All classes are available in English and Spanish. If someone is interested in registering, they can go to our Company Home page under Learning and Development or email crafttraining@mccarthy.com, Catherine Scott (cscott@mccarthy.com), or Miguel Lopez (mlopez@ mccarthy.com).
To expedite the assimilation of incoming Craft Professionals, this program was designed to provide both the new employee with a better understanding of McCarthy’s commitment to them and McCarthy’s expectations of them. This training is set to target new employees (with six months of experience or less). If requested, McCarthy supervisors will receive an assessment of the new employee’s base job identifier skills and abilities. Attendees will receive their OSHA 10 card at the end of course.
The instructor-led course aims to equip Foremen with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively plan and manage labor resources on projects. By the end of this course, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of labor planning principles, techniques, and best practices, enabling them to optimize workforce utilization, enhance productivity, and improve project outcomes. Thank you to Miguel Arguelles, Enrique Guizar, and Rana Snethen for delivering this course and driving the partnership between our Learning and Development Team and Operations.
Texas employees will have the opportunity to take Virtual ESL Courses to support their professional development. Trainings will be provided through Community Family Centers (CFC). There is not a cost to McCarthy for this course.
The first class begins on July 18 and is already full. However, future opportunities will be coming up in the future. Any additional partners or Craft employees that are Texas residents will be able to enroll in the ESL Course through CFC. Please have all request sent to our Craft Training email address CraftTraining@McCarthy.com.

Multiple Start Safe classes were held across the Southern Region, including one for carpenters, one in Channelview, and one in Atlanta.
The Southern Region also recently hosted a labor cost and productivity training.
Atlanta sponsored two students from the Cobb Innovation and Technology Academy to attend this year’s SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA.
Our Atlanta partners recently participated in Sandy Springs Education Force’s 13th Annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) Showcase. Throughout the event, our team showcased virtual design and shared about McCarthy.
McCarthy participated in the Brazosport Career Signing Day. 79 students were there to accept employment offers from several companies in the construction and petrochemical industry. The graduates heard from various speakers on the importance of work ethic. McCarthy signed CTE graduate, Joseph Dennis, for a shop hand helper position at our Channelview Yard.
Greg Willingham, McCarthy senior superintendent, and Murphy Chambliss, McCarthy assistant superintendent, recently discussed formwork and the various careers McCarthy offers with students in a construction course at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, GA.

Client Focus Highlight
Heart Hats
Community Engagement & Outreach
In 2019, the Atlanta Business Unit identified key markets and top clients to strategically focus on in order to build their presence throughout Atlanta. One of those clients was Piedmont Healthcare, a hospital system with multiple locations throughout Georgia with large capital improvement programs.
Since that initial meeting, our Atlanta partners have successfully partnered with Piedmont Healthcare on over 10 projects. Starting with some SSG work, the project teams used those opportunities to build deeper relationships which helped procure larger work over the past couple of years. In addition to executing at a continuously high-level, the teams have found other ways to show Piedmont how much we value their partnership. While focused on traditional Heart Hats projects in the past, this year our teams decided to show their support in a bigger way.
One of the hospitals where we are actively working hosted a “Concert for a Cause,” a charity concert to raise money for their NICU. McCarthy signed up to be the headline sponsor which allowed us to not only show our support of Piedmont but also gave us multiple opportunities to showcase our brand in one of our key communities. These branding opportunities included a billboard located near the hospital, McCarthy logo on all promotional items including the stage backdrop, and an opportunity for Atlanta Business Unit Leader Bobby Campbell to speak at the concert. The concert raised $54,000 for Piedmont’s NICU and continued to build on a stronger relationship with our key client.
The Atlanta Business Unit started a charity golf tournament in 2021, The Pink Ribbon Classic. The October tournament’s main goal is to raise money for Breast Cancer Research and proceeds are donated to a healthcare provider in Atlanta each year. In 2022, McCarthy donated their Pink Ribbon Classic proceeds to the Piedmont Healthcare Foundation.
As community builders, we continuously look for ways to support the communities in which we work. This work helps align our goals with our client’s while bettering the Atlanta area at large.

Are you having intentional Employee-Manager Connection Check-Ins? As we continue to focus on deliberate talent pool growth and culture of connection, EMC is key to help grow and develop our McCarthy partners. Below are a few quick tips to have meaningful conversations.
Check-ins are conversations to ensure alignment between employee and manager that drive the business forward.
Discuss expected result(s) that will positively impact the business.
Check-in conversations prior to transferring to a new assignment/ project are important to close-out priorities; comments can be added to SuccessFactors (SF).
Priorities are intended to have a 30/60/90-day focus.
Priorities are meant to be closed out /added throughout the year.
Check-in conversations on development plans are intended to help us get better and become well-rounded in our roles.
Discuss our Smart & Healthy Attributes for opportunities on development.
1-2 Development Plans for the year is sufficient and each plan should include activities that support progress.
Upon transferring to a new assignment/project, the new manager should continue to support the development.
The Southern Region has formed a Foremen Peer Group for the Region. The Peer Group trainings are held in Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, and Central Texas. The goal of the peer group is to cultivate a strong organizational culture, enhance communication, and provide developmental opportunities for our Foremen. This is an exciting step for the Region as we grow and develop our Craft employees, and work towards becoming the employer of choice. If you have any questions, please contact Dave Wallace.
We started this years intern advantage program with a kick off event in Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta. Our interns had the opportunity to network and learn more about their business units, key clients, MPFW and more! Throughout the course of the summer, they’re receiving plenty of opportunities to network, visit jobsites, and learn more about who McCarthy is. We’re getting excited to host all of our interns in Houston on August 1-2 for their close out event. Stay tuned to hear more!
Find, develop, and encourage strategic opportunities to add value to our projects that benefit the ESOP as well as our clients.

Educate region on career and growth opportunities associate with our specialty markets.
Expand regional resource planning to overlap with commercial resource planning.
Increase internal and external communications, through regional updates that celebrate successes and more consistent external communication on our markets that can be used at recruiting and industry events.
The number of opportunities that exist in the Renewables, Water/Waste Water, Marine, and Civil markets has not yet been fully captured by the Southern region to date. The Southern region is uniquely positioned to take advantage of these specialty market opportunities that offer a tremendous amount of value to our region not only because they are high in margin returns, recession resistant, and diversify our business, but because they also consist of high amounts of self-perform scopes of work that provide developmental and leadership opportunities for our Southern partners. Our team will focus on committing leadership resources for these markets and growing our presence and capabilities to meet our regional and national goals. Our team will meet our resource commitments by implementing a strategic recruitment plan focusing on the education of developmental and career opportunities for our internal partners as well as hiring external candidates specifically focused on the specialty markets.
Our civil teams recently broke ground on Cattleman II and Stoneridge projects. By continuing to do the earthwork on our renewables projects, our teams are able to increase our self-perform capabilities, provide flexibility during preconstruction/design, and increase the profit on these projects.
THE VISUALIZATION TEAM AT M c CARTHY IS COMPRISED OF INDUSTRY-LEADING 3D ARTISTS WITH A MISSION TO DRIVE CONFIDENCE, DIFFERENTIATE, AND CLARIFY THROUGH VISUAL STORYTELLING.
Viz primarily supports the pursuit process in creating logistics renderings showing the project site and other considerations. Combining information from multiple sources— and crafting a viewable result of the plan — drives confidence between teams and the client and creates opportunities for alignment through clarity of the process.
4D animations that display the proposed schedule and phasing of the construction sequence can be created. Our deliverables are strategically planned and designed with the client’s needs and concerns in mind.
Our national team combines its unique perspectives and diverse range of modeling and rendering software knowledge to create 3D animations, images, and virtual reality experiences to enhance visual communication deliverables.
In addition to the team’s digital capabilities, physical 3D printed and laser-cut models are another production option which often create a hub of interaction that can spark impactful conversations and collaboration.

The level of implementation and integration of VDC varies based on specific project risks and needs. Our VDC team is here to work with you to tailor and align VDC implementation to maximize its value to each project starting during the pursuit through closeout.
VDC and Viz worked together to deliver an exceptional client experience to the nurses at Beaumont Cancer Center. End users and project stakeholders used virtual reality (VR) to review and provide feedback on future areas of construction.
Reality capture services include point cloud scanning, 3D imaging, photogrammetry, photography, and videography. Deliverables document existing conditions, support design phase services, extrapolate critical data, and provide intuitive system trainings for end users and facilities maintenance.
Possibilities include scan to BIM, modelbased layout, model comparisons, and point cloud analysis. BIM and reality capture tools yield extremely accurate and valuable data for a quicker analysis of objects in real time, such as floor flatness and floor levelness.
VIRTUAL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION (VDC) IS INTEGRAL TO HOW WE PURSUE, DESIGN, PLAN, AND EXECUTE OUR WORK. VDC IS PART OF EVERY PROJECT PHASE AS IT HELPS PROVIDE CERTAINTY, ENGAGES PROJECT TEAMS VISUALLY, AND ENABLES SEAMLESS TRANSFER OF INFORMATION.
This is really a differentiator for McCarthy. I’ve never seen another contractor set anything like this up.
