you soon,

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

I’ve noticed that the greens are slowly building a thatch layer and as a result are holding iron shots better. Thatch is a layer of living and dead plant material found between the green grass blades and the soil. It naturally builds up over time with leaves and stems growing, dying and being mowed It takes time for thatch to start developing in new greens but as it does the characteristics of the green will change There is a fine line however, too much thatch will cause the greens to be spongy and easily scalp when mowed at moderate heights As our greens age and build more thatch our topdressing program will increase to keep it in the preferred range for a high level of playability The course will be closed July 7-11 for greens aeration. Because our thatch layer is still minimal we will use a small solid tine to relieve compaction and promote root growth along with a moderate sand topdressing and verticutting. The greens will be very playable on the 12 and fully healed around the 22 . Enjoy the summer golf season! th nd
