Divide bearded irises after flowering, replanting sections with at least two fans of leaves attached. 3. Protect lilies, delphiniums and hostas from slugs and snails. 4. Continue planting out or direct sowing runner and French beans. 5. If long grass in a wildflower meadow is over-vigorous, help reduce its strength by over-sowing with yellow rattle. If you haven’t planted your pots, borders and baskets yet don’t worry you are not too late, we still have a huge selection of plants available. The most popular colour schemes this year have been red, white and blue, or, purple and white as people want to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There is also still time to plant a tree for the Queen’s Green Canopy, we have plenty of potted trees in stock. We will be open as usual every day over the extra bank holidays in June and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend. Until next month, Jenny Howells
