FFor some health systems, the time and resources to plan for quality continuing education (CE) or onboarding programs is simply beyond their budgetary scope. When a facility doesn’t have programs in place, clinicians may be on their own to meet ongoing requirements or contact hours.

“Time and again, reps were hearing from accounts facing challenges onboarding and training new staff, as well as supporting the continuing education needs of staff clinicians,” said Geoff Kass, Director of Medline University. “More than anything, the creation of Medline University was the result of recognizing a need in the marketplace. It just so happened to coincide with the growing popularity of online education.”

Founded in 2008, Medline University is a free online resource for healthcare professionals. From onboarding new hires to helping meet annual training requirements, Medline University offers hundreds of free courses—more than half qualifying for CE credits. They’re also recognized by leading organizations including the California and Florida boards of Nursing.

Most Medline University courses are created in-house. Once course topics are chosen the team begins researching, creating scripts and producing the courses. They partner with divisions and departments throughout Medline to develop courses that address the most pressing issues course audience’s face.

In addition to meeting rigorous standards, Kass says learner experience and information retention is always top of mind.

“Our goal is to find ways to present information that is engaging and interactive so it brings lasting value to the learner and the facility.”

Medline University recently launched new offerings on workplace civility, expanded diversity and inclusion, and communications. The team is also developing micro-learning courses— 10-minute, mobile-optimized experiences for those seeking quick refreshers vs. deeper dives.

“Medline University is another way we differentiate ourselves from a traditional manufacturer,” said Kass. “Customers see us as an end-to-end, strategic solution provider; a real partner who takes a holistic view of their business.”
