The Minot Area Career Expo is a one-day event designed to expose area high school students and the Minot community to high-wage and in-demand careers. Local business and industry professionals are invited to showcase their career opportunities through hands-on exhibits.

These interactive exhibits are designed to:

Educate attendees about in-demand career opportunities and related training

Introduce career paths attendees may not know about Spark new ideas and ignite aspirations for the future

Feature what makes the Minot area a great place to live, work, and play

At the Career Expo, we encourage the exhibitors to engage students with hands-on activities related to the career you are showcasing to assist them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to be successful in a position at your organization.

Last year, the expo welcomed over 1,800 high school students from area schools and exposed them to over 40 different hands-on exhibits featuring various career opportunities from around the area! Snag your spot and register online by clicking here!

INTERMODAL

Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC) joined Rail Modal Group (RMG) in celebrating the 100th train carrying containers with North Dakota and regional products to international markets from the Minot Intermodal Facility. The October 3 event marked multiple milestones, as the Minot Intermodal Facility also celebrated four years of operation and showcased recent awards from the State of North Dakota and International Economic Development Council.

“The Minot Intermodal Facility provides access to key West Coast shipping terminals for our producers and processors,” said Doug Goehring, North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner “This is instrumental in getting our North Dakota agricultural and manufactured products to international buyers in Central America, South America and Asia I’m pleased to celebrate this milestone and look forward to the future growth of the facility ”

“We are proud to support our local and regional shippers, producers and manufacturers with a successful intermodal shipping option through the Minot Intermodal Facility,” said Brekka Kramer, President | CEO of Minot Area Chamber EDC. “This effort has been a key avenue for businesses throughout the area to add greater value to their product as they are able to reach international markets more easily through use of the railroad Reaching 100 trains in just four years puts the Minot Intermodal Facility ahead of projections and well on its way to shipping its next 100 trains out of Minot

“Rail Modal Group is proud to operate the Minot Intermodal Facility and thrilled to announce our 100th train departure Since launching operations, we have shipped over 20,000 containers to the Northwest Seaport Alliance. By providing local businesses,

producers, suppliers, and industrialists with streamlined, green, and efficient logistics solutions, we’ve enabled access to the global supply chain,” said Todd Whitmore, Chief Commercial Officer at RMG. “We are honored to support the great state of North Dakota and all its suppliers, near and far. Special thanks to BNSF Railway, the Minot Area Chamber Economic Development Corporation, Commissioner Doug Goehring, Governor Doug Burgum, Congressman Kelly Armstrong, and the incredible people of North Dakota for their unwavering support of this logistics solution. Together, we’re driving growth and sustainability in North Dakota and beyond!”

The Minot Intermodal Facility opened in October 2020 and in the four years since has shipped more than 20,000 containers (primarily 40-foot containers) on 100 trains The 100th train arrived, was loaded, and left the week of September 30, then traveled to the ports of Seattle and Tacoma where it was offloaded by The Northwest Seaport Alliance onto container ships that transported the cargo to ports around the world.

FACILITY

Through the Minot Intermodal Facility, products have been shipped to ports in more than 20 countries on four continents The top commodities shipped in the four years include wheat, dried distiller’s grains (DDGs), soybeans, pulses (peas, lentils, etc.), bagged lignite (a brown, soft, oxidized coal), and sugar beet pulp pellets. An average of three to five trains, with 200 to 220 containers each, leave the Minot Intermodal Facility each month.

“The Minot Intermodal Facility marks the first project in The Northwest Seaport Alliance’s Inland Rail Hub Strategic Initiative and has proved to be a great success,” stated Kristin Ang, Port of Tacoma Commission President and The Northwest Seaport Alliance Co-Chair “By providing a seamless connection via rail for inland agriculture producers to reach international markets, inland farmers are able to expand their distribution while also limiting logistics time and costs We look forward to our continued partnership with Rail Modal Group and the Minot Area Chamber Economic Development Corporation and

“The 100th train milestone marks a significant achievement for the Inland Rail Hub in Minot and is a testament to the successful collaboration between The Northwest Seaport Alliance, BNSF Railway, Rail Modal Group, and the Minot Area Chamber Economic Development Corporation,” stated Hamdi Mohamed, Port of Seattle Commission President and The Northwest Seaport Alliance Co-Chair. “This initiative has not only boosted agricultural exports from North Dakota, but has also contributed to a more sustainable and efficient transportation network.”

DAKOTAHOPECLINICCELEBRATES ANNIVERSARIESWITHRECORD-BREAKING FUNDRAISINGBANQUETS

Dakota Hope Clinic of Tioga marked its two-year and Dakota Hope of Bottineau it’s one-year anniversary at a series of Fundraising Banquets held across the clinic’s three locations in Bottineau, Minot, and Tioga in September. More than 1,000 supporters gathered in total to celebrate and raise funds for pregnancy help services across north central and northwest North Dakota

The theme of “Hope Unleashed” was central to all three events, highlighting the profound impact donations have had in the communities served by Dakota Hope. In Bottineau, Clinic Nurse Bonnie Engel shared how efforts are ongoing to raise awareness of the free pregnancy services offered, including the transformative power of ultrasound technology. Engel emphasized how Dakota Hope encourages pregnant women and their partners to witness their baby's heartbeat, creating a non-judgmental and compassionate space where each individual’s worth is honored

Lisa Powers, Clinic Associate at Dakota Hope in Tioga, shared that because of the services offered at Dakota Hope, local moms and dads who might have thought abortion was their only option, were spared the pain and regret that decision can bring This happened because they were fully informed about the development of their baby and were made aware of the long-term holistic support available to them Lisa also discussed how local parents have taken advantage of the Earn While You Learn program to help them grow in their parenting skills and provide for their children with the diapers and other items they earn

The audiences were especially moved by the testimony of a Dakota Hope client who, after completing the clinic’s Discover Peace After Abortion program, became unintentionally pregnant again. Initially fearful of making the same “mistake” and considering abortion, the woman shared how prayers, education, and support from Dakota Hope changed her path. Her story ended in joy with the birth of her daughter, and to the delight of the audience, the couple now happily married made an appearance at all three banquets.

Keynote speaker Jean Marie Davis shared her gripping story of how she fell into human trafficking as a teenager and was able to escape nearly two decades later with the help of a pregnancy center and her newfound faith in Jesus Christ In addition to speaking at the banquets, Davis engaged with students at Turtle Mountain High School in Belcourt, Tioga High School, and Our Redeemer’s Christian School in Minot

Clinic Director Nadia Smetana spoke to the crowd about her enduring hope for the future, despite challenges to protecting unborn life She highlighted three key reasons for optimism: the truth that women do not need abortion for health or happiness, the vital work of faith-driven organizations like Dakota Hope, and bold plans to expand the clinic’s outreach Dakota Hope’s goal is to change attitudes toward adoption and reduce unintended pregnancies —not by promoting birth control, but through education, compassion, and support

As the Minot Hot Tots prepare for their third Northwoods League season, the team has announced the hiring of Brian Lewis as the franchise's new field manager Lewis, the Hot Tots’ second field manager in team history, brings over a decade of collegiate baseball coaching experience, including multiple successful stints in the Northwoods League

Lewis is no stranger to the Northwoods League, making him an ideal choice to lead the Hot Tots in 2025 With eleven seasons of Northwoods League experience, he has made stops with both the La Crosse Loggers and the St Cloud Rox Lewis first joined the La Crosse Loggers as an assistant coach and was promoted to head coach in 2016, where he led the team for six seasons. Under his leadership, the Loggers posted a 198206 record and made a notable run to the Wisconsin/Illinois Region Championship game in 2020.

In 2022, Lewis took over as head coach of the St. Cloud Rox, where he had an immediate impact. That season, the Rox secured a playoff spot by finishing with the best first-half record in the Great Plains West division at 258. Lewis' first year saw the Rox achieve an impressive 50-win season, a significant milestone in Northwoods League history.

The following year, the success continued. The Rox finished the 2023 regular season with a 43-25 record, placing second in both halves of the season behind the Willmar Stingers. In the playoffs, however, St. Cloud swept Willmar to win the Great Plains West pennant. They carried their momentum into the Great Plains Championship, where they walked off Lewis’ former team, the La Crosse Loggers, advancing to the Summer Collegiate World Series Although they fell short in the final against the Green Bay Rockers, Lewis’ tenure in St Cloud was marked by consistent success and postseason achievements

Heading into the 2025 season, Lewis ranks fourth in Northwoods League history with a managerial win percentage of 539 His familiarity with Corbett Field, where he posted a 3-1 record coaching the Rox in 2023, gives the Hot Tots confidence that his winning ways will continue in Minot

In the offseason, Lewis is currently serving as the hitting coach at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort, where he is entering his second season with the Sand Sharks. Prior to his time on the Atlantic coast, Lewis was the head coach at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. With their new field manager in place, the Minot Hot Tots will now begin assembling their 2025 roster. Stay connected with the Hot Tots throughout the offseason for early introductions to the players who will take the field at Corbett Field next summer.
