OBITUARIES Wally Richardson

Oct. 19, 1923 – May 21, 2022

Wally Richardson (98 years young) passed away peacefully Saturday, May 21, with his wife Jenny of 64 years by his side.

Together they raised four children Linda Gargiulo (Dave), Deborah Campbell (Brian), Stan Richardson (Sandy) and Susan Lehner (T.C.)

Wally is also survived by his twin sister Virginia Dollarhyde and fi ve grandchildren; Jennifer Gargiulo, Sean Campbell (Kylie), Carlee Kensiski (Trevor), Dani Campbell and Connor Lehner (Corie). Wally was able to meet and hold his new great-grandson, Keegan Campbell, shortly before his passing.

Wally had a passion for fl ying from an early age. At 17 years old, he convinced his mother to sign for him so he could join the Navy. He was part of the fi rst convoy to Pearl Harbor after the bombing, working as a radio operator and used his free time to earn fl ight hours. During the Korean War, Wally was a Corsair pilot fl ying o the destroyer, the USS Boxer. When he passed Wally was one of the last two survivors of his squadron. After the war, Wally went on to fl y with United Airlines for 30 years, a dream come true. Along with fl ying, he worked in real estate and syndicated several partnerships, served in the Naval Reserves and retired as a Lt. Commander.

Another passion of Wally’s was the forming of the love and kindness movement with Jenny. He loved sharing his thoughts and wisdom with the kids, encouraging them to “always be kind whenever possible ... and it’s always possible!”

Wally’s face would light up when he saw the students. As he and Jenny passed out pens and bookmarks, Wally would share his Wallyisms, hoping to send a ripple of kindness into the world.

Wally will be remembered for his infectious smile, love of jokes, great work ethic, perseverance of his dreams and his ability to never meet a stranger. His memory will be cherished by his family and community far and wide.

Celebration of life will be held at Hills Church, 800 White Rock Road, El Dorado Hills Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

Mary K. Brancheau

Dec. 12, 1942 – June 23, 2022

Mary K. Brancheau, age 79 of Placerville, completed her life journey peacefully on June 23. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert H. and Marion E. Baglin; her son Gary J. Finley and the father of her children James A. Finley Jr.

She is survived by her husband John Brancheau of Placerville; sister Elizabeth Stefanich of Fresno, Calif.; daughter Teri Williams (Dean) of Boise, Idaho; granddaughter Sarah Winegeart (Karsten) of Austin, Texas; grandson Brian Williams of Boise, Idaho; nieces and nephews Beth, Tracy, Eric, Michelle and Anthony and numerous friends.

Mary Kay lived most of her life in Placerville. The Baglin family moved to the area in 1954 to purchase The Quality Shop, a fabric store located on Main Street in downtown Placerville. Mary Kay graduated from El Dorado High School in 1960. She attended Fresno State College and after marrying and starting a family in southern California, the Finley family moved to Placerville in 1972 to assume ownership of The Quality Shop when Mary Kay’s parents retired.

On June 22, 1985 Mary Kay married John Brancheau. The couple recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. During their marriage they enjoyed spending time together, with family and with their pets, as well as gardening, pizza night, movies and entertaining.

Mary Kay loved Placerville and was a vibrant member of the community, earning an AA in gerontology from American River College, volunteering for worthy organizations and for teaching classes in modeling, finishing, makeup, color analysis, ballet, manners and senior fitness.

From 1979-81 Mary Kay served as the director for the Maid of El Dorado beauty pageant. Many years later she was honored to be named the 2010 El Dorado Rose, a recognition of women over 60 who are longtime Placerville residents that have dedicated their lives to giving back to the community. At the time she was quoted as saying “The great thing about being a candidate for El Dorado Rose is that it honors the person you have become, not what you aspire to be.” To her family, friends and acquaintances she was an inspirational, positive, loving and giving person who made us all better for having known her.

How truly grateful I am to have a Mother who makes saying goodbye so hard. Rest easy in God’s loving arms. I love you my sweet Mother. -Teri

The family will announce a celebration of life at a later date. For information, to send a note, or to share a memory about Mary Kay, please email: mkcelebrationoflife@gmail.com.
