Green Sea Turtles are the world’s largest species of hard shelled sea turtle. They are in fact named for the greenish colour of their cartilage and fat, not their shells. Weighing up to 700 pounds green turtles are among the largest sea turtles in the world. Their proportionally small head, which is non retractable, extends from a heart shaped carapace that measures up to 5 feet. Males are slightly larger than females and have a longer tail. Both have flippers that resemble paddles, which make them powerful and graceful swimmers. Unlike most other sea turtles, adult green sea turtles eat a primarily plant based diet consisting of seaweed and seagrass. These creatures are long lived and could live for at least 70 years or more. These turtles are found nesting along the coastline of more than 80 countries, with the largest nesting populations found in Costa Rica, Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Argentina, in the Mediterranean Sea, Indo Pacific and Australia.

Green turtles are listed as an endangered species. Despite this, they are still killed for their meat and eggs. Their numbers are also reduced by boat propeller accidents, fishnet caused drowning, and the destruction of their nesting grounds by human encroachment. In India, a large number of green turtles used to be captured in the waters of the Gulf of Mannar and off the coast of Tamil Nadu until the Wildlife Protection Act was enfor

Hello Rotaractors!

This month, as the team INARA completes its 4th month, I have seen the club reaching out to different arenas and bringing smiles on the faces of many. And connecting with people is what makes living on this earth merrier. I'm really proud to say, our projects are doing this job so well. RTR. DHRUTI PRASAD MES ROTARACT CLUB

Hey everyone, The past few months have been very eventful but October has been the best Covering all the avenues the club has had a very impactful month It started with a look into the 8 year journey of the club which reminded the team of how high our predecessors set the standards . I most await Chai pe Charcha. It is where I get my conversation starters from ! Annadatha 2.0 was a humbling experience. Break the Stereotypes introduced this month was true to the glamour of its name and helped two clubs push aside geographical boundaries and get closer together... Projects like these remind me of why I was so eager to join Rotaract With the registrations being open from November I truly hope our members find the sense of responsibility and companionship that I have found in Rotaract

Looking forward to having an impactful and an inspiring year

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic Andy Murray, Serena & Venus Williams. These names are the most heard around the world in the past two decades mostly because of what these athletes achieved. Moreso in India, even when I was growing up these were the only names I knew in the sport of tennis. But as I started watching tennis, my excitement and passion for the sport only increased and I know why. It is merely because of the way it is played and the locations at which it is played.

Tennis is governed by the International Tennis Federation and also the Association of Tennis Professionals more commonly known as ATP Tour and Women’s Tennis Association I.e., WTA. The players start of the tour in January in Australia’s summer and travel all over the world playing on various surfaces in various conditions and against the best competitors ever. The tour ends with the ATP Finals where the top 8 players who have won big during the tour compete to become the champion of champions. But what makes the tour interesting is the places at which tournaments are conducted. The events are divided into points such as ATP Challenger, ATP 250, ATP 500 and ATP Masters 1000. The numbers depict points that a player earns upon winning a tournament. The Grand Slams carry 2000 points each. These points help the player in securing a spot in the ATP Finals known as the Nitto ATP Finals and the WTA Finals. The tour starts on the hard surfaces of Melbourne where a couple of 500s are played and the OZ summer ends with the first grand slam tournament of the year, The Australian Open, usually played in the last two weeks of January. The tour next gets more exciting where players are drawn upon to play in Dubai, Rotterdam, Indian Wells in California and much more. Miami Open follows the Indian Wells Masters and that concludes the hard courts season. The clay courts season begins in Monte Carlo in Monaco with another ATP 1000 played and is followed by a 500 in Barcelona and two more 1000s in Madrid and Rome. The clay court concludes with the second grand slam tournament of the year I.e., Roland Garros more commonly known as the French Open played in Paris.Probably the surface which is tricky yet fun and amazing to watch is the grass court.

13
A S P O R T F O R A L L S E A S O N S

There are not many events on grass yet the most prestigious and oldest tournament in the world i.e., Wimbledon or traditionally known as THE ALL ENGLAND LAWN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS is played in London. Before that there are 500s played in London and Halle. The grass season merely lasts for a month and then the tour goes back to the hard courts where a lot of 250s, 500s and 1000s are played. The tour resumes hard court events in Shanghai, Cincinnati, Montreal, Paris and a host of other cities. The final grand slam tournament of the year I.e., The US Open is played in New York and that concludes the major chunk of the tournaments. By this time, it is August and there are 3 months left in the tour where many 500s and 250s are played and players will be looking keenly at the rankings as to who will be playing the ATP Finals. The Finals is usually played at different venues each year. It is played in London most of the times. Shanghai has been a host and Turin in Italy is the current host for the last event on the ATP calendar. Apart from the regular events, there are big events such as the Laver Cup and Davis Cup. Laver Cup is between Team World and Team Europe conducted in London as a tribute to the living legend Rod Laver where players are handpicked for both the teams in advance by their coaches. Davis Cup on the other hand, is the World Cup of tennis and is 122 years old.

All in all, the players start their tour from Australia and then travel across Europe and Asia for a while before returning to America and then Europe again. The ATP Tour is definitely an exhausting yet fun filled tour. Most of the time, the events are played in summers and that can get pretty tiring. The tour also has an off season that is usually in the month of December and again, players will be looking forward for a fresh start to the tour in the next year. As a tennis fan, you would want to be everywhere in the tour and merely enjoy the beauty of the locations at which the tournaments are conducted.
