Dear visitor, Finally, the Media Art Festival is back! Through change and uncertainty, art has helped us reconsider the world we knew, and to cherish hope, joy, and wonder. Almost two years since we last met, we are thrilled to illuminate Leeuwarden again with an exciting program of media and light art. In our Young Masters exhibition, 14 emerging artists from the Netherlands and abroad showcase their work. Here you will discover the most current trends and concerns in media art. Halfway through the festival, from September 30 to October 2, our stage expands into the heart of the city. LUNA Leeuwarden Urban Night Adventure brings breathtaking artworks to Leeuwarden, lighting up public space with colour and sound. MAF and LUNA will inspire you to rediscover your surroundings and reconnect with others - the magic of a festival we have so dearly missed. Our theme this year is HIER EN NU. In this time of transitions, we propose to take a step back and slow down: to think not only of the future, but also of the multiple paths already open before us. The discussions we hosted last year on the economics, ecology, and philosophy of here and now can be found online, on our website. Additionally, many artworks and special events in our side program touch on the power of experience, or on contemporary and local issues. By paying attention to the present, together we seek a different understanding of our times. We are delighted to be back, and we wish you many interesting and beautiful moments in the here and now of MAF and LUNA 2020/21!
