Outdoor Maintenance Reminders: If the weather has been dry, be sure to water trees, shrubs and perennials. Choose warmer days and remember to remove the hose from the spigot when you are done. Your lawn will need some moisture all winter long. If there is no snow cover, you should water dry areas about every 4-5 weeks especially:
Hills with a southern exposure
Areas subject to heat reflection from windows or reflective surfaces
Gutters are clear of fall debris, so water doesn’t freeze and backflow into the house.

SALT Craft Meat Market, opened fall 2022, is bringing local, high-quality meats to downtown Castle Rock. In addition to the best meats, SALT has a weekly rotating offering of specialty deli sandwiches and seasonal, grab-and-go meals. This locally-owned butcher shop will be your new favorite place to stop, whether you want a quick work day lunch, planning a nice steak dinner with friends, or needing a ready-to-go, wholesome meal to feed your busy family.
SALT Craft Meat Market is looking forward to connecting the community with local, sustainable farmers and ranchers. Owners and Colorado Natives Ralph and Jordan Hinton raise pigs on their farm nearby and are big supporters of local 4H and FFA youth. They’ve partnered with friends and trusted farms and ranches as suppliers for the butcher shop.
Stop by SALT and you’ll see a rotating lineup of specialty sausages they make fresh in-house, like green chile cheese brats, mango habanero brats, and even maple blueberry breakfast sausage. For real steak aficionados, SALT carries dry-aged individual steaks or you can even reserve a custom dry-aged beef rib or loin. Additionally, the market has a collection of seasonings, sauces, and sides to complete your meal.
Stop by SALT Craft Meat Market at 611 Wilcox Street in Castle Rock, at what will soon be rebranded as The Silo, previously known as The Victorian Center. Currently, their hours are Monday – Friday 10:00am – 6:30pm and Saturday 10:00am – 4:00pm. Click HERE to check out their website!
WhatifwetoldyoutheareathatisnowTheMeadowswasonce atropicalrainforest, aswamp, andevenrestedatthebottomof thesea?!Yep,youreadthatright!ArecentstoryfromtheDenver Museum of Nature and Science unveiled more proof of Castle Rock'suniqueformationalhistory:
"DuringwideningofInterstate25atCastleRock,CDOTworkers noticed big, black leaves falling out of the rock alongside the highway. The Museum collaborated with CDOT to excavate these incredible fossil beds, revealing one of the earliest rainforestseverdiscovered—about64millionyearsold. The discovery included fossil flowers, seedling cycads, and the pictured Artocarpus, a type of “breadfruit” that today lives in southeastAsia."
This discovery shouldn't come as a surprise considering The Meadows has a piece of this prehistoric history already, the Native Legend Open Space and Trail! On May 16, 2003, The Meadows unveiled five "Interpretive Learning Stations" that were designed in conjunction with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The locally quarried sandstone slabs stand distinctively in pairs that frame specific topographical features along this 4.6 mile paved trail. As you walk back in time, the exhibits tell a diverse story of the prehistoric conditions found in the area millions of years ago...
You'll learn that Castle Rock was initially part of a vast inland sea, then later one of the world’s greatest rainforests. The land you stand on was once an ocean, a tropical rainforest, and a prairie filled with mammoths, camels, and cheetahs! Later, the resultant death of dinosaurs in this area occurred when a meteorite impacted Castle Rock millions of years ago. The 25-foot thick area layer of rhyolite rock was once volcanic dust that spewed from Mount Princeton. In fact, Rhyolite is utilized throughout many of the Town buildings you see today!
