Long before pumpkin spice everything, Fall had its own flavor defined around here by football games under the lights and extended patio conversations with friends and neighbors. There’s something about Fall in North Texas that, if you let it, can summon out the best in all of us. For me, it all starts after the long awaited dip in temperature from what I can only call Summer’s bonus round. Our first signs of golden leaves and sub 60 degree temps are just the excuse needed to hang up that collegiate dri-fit in favor of a well-worn university hoodie.
The nights to come may be a little darker, but thankfully, so too are the beers now making their way to taps and shelves across DFW. Our local craft brewers choose this time to start rolling out their most flavorful creations, trading everyday IPAs for sweeter brews layered with cinnamon, cocoa, roasted pecans — and yes, even a hint of pumpkin spice. Whether you choose a Snickerdoodle Ale from Dallas or the cozy confines of a Winter Warmer from Fort Worth, these beers invite us to slow down, sip and savor the many joys coming in the weeks ahead.
Thoughts of Fall for many come complete only after taking in its many changing colors. This time of year, Santa Fe comes alive with its own bright palette where golden aspens and adobe sunsets are as vibrant as the city’s festive culture. Add in the world-class culinary scene and “The City Different” is the perfect quick autumn escape built just for us.

J. TURNER THORNTON DIVORCE ATTORNEY, MEDIATOR
Expert Divorce Guidance For Southlake Families
Varghese Summersett Can Help Navigate Child Support And Custody
How much child support will I pay?
In Texas, child support is calculated using statutory guidelines based on the paying parent’s net resources. Typically, it’s 20% of net income for one child, 25% for two, 30% for three and up to 40%. Adjustments may apply depending on the child’s needs, additional children or extraordinary expenses like medical care or education.
What is mediation and how does it work?
Mediation is a confidential process where both parties work with a neutral third party to resolve disputes without going to trial. In Texas, mediation is often required before a family law case can proceed to court. It is cost-effective, private and allows parties to create their own agreements on issues like custody, property division and support.
Will my spouse get half of everything even if it's in my name only?
Texas is a community property state, meaning most assets acquired during the marriage are presumed jointly owned, regardless of whose name is on the title. Property owned before marriage, inherited or gifted specifically to one spouse is considered separate property but must be clearly proven. Simply having your name on something doesn’t make it yours alone.
Can I stop the other parent from taking the kids out of state?
If a court order exists, it may include a geographic restriction limiting where the child can live or travel. Without such an order, the other parent could relocate unless you act quickly by filing for a custody order or modification. Texas courts focus on the child’s best interests, and sudden or out-of-state moves without consent can be challenged legally.
How long will my case take and how much will it cost?
A Texas divorce must be on file for at least 60 days before it can be finalized. Contested cases often take several months to over a year. Timeline and cost depend on issue complexity, including child custody, property division and whether the case goes to trial. At Varghese Summersett, we help clients set clear expectations and provide strategic guidance throughout the process.

For Those Keeping Score Legendary
Carroll Scoreboard Gets A Second Life
Apiece of Carroll football history has found new life. Thanks to the dedication of Dragon alumni and s upporters, the original state championship scoreboard — once a fixture at the old stadium on Carroll Ave. — has been been lovingly recreated and now proudly stands in front of the new Dragon Stadium.
The original sign had weathered beyond repair, but thanks to the craftsmanship of sign-maker Curtis Pinson (Class of ’93) and the collaborative efforts of a Dragon Alumni group, an exact replica was produced. With full support from the Carroll ISD school board and head football coach and athletic director Riley Dodge, the project came together through a combination of volunteer work and fundraising. Alumni
handled everything from concrete pouring to electrical setup, ensuring the scoreboard would be a fitting tribute to Carroll football’s storied past.
A fundraising campaign initially raised $20,000 to cover construction costs, permits and landscaping, with any extra funds donated to the Dragon Touchdown Club to support future players.
The new sign is already in place, and while landscaping and lighting are still in progress, excitement is building for the planned update to the scoreboard’s bottom section in December. Carroll fans can now enjoy a striking reminder of the Dragons’ championship legacy — a perfect blend of tradition and modern pride.
Southlake Women’s Club is celebrating 40 years of service, friendship and community impact. Founded in 1985 by six women with a vision to give back, the club has grown into one of North Texas’ most respected volunteer organizations. From humble spaghetti dinners to creating Art in the Square — now a nationally ranked juried art festival — SWC has raised over $3.6 million for local nonprofits and contributed $600,000 to Carroll ISD schools. Its 40th anniversary luncheon and “Les Ladies en Blanc” fashion show honored decades of leadership and generosity.
PARK PLACE DEALERSHIP TO ANNOUNCE ‘GIVING’ GRANTS
Park Place Dealership pledged up to $100,000 in grants to North Texas nonprofits as part of its Season of Giving from October 1 through October 24, and grant recipients will be announced the week of November 17. Since its inception in 2021, Season of Giving has awarded $400,000 to 80 area charities. Last year more than 700 organizations applied, with 21 ultimately selected. “Season of Giving allows us to shine a spotlight on these groups and provide them with resources to continue their important work,” said Kara Connor, Community Engagement Manager.

CARROLL BAND PLACES 10TH AT MID-CITIES REGIONAL
The Southlake Carroll Dragon Band delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Dallas Mid-Cities Regional at Pennington Field, finishing 10th overall and 8th in Class AAAA. Scoring 78.2 in prelims, the Dragons impressed with averages of 15.55 in Music Performance, 16.15 in Visual Performance, and 46.50 in General Effect. Though they did not advance to finals, Carroll performed admirably against top Texas programs. Flower Mound claimed the regional title with an 87.200, followed by Hebron, Coppell and Wakeland, underscoring the high level of competition in one of the state’s most prestigious marching events.
CITY UNVEILS GARY FICKES WAY
The City of Southlake has honored one of its most influential leaders with the unveiling of Gary Fickes Way, a new street sign along FM 1938 recognizing the late former mayor and Tarrant County commissioner. Fickes, who passed away earlier this year at age 75, served as Southlake’s mayor from 1989 to 1996 and later as Tarrant County commissioner for 18 years. Known as the region’s “transportation guru,” he championed major projects like the $1.5 billion DFW Connector. His legacy of vision, collaboration and service continues to guide Southlake’s progress.
ALTRUSA LAUNCHES ANNUAL HOLIDAY HUNGER PROJECT
Altrusa International of DFW is rallying the community for its Holiday Hunger project, helping Northeast Tarrant County families in need. Red donation bags will be distributed December 6th and 7th in Southlake, Keller and Trophy Club, then collected December 14. Donations will be sorted and delivered to local agencies. Monetary gifts and online contributions are also welcome at altrusadfw.org.
Carroll head football coach Riley Dodge earned his 100th career win in dominant fashion on Oct. 9, as the Dragons crushed district rival Eaton 66-7. At just 36 years old, Dodge became the second-fastest coach in Texas history to reach the 100-win milestone — achieving it in only eight years and seven weeks. Since taking over in 2018, he’s built a 100–9 record with six district titles and two state final appearances. Led by QB Angelo Renda, WR Brock Boyd and a suffocating defense, Carroll continues to overwhelm opponents, outscoring
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Westlake resident Patrick Mahomes has launched "Mahomes Brand," outfitting 15 elite high school football programs across the country with exclusive gear, uniforms and his signature Gladiator logo. And among the carefully selected few? Carroll High School. With its storied legacy, the Dragons are now representing the brand on and off the field. The patch, made up of the letters P and M, is visible on several new items of Dragon football merchandise now available for online purchase.

The Wiles Family’s Mission To Uplift Others Through Business And Philanthropy
For Nicholas Gasperi Wiles, a serial entrepreneur, Southlake isn’t just home, it’s the foundation for everything he builds. Alongside his wife, Rileigh, and their daughters, Ariana and Stella, Nicholas has woven together a life that balances innovation, entrepreneurship and compassion. His family’s latest endeavor, the Stellari Foundation, brings heart and vision together through unity and action to uplift families in need.
The name Stellari is a tribute to his daughters — a combination of “Stella” and “Ariana” — and a symbol of hope. Established in 2025, the nonprofit was born from the Wiles family’s shared desire to demonstrate Christ’s love through practical help. Guided by the principle in Proverbs 16:3, “Commit to the Lord whatever your do, and He will establish your plans,” Stellari provides critical aid to families with chronically ill children and as well as to communities recovering from natural disasters through its three core pillars: the Children’s Medical Support Fund, Disaster Relief & Recovery and Community Resilience Programs.
This December, Stellari will host its inaugural fundraising event, the Guiding Star Gala, inviting the community to join its mission of compassion. The December 6th gala will feature dinner, entertainment, an auction and keynote speakers. Sponsorships and volunteer opportunities are available now at Stellari.co.
Beyond his nonprofit work, Nicholas leads several Southlake-based companies that reflect his passion for innovation and excellence. As founder & president of Lusso Labs Inc., he guides a team specializing in custom software development, AIdriven marketing and scalable digital solutions, notably turning six figures into nine figures with blockchain. His ventures also include Minerva Labs, a clinical diagnostics company providing rapid PCR-based testing for healthcare providers, now administering state-of-the-art exosomes right here
“Do the right work, with the right people, for the right reasons. Then give back. ‘Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. – Proverbs 16:3.’”
in Southlake; and Kronus Ventures, a Texas-based investment firm using AI-powered analytics to diversify across digital assets, commodities, real estate and venture capital.
Each enterprise shares a common thread: integrity, precision and a commitment to improving lives. The Wiles family has built not only thriving businesses but also a legacy rooted in service.
As Nicholas and Rileigh prepare for the Guiding Star Gala, their vision is clear: using innovation and compassion hand-in-hand to illuminate the path forward for families across North Texas and beyond.

PHOTO COURTESY ENGEL & V Ö LKERS HOME TOUR
Holiday Home Tour Returns With Festive Flair
For Southlake residents, the Engel & Völkers Southlake Holiday Home Tour isn’t just an event, it has become a holiday ritual. Returning December 7 from noon to 5 p.m., this beloved tradition invites guests to step inside four stunning residences, each transformed into its own vision of seasonal splendor
“This year’s event is brighter and bigger than ever before,” says Roxann Taylor of Engel & Völkers Southlake. “All four homes are decorated to the hilt.”
Part of the tour’s enduring charm lies in the fact that no two homes are alike. Each offers a distinctive approach to festive style. Expect everything from timeless, tree-lit elegance to modern minimalism accented with a little sparkle. One home might showcase chic, postmodern interiors punctuated by a single ornate centerpiece, while another might shimmer with ornate abundance, with every mantel, stair rail and windowsill wrapped in ribbons.
It’s impossible to leave the home tour without a few new ideas, like how colorful, mirrored ornaments can bring light to a calm, neutral room, how greenery can frame your mantle without cluttering it or how a simple fir-scented candle can set the holiday mood. Sometimes the lightest touches, like a mercury glass votive or a wisp of juniper, are a reminder that inspiration comes from appreciating beauty, even when it’s not your personal style.
Beyond the beauty, the Holiday Home Tour is rooted in generosity. Proceeds benefit The Gifting Project Southlake, which helps provide holiday gifts for local families in need, and Special Olympics Texas, supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state. Every ticket helps spread a little extra joy, both inside these stunning homes and far beyond them.
Conveniently located within a short drive of one another, the homes each offer a new perspective on what it means to make the season shine. Tickets are $40 per person and include access to all four homes, where guests can enjoy sweet treats and a festive surprise or two - maybe even a visit from Santa himself, if you’re lucky.

The Business Playbook Of Ray Mickens
BY TIM GLAZE
Ray Mickens (left) has become a prominent figure in airport foodservice franchising.
NFL VETERAN EXEMPLIFIES LASTING SUCCESS AFTER FOOTBALL
When the phone rang on draft day, Ray Mickens couldn’t help but flash back nearly three decades — to the call he received from the New York Jets in 1996.
Back then, Ray was the one pacing the room, heart pounding as his future in the NFL took shape. He eventually heard his name called by the Jets in the third round. However, this April, he watched from across the room as his son R.J. — a former standout at Carroll High School, team captain at Clemson and now a Los Angeles Char ger — answered the call of every football player’s dreams.
At that moment, the game came full circle. The same discipline, determination and drive that had once carried Ray to the league now lived on in his son. But for the now-proud father of an NFL player, the story has never been just about football — it’s about family, legacy and the lessons learned along the way.
From the roar of college and NFL stadiums to the bustling concourses of major airports, Ray continues to build a life defined by discipline, vi sion and giving back. A standout cornerback at Texas A&M and a ten-year NFL veteran, Ray has seamlessly transitioned from professional athlete to a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist and mentor who is inspiring the next generation.
STEPPING STONES
Even while making plays on the field, Ray was quietly laying the foundation for a career off it.
In 1999, while still playing for the Jets, he made a modest $15,000 investment in a small pretzel and popcorn stand his uncle owned at the Philadelphia International Airport. What started as a side venture soon became a hands-on education in the food and beverage industry.
On his days off, Ray would drive from New York to Philadelphia to meet with airport officials, study operations and learn the fundamentals of airport concessions — from staffing and leases to customer service and supply chain management.
That early curiosity along with his gridiron work ethic paid off. Within a few years, he launched his first pizza concept, followed by new opportunities to operate newsstands, a Starbucks and a Qdoba Mexican Grill at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Those early suc-

recently opened his first Smoothie King at DFW Airport, and has additional locations planned for other terminals.
Mickens
cesses laid the foundation for what would eventually become M2 Concepts, the hospitality and retail company he co-founded with his brother, Leonard, and dove head-first into after retiring from the NFL in 2006.
Today, M2 Concepts operates in nine airports across the country and manages 16 distinct food and beverage brands — including Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chick-filA, Pinkberry, Smoothie King and Qdoba. The company also has franchise and licensing agreements with Starbucks, Dunkin’ and Panda Express in airports all over the country.
Each expansion reflects the same mindset that once made Ray a respected NFL cornerback: preparation, consistency and teamwork.
BEYOND THE FIELD
A business and accounting major at A&M, owning a business had intrigued Ray since he was in high school. For many athletes, the transition out of professional sports can be disorienting, even overwhelming. Ray admits he faced his own challenges during that shift.
“I struggled, too — not monetarily, but mentally,” he said. “It’s tough changing careers, but I would say that the skills developed from many years of sports — leadership, teamwork, discipline and perseverance — definitely help in transitioning into a new career and season in life.”
One of M2’s newest partnerships, a Smoothie King in Terminal A at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, was particularly meaningful for Ray. As someone passionate about healthy living, he saw it not just as a business opportunity, but as a chance to bring nutritious options to travelers and airport employees alike.
Ray credits his academic background in accounting for giving him a strong foundation in business, particu-

larly when it comes to understanding financial statements and making strategic investments. Leadership, he added, transcends both football and business.
“Football and business are very similar,” he said. “Leadership starts with who you are as a person. Serving and inspiring others are traits that are valuable when building a leadership team, not just experience.”
When selecting business partners or investment opportunities, Ray agrees that integrity is non-negotiable.
“Quality over quantity,” he said. “I look for integrity and consistency. The reputation you carry means a lot. I’ll only invest in what I know or who I know.”
SOUTHLAKE: A COMMUNITY OF OPPORTUNITY
Being based in Southlake has profoundly shaped Ray's approach to business and community engagement. While he operates in several locations across the country, he sees the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a particularly fertile environment for entrepreneurs.
“Being in this area has really influenced me, just by seeing other business owners’ success out here,” he
said. “The family atmosphere and the various networking events truly make a big difference when you base your business decisions on relationships and trust. The people in this area, in my experience, have been genuine and willing to work together to help each other.
“It’s not always about what’s best just for you and your company — it’s about what’s best for our companies and communities, creating win-win outcomes.”
This community focus drives not only his business decisions but also his philanthropic efforts.
Ray believes in leveraging his success to make a positive impact locally and nationally. A commitment to community has been a central part of life since his playing days. In 2004, he established the Ray Mickens Champions Fund, a nonprofit that supports youth programs and educational initiatives. The organization partners with schools, youth groups and faith-based organizations to enrich the lives of young people, providing mentorship, resources and opportunities for personal growth.
Annual events like its Celebrity Golf Tournament and various football camps raise funds to support these initiatives, while also creating avenues for engagement and inspiration.
Even as an entrepreneur, Ray balances the pursuit of profitable opportunities with a commitment to his personal values and family life.
“Not all good deals are good for you,” he said. “You have to have patience. Even if it’s profitable but doesn’t line up with who I am, I will pass. I’m really conscious about not taking away from family time and being there
for my kids’ extracurricular activities.”
That philosophy extends to the way he builds his teams. For Ray, leadership is about more than credentials or experience — it’s about character and the ability to serve others. He encourages those around him to think beyond personal gain and embrace collaboration and mentorship.
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
The lessons Ray learned on the field — discipline, resilience and teamwork — continue to shape how he lives, works and gives back. Watching his son R.J. take the field as a Los Angeles Charger brought that journey full circle, a vivid reminder of the legacy he helped build both as a player and as a father.
At the same time, Ray channels a work ethic molded on the football field into his businesses, growing M2 Concepts into a thriving enterprise while staying rooted in Southlake.
But for him, success is measured less by numbers or contracts and more by the opportunities he creates for others, from mentoring young athletes and entrepreneurs to building teams guided by integrity and collaboration.
Whether it’s a big win on the field, a Smoothie King opening in an airport terminal or a kid discovering their own potential at a football camp, Ray’ life is rooted by the successes of those around him.
For Ray, the story has always been bigger than the game.

When The Temps Drop, Trade Your IPA Haze For Some Darker Daze
It’s no secret IPAs have claimed the craft beer crown. From Deep Ellum juice bombs to crisp West Coast hop machines, they’ve dominated tap handles and fridge shelves all year long. And while there’s no knocking a well-poured IPA on a warm Texas afternoon, the seasons shift. The sun sets earlier, the air chills and suddenly, that citrusy pint feels a little out of place.
Just when you’ve hit your bitter-max, craft brewers
across DFW thankfully start rolling out their seasonal heavy hitters. These aren’t just darker beers — they’re layered, inventive creations designed to be savored at a slower pace with close family and friends. Think cinnamon, cocoa, roasted Texas pecans, even pumpkin spice. They’re bold, comforting and perfect for sipping fireside, indoors and out.
Raise a glass to the cooler months — because in North Texas, beer season never really ends, it just gets sweeter.
Tempting Temptress Lineup
The legendary makers of the highly regarded Temptress have a bevy of imperial milk stout extensions brewing. The seasonals kick off with a Pumpkin Spice Latte that features cinnamon, clove and ginger flavors. But locals in the know can’t wait for Lakewood’s partnership with Dallas favorite Emporium Pies to start pouring in November. Their Pecan Pie stout gives drinkers a warm hug of pecans, vanilla and brown sugar steeped in espresso. Lakewood Brewing, Garland.
Holiday Cheer
When it’s time to put the tree up, it’s probably time to put down a bottle of this peachy-keen seasonal from the makers of Shiner Bock. This old-style Dunkelweizen is brewed with local Texas peaches and roasted pecans for a balanced, smooth sip that is not too sweet. Spoetzl Brewery, Shiner.
The Bombers
Firemans #4 blonde put Real Ale on the map. However, when the weather cools off, look for their lineup of bold “Bombers” to hit stores – and your palate – with wallops of dark roasted goodness. Enjoy a cold night with this warming flavor forward crew: Real Heavy Scotch ale, Sisyphus barleywine ale, Commissar Russian imperial stout and Black Quad all pack a punch of 9%-10.5% ABV. Best served seated by the fire. Real Ale Brewing, Blanco.
Snickerdoodle Ale
From crisp IPAs to a buzzing tasting house near The AAC, Community Beer Co. rules the summer. However, when the weather snaps, their cookie-inspired ale is ready for the spotlight. Flavored with cinnamon, vanilla and sugar this 5.2% ABV patio-pounder throws off cozy, comfort food vibes. Community Beer Co., Dallas.
Mocha Legion
This barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout hits hard at 13.3% ABV. Be sure to schedule a ride home as its sweet coffee and cocoa notes will have you coming back for more. Community Beer Co., Dallas.
Local 3113 Oktoberfest
In addition to local faves like Aluminum Cowboy lager and Miracle Wheat, whose proceeds benefit Miracle League Southlake, Grapevine’s finest brewery puts out a delicious Oktoberfest-style Märzen. The 6.1% ABV lager exudes a deep malt character balanced by a clean, hoppy finish. Hop & Sting, Grapevine.
Brewed right here in Southlake’s Park Village, Chef Braden Wages’ flavor profiles don’t end at the menu, they’re behind the bar, too. Although the inventive 3-C Porter is available all year long, fall’s long, cool evenings are the ideal time to enjoy these toasted coconut, chili and cacao Malai Kitchen, Southlake.
Winter Warmer
After two decades in business, Cowtown’s OG craft brewer may be on the move, but their dedication to English-Style Dark Ale remains faithfully intact. Winter Warmer is an 8% ABV hearty handshake to the holiday season with malted toffee, chocolate and dark fruit notes that can only be topped by its older brother, the 10% ABV Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer. Rahr Brewing Company, Fort
Bonus Pick: Pony Pils
Here’s a bonus pick, for the light-minded drinking tailgater in us all. The official beer of Mustang Nation, this light and crisp American Golden Lager pairs best with a touchdown reception from SMU tight end and Dragon alum RJ Maryland. Lakewood Brewing, Garland.
Healthy. But Make It Delicious. A Fresh Take On Fine-Casual Dining
For locals looking to venture beyond their usual haunts, James Provisions in nearby Hurst is worth the short drive. Just off Grapevine Highway, this chef-driven restaurant elevates the Mid-Cities dining scene with seasonal fare and a fine-casual atmosphere that’s approachable yet refined. Plus, there’s tacos.
Chef-owner Deborah Williamson, a North Richland Hills native, launched James Provisions after more than a decade of success with her Brooklyn restaurant, James. Returning to Texas, she created a space that champions wholesome cooking, local sourcing and a menu rooted in quality and sustainability. Every dish is free of seed oils and features fresh, natural ingredients, reflecting her belief that eating well is the foundation of living well.
The restaurant’s setting mirrors that ethos. A bright dining room and a shaded patio invites lingering over a meal. James Provisions also uses a hybrid service mod el — guests order at the counter and enjoy attentive table service — blending convenience with hospitality.
Though the menu shines all week, Taco Thursday has become a local favorite. The weekly special elevates the humble taco with creations like salmon with purple cabbage slaw and avocado, shrimp with summer toma toes and chili oil and fried chicken topped with salsa negra. At $10, the margaritas are equally tempting.
Williamson’s creativity shines all week long in every corner of the menu. Standouts include smoked carrot soup, grass-fed burgers, burrata salad, and inventive brunch offerings Friday through Sunday. Desserts such as berry oat crisp highlight the kitchen’s talent for turn ing simple, natural ingredients into memorable finishes.
Recognition quickly followed, with nominations for Best New Restaurant and Chef of the Year from the CultureMap Tastemaker Awards and honors from the Texas Restaurant Association. Still, what resonates most with guests is the genuine hospitality and thoughtful dining experience.
If you are seeking fresh, flavorful meals close to home, James Provisions delivers more than just food — it’s a community table where creativity and care come together. Photos by Gentl + Hyers

Spice & Soul Modern Indian Dining Shines At Sanjh
With its rich colors, elegant plating and fragrant aromas that draw you in, Sanjh Restaurant & Bar is unlike anything else in the DFW culinary scene. Bold and refined, the upscale Indian concept offers a modern take on traditional dishes, served with a side of storytelling, style and serious spice.
Led by Executive Chef Sarabjit Singh Assi, a protégé of India’s top kitchens, Sanjh is grounded in authenticity and elevated through fine-dining finesse. That means clay tandoors individually calibrated for meat, veggies and bread, a “Spice House” program that imports more than 40 whole spices from India and blends them in-house weekly and plating that transforms every dish into an edible work of art.
This month, the spotlight is on Sanjh’s six-week Festival of Lights celebration. Running through November 21, the Diwali-inspired menu lineup brings India’s most cherished holiday — a celebration of light triumphing over darkness — to the table in dazzling fashion. Offerings include a Festive High Tea with cardamom-spiced bites and fragrant chai, a prix fixe dinner experience with showstopping curries and layered desserts and beautifully boxed mithai (Indian sweets) that practically beg to be given as gifts.
“Diwali is a time when the table becomes a place of connection,” says Chef Assi. “Every dish tells a story — of tradition, of celebration, and of how Indian cuisine can keep evolving while staying true to its roots.”
But even outside of the holiday season, Sanjh brings the same attention to detail. Shareable starters like the Vada Bao or Galouti Kebab offer an inventive twist on Indian street food, while mains such as Meen Moilee and Mutton Rogan Josh highlight regional flavors rarely found locally. Cocktail lovers will also appreciate the bar’s infusion-forward approach, with drinks featuring homemade chaat masala, tamarind and Ceylon chili tincture.
Whether you’re dressing up for a date night or hosting a memorable gathering, Sanjh turns dinner into a destination, honoring Indian heritage while inviting everyone to the table. Photos by Samantha Marie Photography

High Desert Adventure Awaits At The Four Seasons
Rancho Encantado Santa Fe
Crisp air of the high desert foothills surrounds adobe homes aglow amongst the backdrop of smoldering Sangre de Cristo Mountain sunsets. This amazing landscape struck Georgia O’Keeffe during her very first visit in 1929. Many years and inspiring trips later the famed American artist would finally make the bright colors and rich Native American culture of the mountainous landscapes of Sante Fe her permanent home.
Nearly a century after her first visit, “The City Different,” is just as inviting. Here, you can wander countless art galleries, catch cultural festivals
and savor an award-winning dining scene - all while having access to a wide range of adventurous activities that range from hiking and biking to skiing and even hot air balloon rides. the youngest travelers get their own slice of the map: families can settle into the South Pacific area, complete with a freshwater Globe Pool, saunas and shaded cabanas. The design strikes a rare balance, keeping things serene for adults while still giving kids a chance to splash and explore.
Ranch Revival
Adobe architecture and stunning views meet fivestar tranquility across 57 acres of private land, just
ten minutes from the heart of downtown at Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe. Each of the resort’s recently renovated 65 casitas blends the old-world charm of pinon-burning fireplaces with modern luxuries like radiant heated floors and oversized soaking tubs.
The resort’s acclaimed Adventure Center acts as an onsite concierge hub with curated explorations ranging from archeological hikes to art-driven city excursions. Fans of the movie “Oppenheimer” will enjoy the resort’s Secret City of Los Alamos tour, where a scenic and informative drive leads to the sites where the “father of the atomic bomb” and his team lived, worked, and eventually brought their design to fruition. Active wellness seekers may enjoy the Journey to Abiquiu where only Four Seasons guests can enjoy an exclusive hike-to-yoga guided mediation session.
Adventures Beyond the Ordinary
With the crisp air and golden aspens, Autumn hosts a world of new experiences like the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in early October. Autumn is also the perfect time for mountain biking in Dale Ball Trails or exploring the centuries-old ruins at Bandelier National Monument.
By late November, winter shifts the scene. Ski Santa Fe, just 45 minutes from the resort, delivers snowy slopes framed by vast Southwestern skies. Beginners can take lessons, while seasoned skiers and snowboarders carve down
steep runs with views stretching to Colorado. Those who prefer a slower pace can snowshoe through quiet alpine forests or take the resort’s exclusive shuttle into downtown Santa Fe to explore historic chapels, unique shops and festive holiday markets.
The Arts and Cultural Capital of the Southwest
Santa Fe has long been revered as a world-class arts destination, and fall and winter only amplify the appeal. The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum celebrates the artist’s iconic desert visions, while the Santa Fe Opera and Lensic Performing Arts Center offer seasonal performances that bring global talent to intimate venues. Then there is the infamous Canyon Road which hosts more than 100 galleries and studios, showcasing everything from Native pottery to contemporary abstract work.
Local craft markets also brim with handmade jewelry, textiles and art, offering you the chance to bring a piece of the region home. Let’s not forget the culinary arts also reign with festivals like the Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta in the fall or the Traditional Spanish Market in winter that provide cultural flavor, literally and figuratively.
Savoring Southwest Cuisine
In between its culinary festivals, Santa Fe’s fine dining scene showcases the city’s unique cultural blend on a daily
porary take on Southwestern cuisine with patio vistas that are second to none. Start with a jalapeño infused margarita from The Bar before perusing a menu specializing in woodfired chile-rubbed steaks and locally sourced seasonal sides. No matter the entree you choose, a heaping portion of Terra’s decadent green chile mac & cheese is a must. Downtown, Market Steer Steakhouse stands apart and is the brainchild of two industry standouts with former ties to Dallas in co-founders Kristina Goode and Executive Chef Kathleen Crook. If anyone knows their steak, it’s Crook — she tended to her parents farm in New Mexico and then turned a collegiate rodeo scholarship into the title of World Championship Breakaway Roper in 1997.
In 2018, the duo opened Market Steer inside the historic Hotel St. Francis, honoring Crook’s ranching heritage with prime steaks enhanced with so many signature sauces to warrant a 9-part “sauce flight”. Keeping with flights, sommelier Tyler Rudoff leads a wine program recognized for its excellence in 2025 by Wine Spectator. Even the outpost’s Tack Room Bar offers the rich savory flavors of a wagyu washed Manhattan dubbed “The Grand Champion.”
Refined Relaxation Awaits
After days of adventure and exploration, relaxation takes center stage at The Spa at Rancho Encantado. The offerings gather inspiration from regional traditions, with treatments like the Turquoise Sage Renewal or Mountain Spirit Purification that soothe both body and soul. Outdoor heated soaking pools invite you to linger beneath endless desert skies, while fireside lounges provide cozy corners to sip wine and reflect.
From the curated art collection in the lobby to the storyrich textures of its décor, the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado Santa Fe is more than a luxury resort. It is a gateway into a city where every street, every flavor and every mountain trail tells a story. Whether you’re hiking among waterfalls, skiing fresh powder, dining on chile-kissed cuisine or lingering in the stillness of the spa, Santa Fe offers an elevated experience worth your while. Defying Gravity With Violinist Veronica Gan
Like many violinists, Veronica Gan dreamed of stepping into the spotlight. She just never imagined it would be shining 30 feet above the stage. For the Southlake resident, this chance ascent began with a call to perform at Jerry Jones’ 70th birthday party, which required playing Tchaikovsky while suspended above a star-studded crowd. The classically trained musician said yes without hesitation, launching an unexpected aerial violin career that’s been anything but conventional. Since then, she’s brought her breathtaking blend of classical music and aerial artistry to world-class stages, captivating audiences far beyond Texas. Back home, this Dragon mom balances motherhood and a fast-growing real estate career, all while continuing to wow local audiences as part of Cirque: Frost, playing at Glass Cactus through January 2026.
I STARTED VIOLIN IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL… just another kid in the Arlington school system learning an instrument. In music classes, I was told I’d never be successful because I wasn’t the most well-behaved student. Years later, when I was accepted into the New England Conservatory, I thought I’d proven them wrong. But even there, I felt overlooked. So now, soloing around the country with major orchestras feels like a quiet victory. It’s validation that talent doesn’t always fit neatly into the mold others expect.
MY FIRST AERIAL VIOLIN GIG… came completely by chance. I got a call about performing at Jerry Jones’ 70th birthday party — they needed a violinist willing to play while suspended thirty feet in the air. Everyone thought it sounded crazy. I said yes immediately.
THAT PERFORMANCE OPENED THE DOOR TO… a world I never expected: one that eventually led me to solo in front of major orchestras like the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, this time soaring above the stage instead of standing on it.
OFFSTAGE, MY LIFE LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT… but in many ways, it’s just as creative. I grew up helping my parents remodel houses, and that turned into a love for design and real estate. A home is kind of like a stage: every element matters, every change tells a story. Now that I’m licensed, I get to help people find or create the spaces that feel like theirs.
PLAYING IN THE AIR CHANGES EVERYTHING… your body, your sense of balance, your awareness of space. The first time, I realized how physically demanding it was and how much I loved the challenge. It wasn’t just music anymore – it was athletic, emotional and entirely new.
I FOUND MYSELF DRAWN INTO THE CIRCUS WORLD… surrounded by performers who could twist, flip and fly with a mix of grace and grit I’d never seen before. They became like family.
THE FIRST TIME I TRIED TO DO A PULL UP… on the silks, I didn’t move an inch. Three days later, I was still sore, but hooked. Aerial acrobatics is the hardest workout I’ve ever done – but the most rewarding.
THE CIRQUE WORLD PUSHES YOU… to blend artistry with athleticism. I’ve since performed everywhere from the Hollywood Bowl to arenas in Canada. Recently, I joined Cirque Frost at the Gaylord Texan, where I play the “ice queen” violinist surrounded by acrobats and dancers. The costume alone is a spectacle: bendable mirrors, electric blue accents everywhere, crystals catching the light. I serve as a thread that ties all the acts together, connecting their energy with the music.
MUSIC AND REAL ESTATE HAVE MORE IN COMMON THAN YOU THINK… both require flexibility, instinct and vision. You have to adapt, problem-solve and understand what people need before they do. Whether it’s a client or an audience, you’re guiding them toward an experience.
I GOT THE NICKNAME “ROCKET RONI”… after a show where I was literally launched off the stage, mid-performance. That nickname stuck, and honestly, I think it fits. It captures the essence of what I do – I’m always moving, flying, doing a little something wild.
TODAY, I’M FOCUSED ON BALANCE… between performing, parenting and my real estate work. It’s taken years to find peace in the chaos, but I’ve learned that every leap, literal or figurative, teaches you something. I’ve rebuilt homes, flown through arenas and soloed with orchestras, raising two Dragons along the way.
AT THE HEART OF IT ALL… is a belief that art and life are meant to move. Music, motion, creativity, even reinvention – they all feed each other. Every day brings a new challenge, a new project, a new trick to master. That’s what keeps me reaching higher.
