Spectacular celebration

Photos by Mitchell Weitzman

Cameron Park youngster Abigail Fass, left photo, smiles after taking her turn on the water slide at the Cameron Park Community Services District Summer Spectacular at Cameron Park Lake Saturday, June, 25. The event, back after two years off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, featured two live bands, food trucks and a fun zone for both kids and adults — all capped off with an evening fireworks show. Little Juniper Skaggs, a Cameron Park native, right photo, takes in her first Summer Spectacular with her grandmother Patty, who was visiting from Southern California.

Chloe Nilsen of Cameron Park, left photo, has a good time while waiting for the fireworks show. Cal Fire firefighters, middle photo, joined in the fun and kept an eye out in case any fires sparked following the fireworks show. From left to right are, James Novak, Mike Garrison, Josh Agustin, Brandon Barret, Justin Cooper, Justin Flowers, Greg Schwegler, Suzie Schwegler and Justin Finley. Sarah Shintaku, right photo, with daughter Riin and Julianne Pereira, from left, enjoy the event picnic-style.

Brian Ishmael’s memorial highway sign went up Monday.

Sheriff John D’Agostini and Sen. Brian Dahle spoke at the unveiling before two signs were mounted along the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 50 near Missouri Flat Road. According to a statement from the Sheriff ’s Office, the signs are placed on a strip of Highway 50 Ishmael drove regularly as a sheriff and Placerville police officer. “As you drive by these signs, please remember deputy Brian ‘Ish’ Ishmael and keep his family in your thoughts and prayers,” the statement concludes.
