Brekka Kramer, President | CEO of the Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC), attended the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) 2025 Annual Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 22–25 This premier national gathering brought together chamber and economic development leaders from across the country to share best practices, explore emerging trends, and strengthen the collective impact of chambers in their communities. The 2025 conference theme focused on innovation, community trust, and the evolving role of chambers in driving economic growth and prosperity.
A key highlight of the convention was the introduction of the Horizon2035 Report, ACCE’s forward-looking research designed to equip chambers with strategies and tools to anticipate and adapt to future challenges Conference sessions covered a wide range of topics, from membership retention and economic development to nextgeneration leadership and workforce strategy Breakout discussions encouraged leaders to identify early trends that could shape the next decade, ensuring chambers and economic development organizations remain agile and relevant in a rapidly changing environment
For MACEDC, these insights are directly tied to its core pillars of member investor, military support, workforce development, community development and economic development. The focus on strategic foresight and institutional trust-building aligns closely with the organization’s mission to serve as a reliable and proactive partner for business, military, and community stakeholders. Networking with peers from across the country also provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas on member engagement, talent attraction, and collaborative problem-solving.
“Chambers of commerce are among the most trusted institutions in their communities,” Kramer said “This conference reinforced the importance of that trust and provided tools we can use to amplify our impact in the Minot area By applying what we learned in Philadelphia, we can better position our community to thrive both now and well into the future ”

Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC)’s Economic Development Specialist, Mark Lyman, recently served on the project committee for the Regional Livestock Development and Planning initiative—an effort aimed at identifying strategic opportunities to grow animal agriculture in north-central North Dakota.
The initiative, led by the Souris Basin Planning Council (SBPC) and supported through funding from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, focused on planning and site analysis across Bottineau, Burke, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville, and Ward Counties. Each county, along with MACEDC, had a representative on the project committee In his role, Lyman provided ongoing guidance, reviewed project progress, and helped engage local stakeholders throughout the process
The planning team partnered with First District Association of Local Governments (FDALG) to conduct a detailed regional site analysis Sites were evaluated based on proximity to infrastructure, zoning compatibility, and state siting regulations The result was a mapped and ranked database of “good,” “better,” and “best” locations for potential livestock development tools designed to help counties proactively plan for investment in animal agriculture
Community leaders were first brought into the fold at kickoff meetings in May 2024, with preliminary findings shared throughout late 2024 and early 2025. The project culminated in the Livestock Development: Final Report & Future Planning event, held July 22, 2025, which presented key insights and encouraged regional dialogue around future development opportunities.
MACEDC is proud to contribute to initiatives like this that support strategic growth in our region’s ag economy and provide actionable tools for rural communities to attract investment and plan for the future.

Citizens Alley is open, and all are welcome to enjoy the newly renovated downtown Minot community gathering space The outdoor plaza, located on Central Avenue near First Street SE, is a vibrant addition to the area. Inspired by European cities and modern urban development in the U.S., Jessica Ackerman, Executive Director of Local Motives, the Minot-based nonprofit organization currently operating Citizens Alley, wanted to create an outdoor space for people to gather.
“When people fill the space, Citizens Alley comes alive,” Jessica said “Reimagining an underutilized space that is people-sized creates endless opportunities It’s a place for people to connect, collaborate, and get involved ”
While there are formal events planned for the space —including live music, art events, markets, outdoor movies, and a grand opening on Aug 11—people are invited to enjoy the space anytime. Murals line the alley, trees and flowers add welcomed green space, and stings of globe lights offer a bit of magical ambiance after dark. A pop-jet fountain is near completion and basketball and pickleball will be available soon, static seating will be installed, and lawn games are available for visitors to use; in the winter, a skating rink will fill a portion of the space.
“It’s great that we have four seasons to enjoy in Minot,” Jessica said “We know it is good for our health and wellness to be active, socialize, and get fresh air This space invites people to put their phones away and enjoy being outside whether riding ice bumper cars in the winter, meeting a friend for coffee in the spring, packing a picnic and some art supplies for a summer evening out of the house with the kids, or a fall date night listening to live music I want the community to imagine what this space can be and be part of bringing those dreams to reality.”
Citizens Alley’s redevelopment is part of a larger reimagining and revitalization of a portion of the block by Aksal Group and had support from a partial matching Destination Development grant from the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
“Citizens Alley is the result of a public-private partnership, community vision, and a belief that great places make great cities,” Jessica said “This space is also an economic development asset a place for employers to showcase to potential hires and hopefully inspiring businesses to locate downtown Citizens Alley signals to perspective residents and guests that Minot is a forward-thinking community that values connection, creativity, and quality of life.”
Join fellow community members on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, for the grand opening celebration from 4 to 7 p.m., and like and follow Citizens Alley on Facebook for upcoming event details.
