Winter at Old North State Club: North Carolina’s Seasonal Charm

Dear Members,

As we approach the winter season here in North Carolina, we’re reminded of the unique beauty this time of year brings to our region While we may not have the snow-covered landscapes of the North, our mild winter weather provides the perfect balance cool enough for cozy moments, yet warm enough to enjoy outdoor activities

At Old North State Club, we’re excited to offer a variety of experiences designed to help you make the most of this delightful season.

Seasonal Dining & Social Events

Our culinary team, led by Chef Kris, has created a special winter menu that reflects the flavors of the season with a Southern twist Be sure to join us for our Winter Wine Dinners starting with Cakebread Cellars on November 14 where you can enjoy expertly paired wines and farm-to-table dishes showcasing the best of local produce

As the holidays approach, our Annual Holiday Party is the perfect opportunity to gather with friends, share in the spirit of the season, and create lasting memories For families, we are also hosting our ever-popular Breakfast with Santa a fun and festive event for the young and young at heart!

Outdoor Activities: Mild Winters, Endless Possibilities

North Carolina’s temperate winters allow us to keep many of our outdoor amenities available. Golfers can take advantage of cool, crisp days to improve their game, with the greens still in excellent condition For tennis and pickleball enthusiasts, the courts remain open year-round

Winter Wellness

Winter is also a wonderful time to focus on well-being, and our spa is here to help you unwind and rejuvenate Treat yourself to one of our new seasonal spa treatments, designed to soothe dry skin and restore your natural glow Our fitness center continues to offer a variety of classes and personal training sessions to help you stay active and energized throughout the season

From all of us at Old North State Club, we wish you a joyous and peaceful winter season We look forward to seeing you at the Club, where we can celebrate the beauty of North Carolina’s winter together.

FROM THE KITCHEN A MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE CHEF

I hardly know where to begin. During my first 30 days at Old North State Club, the Membership has welcomed me with kindness and enthusiasm unlike anything I’ve experienced before. I want to sincerely thank each of you for making me feel so at home your warmth and support mean more than you can imagine

We started strong, hosting two major events within my first two weeks Now, our attention is turning toward elevating your dining experience New menus are on the way or may already be in your hands by the time you read this and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.

We’re introducing an all-day bar menu, and the kitchen will no longer close from 4:00 to 5:00 PM for dinner prep, allowing for continuous service throughout the day. Both our lunch and dinner menus have been completely reimagined to bring fresh flavors, seasonal ingredients, and the kind of Southern-inspired comfort that makes dining at ONSC truly special

As we continue transforming Old North State Club into a true dining destination, your patience and continued support are deeply appreciated

With the holidays right around the corner, our Food & Beverage team is ready to help make your celebrations effortless and delicious If you need any special food or beverage arrangements, please don’t hesitate to reach out we’ll be delighted to assist

I’m genuinely excited for what’s ahead and proud of the passion our team brings to every meal we serve

Thank you again for your warm welcome. I look forward to seeing you around the Club!

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Question: Is it really necessary for dormant TifEagle greens to be frost-free before play starts?

Answer: YES!

Frost is essentially frozen dew Ice crystals visible on the outside of the plant can also form on the inside of grass blades The grass plant, normally resilient to footsteps, becomes brittle and fragile when ice crystals form. Under the pressure of traffic, ice crystals puncture plant tissues and rupture plant cells, which destroys the leaf blade. Damage will not appear right away, but it will show up in footstep tracks in the following days as the plant is unable to repair itself and begins to die

Frost damage can occur on any turfgrass, including dormant bermuda, mowed at any height, but it is amplified the lower the height of cut Keep in mind, a foursome typically takes several hundred footsteps on each green, so even allowing just a few groups to play when frost is present can be very damaging to the greens and the rest of the golf course, for that matter.

It is not completely understood when frost will cause damage, so the decision to keep traffic off the golf course must be made conservatively for its protection

Best Regards, Chris Chapman Golf Course Superintendent
See you soon!

Best,

FRANKIE’S FITNESS CORNER

Consistency is the true driver of transformation when it comes to our health, especially as we age. Our bodies are designed to move, adapt, and grow stronger with regular use but they also decline quickly with inactivity When we commit to moving our bodies consistently, even through small daily habits, we activate powerful biological mechanisms that support longevity, muscle preservation, hormone balance, and metabolic health It’s not about pushing to the extreme or achieving a “perfect” routine it’s about showing up regularly and allowing the compound effect of those efforts to work in our favor Every walk, every lift, every stretch sends a message to the body: stay strong, stay functional, stay youthful. Over time, this consistency builds resilience, increases energy, and supports healthy aging in a way no quick-fix or sporadic effort ever can

It’s important to remember that progress not perfection is what leads to sustainable success Perfection creates pressure, but consistency creates momentum When we focus on just getting a little better each day, we allow ourselves to celebrate wins and build confidence. Hormones, muscle tissue, and even our mindset respond positively to this steady approach Especially as we age, consistency in movement helps protect bone density, preserve muscle mass, combat insulin resistance, and increase mobility all key factors in maintaining independence and vitality The goal isn’t to be perfect; it’s to be persistent Because the more consistently we move, the more our bodies reward us with strength, clarity, and longevity

A great way to stay consistent and also have fun, is to come to one of our fitness classes here at ONSC. We offer Strength & Stretch and now a "Core & Floor" class starting in November These classes are great for every fitness level Come and check out a class The first class is always free.
