The City of Minot stood up and appointed the Childcare Committee in March of 2023, and the committee has been studying solutions to the childcare shortage ever since One of the quickest and easiest solutions brought forth was to develop a Child Care Resource Guide that would help parents, providers and employers a “one-stop shop” to find information
That’s what committee member Keli Rosselli-Sullivan with the Minot Area Chamber EDC set out to do. “This resources guide provides information and support that parents, employers and providers may be missing from the state level and the local level”, says Rosselli-Sullivan.
Finding or providing quality child care is a journey and we want to make it as easy to understand as possible. Whether you’re a parent seeking the best environment for your child or a provider working to deliver excellent care, this guide connects you with trusted resources, support services, and up-to-date information from a wide variety of sources
Inside the new Child Care Guide, parents will find information on how to find and choose child care, financial assistance programs, types of care in North Dakota, and help for Military and Department of Defense personnel
Providers and learn about tools to help navigate licensing, create quality, a guide for the community, and more From getting started to growing your child care business—or simply understanding your options as a family— this guide is the place to go. We believe strong communities start with strong support systems, and child care is at the heart of it all. Let’s work together to build a brighter future for the Minot area!
IMPOSTER
Our Minot Women Connect Committee had an amazing time hosting so many engaged attendees at Minot State University’s Aleshire Theater for their spring event!
Confidently You: Breaking Free from Imposter Syndrome brought together local leaders for a panel to discuss the struggles with feeling like you're not enough - whether it's in work or home life - and ways that we navigate those emotions of inadequacy despite having real achievements and skills.
According to Psychology Today, “people who struggle with imposter syndrome believe that they are undeserving of their achievements and the high esteem in which they are, in fact, generally held They feel that they aren’t as competent or intelligent as others might think and that soon enough, people will discover the truth about them ”
Psychology Today continued, “those with imposter syndrome—which is not an official diagnosis—are often well accomplished; they may hold high office or have numerous academic degrees. Instead of acknowledging their capabilities as well as their efforts, they often attribute their accomplishments to external or transient causes, such as luck, good timing, or effort that they cannot regularly expend. Whether in the areas of academic achievement or career success, a person can struggle with pressure and personal expectations ”
SYNDROME
The panel was moderated by Allison Bostow-Beuchler, Senior Vice President of Operations at iHeartMedia, and featured Ashley Beall, Attorney and Owner of Beall Law Office, Maria Ness, General Manager of Gooseneck Implement Mohall, and Kelli Kronschnabel, Chief of the Minot Fire Department, who shared their personal journeys, struggles, and triumphs over imposter syndrome, especially in industries often seen as male-dominated
We'd like to thank everyone who took time out of their day to attend, and express our immense gratitude to Hess Corporation and Xcel Energy for being our presenting sponsor. Such amazing opportunities wouldn't be possible without your help.

Gen. Thomas A. Bussiere, commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, activated Sentinel Site Activation Task Force (SATAF) Detachment 12 during a ceremony at Minot Air Force Base on, May 21. The event marked a crucial step in preparing the base’s infrastructure to support the establishment of the next-generation LGM-35A Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system, which will replace the LGM-35A Minuteman III ICBM system currently stationed across the continental United States
The Sentinel system is part of a comprehensive modernization program focused on providing a secure land leg of the nation’s nuclear triad for decades to come. All 400+ Minuteman III missiles are slated to be replaced by the new Sentinel missile system. The program will replace all key delivery components with updated technology. Although the missile and launch facilities are being completely rebuilt, the nuclear warheads themselves, which are provided by the Department of Energy, will remain unchanged in number, size, configuration and design.
The activation of Detachment 12 is a vital step toward ensuring Minot’s infrastructure is ready to support the next generation of ICBMs This activation comes amid ongoing construction and preparation activities at ICBM bases across the country The U S Air Force and its industry partners are continuing to execute the original Sentinel roadmap, including the establishment of SATAF detachments tasked with laying the groundwork for Sentinel support operations by overseeing and coordinating transition and establishment activities.
“The men and women of the 90th, 91st, and 341st Missile Wings rely on us to have a very coherent and disciplined transition plan between the Minuteman III and Sentinel weapon system,” said Bussiere. “This base is the center of gravity in our Air Force and our nation’s defense ”
The ceremony at Minot Air Force Base was not only a formal activation but also a symbol of commitment to strategic readiness and modernization. It highlights the dedication of both military and civilian personnel involved in the program, and the importance of collaboration between Air Force and industry teams
“I'm extremely excited to be back in the Minot community As a returning Roughrider, I know firsthand how critical this incredible community is to the strategic strength of Minot AFB,” said Lt Col Nicholas Conover, SATAF Detachment 12 commander “The dedication and partnership we share are essential to our success ”
As the Sentinel program progresses, its impact will be seen not only in technological advancements but also in the strengthening of partnerships within local communities such as Minot. The transition from Minuteman III to Sentinel signifies a generational leap in ICBM capabilities, ensuring that the United States’ most responsive leg of the nuclear triad remains safe, secure, reliable and strategically positioned in a rapidly changing global landscape

Kelly Loeffler, Administrator of the U S Small Business Administration (SBA), announced the launch of the Make Onshoring Great Again Portal, a free tool designed to help small businesses identify U S manufacturers and producers With a database of more than 1 million American suppliers, the searchable portal will empower job creators to source domestic suppliers to support their operations – which will in turn support American jobs, reconnect our supply chain with U.Sbased production, and end our nation’s concentrated dependence on foreign suppliers and adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party.
“The SBA is proud to support President Donald J Trump’s mission to restore America’s economic resurgence by empowering small businesses with the resources to supercharge the return of Made in America,” said SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler “The Make Onshoring Great Again Portal will give job creators a direct line to more than one million domestic suppliers – replacing foreign dependence with access to American-made solutions It’s a decisive step toward rebuilding our nation’s strength through stronger supply chains, better products, and a renewed commitment to American industry, small business, and workers ”
The SBA is working with several private-sector cosponsors to provide public access to three free databases representing more than 1 million U.S. based manufacturers, producers, and suppliers. Not only will the portal enable small businesses to support American industry and workers – it will also benefit job creators by helping them source domestic supply chains that will deliver shortened lead times, improved quality control, and reduced exposure to overseas disruptions.
The Made in America Onshoring Portal builds on the SBA’s ongoing commitment to revitalizing American industry. Earlier this year, the agency launched the Made in America Manufacturing Initiative, which is aimed at expanding access to capital for U.S. manufacturers, promoting a skilled workforce, and cutting $100 billion in red tape The agency has also endorsed recent bipartisan, bicameral legislation to double the SBA loan cap for small manufacturers in the effort to supercharge the return of American manufacturing dominance

The Minot Area Community Foundation (MACF) proudly announces the successful completion of Phase One of its 25th Anniversary Match Madness campaign, raising just over $170,000 for local nonprofit endowment funds between April 15 and May 16, 2025. The Match Madness Endowment Fund Challenge was designed to build long-term sustainability for nonprofits in the Minot region by encouraging donors to support participating organizations’ endowment funds Each nonprofit that raised at least $5,000 from outside donors during the challenge received a $5,000 matching gift from MACF into their endowment fund “We are thrilled with the incredible community response to phase one of Match Madness,” said Jason Zimmerman, President of MACF “These gifts will provide a lasting impact for our nonprofits, strengthening their ability to serve our region well into the future ”
A total of 12 organizations successfully met the challenge and received the $5,000 match: Dakota Hope Clinic, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Local Motives, Magic City Discovery Center, Men’s Winter Refuge, Minot Catholic School Foundation, Minot Commission on Aging, Northern Plains Children’s Advocacy Center, Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports, Souris Valley United Way, The Difference – A Holistic Approach, and The Lord’s Cupboard. Additionally, for those organizations that did not meet the $5,000 fundraising threshold, MACF made a surprise decision to still match all dollars raised on a dollar-for-dollar basis. These organizations include: F5 Project, Greater Minot Zoological Society, Minot Area Council of the Arts, and Minot Public School Foundation. In total, participating organizations raised $106,844.64, and MACF provided an additional $64,189.85 in matching funds bringing the grand total raised for nonprofit endowment funds during Phase One to $171,034.49.
“This effort was about more than just matching dollars it was about building a culture of long term giving ”
Minot State University has introduced a new Associate of Arts in University Studies degree, offering a strong foundation in general education along with courses tailored to students’ interests Designed for flexibility, this two-year program can serve as a stepping stone to a four-year degree or lead directly to career opportunities
“There are times when pursuing an education may be right, but the choice of a four-year degree may not be,” said Eric Pietrzak, Minot State academic advisor and university studies program contact. “Our lives, circumstances, and goals can change, and this degree gives our students’ education the flexibility to change with them. I’m excited for this new degree, and for the opportunity to help our students and community, wherever they may be in their educational journey, determine whether an Associate of Arts in University Studies is right for them as they pursue their career or academic goals ”
Minot State will bundle concentrations or certificates in high-demand fields to support students who pause their studies or transfer By selecting courses with an advisor based on career goals and transfer plans, students can improve job prospects and streamline the path to a bachelor’s degree.
Two concentration options are currently available: early childhood education and policing.
The early education concentration prepares students to work with children from birth through third grade in Head Start, daycare, and preschool settings Courses also align with Minot State’s Bachelor of Science in Education in Early Childhood Education
The policing concentration is ideal for students pursuing a career in criminal justice or professionals seeking to complete a degree The program provides foundational knowledge for the field and supports career advancement.
“The AA degree program provides a pathway for those who want to transfer to another university for a program not offered at Minot State and for others who realize a four-year degree is not a good fit for them,” said Laurie Geller, Minot State vice president for academic affairs “Either way, Minot State can support these students’ academic and career goals ”

Minot State University plated red clover as a cover crop on Tuesday, May 13, as part of the ongoing development of the Plum River Native Prairie at the former site of Erik Ramstad Middle School This initiative brings together environmental stewardship, Indigenous knowledge, and student-led research
The red clover was recommended by Ruth De La Cruz of Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College, who has been mentoring Patrick Baker, an environmental chemistry major at Minot State, through the CIRCLES Alliance. Red clover holds traditional cultural and medicinal value and offers agricultural benefits such as soil improvement and nitrogen fixation making it a fitting choice at this stage of the project.
“We’re excited to plant a crop that not only supports the soil but also holds cultural meaning and educational potential,” said Dan Conn, Minot State associate professor and chair of Education and Inclusive Services Department, and CIRCLES Alliance ND Primary Investigator “The team plans to harvest the red clover and develop a lesson plan for STEM educators, providing teachers with tools to incorporate local environmental science into their classrooms ”
This phase of the project is made possible through support from the following partners:
Souris Basin Planning Council: Supporting Patrick Baker’s daily work on the project
Ward County Soil Conservation District: Providing ongoing technical and educational guidance
Andrea (AJ) Limberger, USDA: Technical support and expertise
Chandler Gruener and Emily How, NDSU Extension Office: Assisting with soil testing and educational resources
Shon Naslund (Viterra) and Shane Naslund (Nufarm): Contributing planting equipment, agronomic expertise, and planting operations
Audubon Great Plains and Minot Public Schools: Continuing collaboration in the development of the Plum River Native Prairie
The native prairie planting is scheduled for fall 2025, before the ground freezes.

MINOTSTATECLIMBINGCLUBRETURNSINA BIGWAY
The Climbing Club at Minot State University has a story rooted in revival and student initiative. Though the club had existed previously under different names and goals, it had gone quiet for some time. The effort to bring it back began with Benjamin Bagwell ’22, the University’s coordinator of recreation programs, who encouraged the MSU Wellness Center Rock Wall staff to restart the club
That spark led students Bryer Samuelson and Shawn Bennett, both active in MSU’s Student Government Association and climbing, to officially reestablish the club last spring
Shortly after, a new leadership team was formed, and the club began to gain momentum. Its core mission has remained simple and powerful: to have fun, bring people together through climbing, and explore new experiences, both on campus and beyond
“As the club constitution says, ‘We Just Wanna Rock,” said MSU Climbing Club member Yoni Neyshtadt Today, the club hosts weekly meetings and climbing practices where members congregate, plan events, and enjoy free climbing time
One of the club’s major highlights is participating in the USA Climbing Collegiate Series, part of the Heartland Conference This year, members have traveled to Fargo three times and to Rapid City once for competitions Locally, the club hosts major events like the Mile High Challenge, where climbers aim to complete a vertical mile over a month, and the Prairie Peaks Competition The year will close with an outdoor climbing trip to Spearfish in South Dakota’s Black Hills, an amazing opportunity for members to try real rock climbing for the first time
“Rock climbing moved to an indoor setting fairly recently to give an opportunity for people to climb even if there is no hard rock in the surrounding area,” Climbing Club member Nikita Neyshtadt said “But going outdoors is still the best way to climb, in my opinion. Setting your own lines/rope, finding holds in the rock yourself, and feeling the breeze as you go up; nothing beats that feeling.”
Inclusivity is at the heart of the MSU Climbing Club. The group is open to everyone, regardless of skill level or experience level. The only thing required is spirit. For beginners, the club offers a welcoming environment to learn all the basics, while experienced climbers can test their skills, learn new techniques, and give advice to others. The MSU Wellness Center Rock Wall is regularly updated by trained staff, bouldering routes rotate about every month, and top-rope routes every two months, so there’s always something new to climb. Route setters also ensure a variety of styles and difficulties are available to challenge all ability levels
What also makes the MSU Climbing Club special is the strong sense of community Members form lasting friendships, share encouragement, and celebrate progress together Whether it’s hanging out at practice, traveling to a competition, or discussing route beta, the social atmosphere is the cherry on top “The laughs we share, even just on the road, make long drives pass quickly and make me look forward to club activities,” Nikita Neyshtadt said “In just one year, we have accomplished so much, and it starts with everyone’s buy-in and participation in the club ”
Looking ahead, the club is open to fresh ideas, such as hosting a Headlamp Night Climb at the MSU Wellness Center Rock Wall, and aims to keep expanding its reach and bringing in new climbers with the help of its enthusiastic members.
The club has already created meaningful experiences for its members. One club leader fondly recalled a personal climbing trip to Joshua Tree National Park, calling it unforgettable. Within the club itself, a favorite moment was the group’s first overnight trip to Rapid City, an exciting milestone that had adventure, bonding, competition, and perfect weather. As the Climbing Club continues to grow, it remains grounded in its mission to build a welcoming space where students can climb, connect, and challenge themselves together “It’s been really exciting helping people discover the sport,” said Bagwell

The Minot Area Community Foundation (MACF) is proud to continue its commitment to supporting veterans through two recent grants benefiting programs that honor and assist those who have served.
Earlier this spring, MACF awarded a grant from the Foundation’s Donald & Genevieve Roush Fund to support the Western North Dakota Honor Flight, which took a flight out of Minot International Airport in April 2025 The Honor Flight provides aging veterans living in western North Dakota primarily those who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Washington, D C , and the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice The MACF grant specifically sponsored the Welcome Home Ceremony, ensuring participating veterans received the recognition and gratitude they so deeply deserve
“It was a true honor to stand among so many heroes and help ensure they received a heartfelt welcome home,” said Jason Zimmerman, MACF President. “We’re proud to support efforts like the Western ND Honor Flight that give back to those who have given so much for our country.”
In addition, the MACF Impact Fund recently awarded a $30,000 grant for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, operated by Community Action Partnership – Minot Region. The program provides housing placement, rental assistance, and case management for veterans experiencing homelessness in our area.
This funding comes at a critical time, as the Minot region has experienced a growing number of homeless veterans Compounding the challenge, federal funding through the SSVF VA program distributed across the state has proven insufficient to meet local needs MACF’s grant will help bridge that gap by supporting the rapid rehousing and rental assistance components of the program, both of which are vital to helping veterans transition out of homelessness through a holistic, sustainable support model
“At MACF, we believe in meeting needs where they exist,” Zimmerman added “Whether it’s a dignified homecoming or a safe place to call home, veterans in our community deserve both We are committed to honoring their service not just in words, but through meaningful action.”

Minot State University and the MSU Development Foundation proudly announced the completion of a major milestone In just five and a half years, the EMPOWER Capital Campaign raised $54 8 million, the largest comprehensive fundraising effort in the University’s 112-year history
“The successful culmination of EMPOWER represents a tremendous team effort by all who have been involved with this campaign and speaks volumes about the incredible kindness and generosity of so many people who support Minot State University and our students,” said Minot State President Dr Steven Shirley
The EMPOWER Capital Campaign began with a feasibility study in June 2019, officially launched its quiet phase in July 2019, and closed on Dec. 31, 2024.
The collective commitment from the MSU campus, alumni, donors, and friends propelled the EMPOWER Capital Campaign beyond expectations, surpassing its $50 million goal. Initially set at $40 million during the feasibility study, which was a record-setting target at the time, the goal appeared ambitious, particularly as the University navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic However, the unwavering generosity of nearly 10,000 donors inspired Minot State to raise the goal in early 2022, ahead of the campaign’s public launch during Homecoming that same year
“We embarked upon the EMPOWER Campaign in 2019 with a goal of $40 million After pacing ahead of schedule, we increased our goal to $50 million and now, as we sunset this campaign, we are proud to celebrate nearly $55 million in gifts from thousands of generous alumni and friends,” said Rick Hedberg, Minot State vice president of advancement and the MSU Development Foundation executive director “While it was certainly an ambitious undertaking, it was the right course of action at this time, building upon Minot State’s remarkable legacy. Every student, faculty member, staff member, and department on campus has been positively impacted by this campaign, and this impact will continue for years to come.
“We can’t thank our generous donors and friends enough for all they have done to support our campus and students through this campaign. I offer my heartfelt gratitude to all of you.” The campaign was built around five pillars Scholarships, Academic Programs, University Facilities, Athletics, and the MSU Annual Fund.
With a central goal of enhancing student experiences, EMPOWER generated nearly $25 million in scholarship dollars, outpacing its projected goal of $18 million by 139% Scholarships accounted for 45% of the campaign’s total The University is pleased to announce that 171 new endowments were created during the campaign, growing MSU’s total scholarship endowments to 491 at the end of 2024
Minot State’s Annual Fund, which represents unrestricted dollars to offset immediate needs, raised $2 5 million, eclipsing its goal by 127% “The attainment of advanced learning and enhanced career skills is a cornerstone of higher education, and MSU’s ability to provide these high-quality educational experiences at an affordable cost is critical to our success,” Shirley said “The EMPOWER campaign, through the support of our incredibly generous donors, will ensure the outstanding value and quality of MSU’s education continues for countless future students. THANK YOU to all who supported the EMPOWER campaign!”
Academic Programs garnered $13.5 million, University Facilities $7.9 million, and Athletics finished at $5.2 million. Of the 9,741 unique donors, MSU saw 6,270 first-time donors during the campaign. In all, those donors made 43,426 total gifts to the University. During the five and a half years of EMPOWER, Minot State recorded five record-setting Giving Days and four record Annual Excellence appeals.
