NOTES FROM THE GM

Dear Members,

The past couple of months have been a whirlwind – what an exciting year of change for Cobblestone! First and foremost, I want to extend my sincere gratitude for the warm welcome you’ve shown to McConnell Golf, and to me personally.

Transitions always bring challenges, but together we’ve worked hard to make this process as smooth as possible, enhancing key areas along the way From improvements to the tee time system and clubhouse updates, to building a strong team ready to serve you our goal remains the same: to make your Cobblestone experience the very best it can be

Our most exciting news, of course, is the start of golf course renovations! Beginning on Black and moving to Garnet, we anticipate completion of the cart path and bunker project by April just in time for Masters Week Even better, Santa will be delivering our new fleet of golf carts earlier than expected! By spring, we know everyone will be eager to hit the course and enjoy these exciting McConnell Golf updates

In the spirit of camaraderie, connection, and creating memorable moments, we’ve packed the next few months with fantastic festivities! On the golf side, we’re gearing up for the Members Round Up Tournament & Banquet, Glow Golf Night, and the Superintendent’s Revenge plus our traditional Holiday Shotguns on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.

Beyond the course, the calendar is full of can’t-miss events! Join us in November for “Cooking with Chef” and our Fall Oyster Roast Gathering. December kicks off with our Ugly Sweater Cocktail Party featuring DJ Tommy, Santa’s arrival on December 18th, and our elegant Christmas Ball Don’t forget Chef Brandon will begin taking Thanksgiving catering orders beginning November 1st As we head into 2026, we’ll continue the fun with great winter happenings, including Music Trivia Night, Cozy Cocktail Evening, and our Valentine’s 4-Course Wine Dinner

On behalf of our entire team, I wish you a joyful holiday season filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.

We can’t wait to welcome the new year with you and continue creating unforgettable moments at Cobblestone Golf Club

Warm regards,

TURF TALK

Another year has flown by, and we’re all looking forward to those cooler temperatures ahead. This past summer was both hot and dry our course battled through two droughts, one in July and another in September, as our irrigation ponds dropped while we worked hard to keep the turf healthy. Thankfully, August brought some much-needed relief with over 10.5 inches of rain to recharge our ponds.

This fall, we completed our fertilizer and pre-emergent applications across all turf areas to help control winter weeds. Fresh fall flowers have also been planted around the Clubhouse and entrance beds, adding a welcome pop of color for the season. The new ryegrass on the Driving Range and Par 3 tees is coming in beautifully and received its first cuts in November.

Our maintenance team and I along with many of our members are especially excited about the renovation project that began in November A huge thank you to McConnell Golf for supporting new cart paths and bunker renovations on the Black and Garnet sides this winter These improvements have been on our wish list for years, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see them coming to life

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season We can’t wait to see you around the course!

Regards,

David Cavender

Cobblestone Golf Club Superintendent

Beginning Monday, November 3, we will launch a major project designed to elevate the quality of the course and set it apart from other facilities in South Carolina

The project will begin on the Black 9, where all sand bunkers will be rebuilt using Capillary Concrete liners and high-quality sand. We will also perform minor shaping to direct water away from the new bunkers, reducing washouts after heavy storms.

Another significant improvement will be the installation of new concrete cart paths The existing paths will be removed and replaced, with certain areas rerouted to bring players closer to landing zones Some tree removal will also be necessary to protect the new paths and ensure they last for years to come Anyone who has recently driven around the course knows this is a much-needed upgrade

Once the Black 9 is complete, we will move to the Garnet 9 for the same set of improvements Our goal is to have all work finished by early April, so that all three nines will be open and ready for the upcoming golf season.

Please note that during construction, the 9 holes under renovation will be closed to both play and walking. This is for everyone's safety, as heavy equipment and tree removal will be ongoing in these areas

McConnell Golf is committed to restoring Cobblestone to the level of excellence it once enjoyed, and this project is an exciting first step toward that goal

Thank you for your patience and support as we make these important improvements

Sincerely,

CGC buzz

The rain didn't stop our shine! The 2025 Alex English Celebrity Golf Tournament was an amazing experience When I met @alexenglish 803 earlier this year, I got to learn about him off the court, off the mic, just HIS story and what drives his passion behind community It's so honorable for a legend like himself to not only return home to where it all began, but give back! And to make the day even better, my dad was able to fly in for the tournament to play! His year was made!Thank you @letssharefoundation for the invite and opportunity

COOKIE OF THE MONTH

December: Chewy Oatmeal Cookies with Blueberries & White Chocolate Chips John Hanek, Executive Chef at The Water’s Edge Country Club

Ingredients:

2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

4 large eggs*

2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract

1 tablespoon molasses

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

6 cups old-fashioned oats

2 cups dried blueberries

1 cup white chocolate chips

Directions:

1 Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the softened butter and both sugars together on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes Add the eggs and mix on high until combined, about 1 minute Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed Add the vanilla and molasses and mix on high until combined Set aside

2 In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together Add to the wet ingredients and mix on low until combined Beat in the oats, dry blueberries, and white chocolate chips on low speed Dough will be thick, yet very sticky Chill the dough for 30-60 minutes in the refrigerator (do the full hour if you’re afraid of the cookies spreading too much) If chilling for longer (up to 2 days), allow to sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before rolling and baking

3. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.

4 Roll balls of dough (about 2 tablespoons of dough per cookie) and place 2 inches apart on the baking sheets I recommend using a cookie scoop since the dough can be sticky. Bake for 12-14 minutes until lightly browned on the sides. The centers will look very soft and underbaked. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. The cookies will continue to “set” on the baking sheet during this time.
