IN DANGER OF DISAPPEARING

Ft. Red panda Ft. Red panda Ft. Red panda

Red pandas, like giant pandas, are bamboo eaters native to Asia’s high forests Despite these similarities and their shared name, the two species are not closely related. Red pandas are much smaller than giant pandas and are the only living member of their taxonomic family. The red panda is slightly larger than a domestic cat with a bear-like body and thick russet fur. The belly and limbs are black, and there are white markings on the side of the head and above its small eyes. Red pandas are very skillful and acrobatic animals that predominantly stay in trees Almost 50% of the red panda’s habitat is in the Eastern Himalayas. They use their long, bushy tails for balance and to cover themselves in winter, presumably for warmth. Primarily a herbivore, the name panda is said to come from the Nepali word ‘ ponya, ’ which means bamboo or plant eating animal. Red pandas scent-mark territories using anal glands and urine, as well as scent glands located between their footpads. These scent glands on the bottom of red pandas’ feet exude a colorless liquid that is odorless to humans. The red panda tests odors using the underside of its tongue, which has a cone-like structure for collecting liquid and bringing it close to a gland inside its mouth

Red pandas are skilled climbers, using trees for shelter, to escape predators and to sunbathe in the winter. Their ankles are extremely flexible, and the fibula and tibia are attached in such a way as to allow the fibula to rotate about its axis These features make it possible for red pandas to adeptly climb head first down tree trunks. Red pandas are endangered. Their forest homes are being cut down, and poachers hunt them for their fur And their adorableness might put them in more danger, since they’re ideal targets for the illegal pet trade. The Red Panda Network is a nonprofit organization that protects red pandas and their habitat. They work with local community groups to establish wildlife corridors, train “forest guardians” to raise awareness about red pandas, and work with villagers to establish protected areas.

THE SECRETARY TEAM, MES ROTARACT CLUB

Warm greetings from the Secretarial team,

With the onset of the new year, the entire team at MES Rotaract Club had expectations of more vibrance and added enthusiasm among the members and the team alike to strive hard towards making a mark in the society by doing our bit of service along with a great amount of fellowship and bonding amongst us. We were definitely astounded by the amount of participation and involvement we came across in all our events conducted this month In spite of having our exams in line, we are extremely glad that they made time for the Club’s initiatives. After all the members are the ones that essentially run the club and take it up to its glory.

This month saw a wide array of events ranging from webinars that strengthened the basics required for future career opportunities as well as some events based on creating awareness about the multitude of unlawful acts happening in our society. However, we did ensure that the members do have their fair share of fun by hosting another wonderful episode of Chai Pe Charcha With age, we build more memories, that being said, we took a joyous ride down the memory lane by revisiting our favourite science related TV shows that helped us garner a lot of fun scientific facts. Let’s achieve greater things and prove our mettle together, with pride, as Team INARA! Happy Rotaraction!

Regards

Secretarial Team 2022-23

On the occasion of National Science Day, celebrated on 28th February, the club organised the screening of a compilation of a few science shows that were aired on the TV. The main intention of this screening was go on a trip down the memory lane and enjoy all the nostalgic shows like Science of Stupid, Mythbusters and FAQ. These were some shows which taught us many scientific facts by forgoing the barrier which made science intimidating. The participants indeed had a great time reliving their childhood through these shows. The purpose of spreading scientific knowledge in a fun manner was rightfully served through this event.
