Italia oro con Cazzaniga e bronzo con Bosca in discesa
Gold in Downhill for the Italian Cazzaniga, bronze for his compatriot Bosca
Grande Italia nella giornata d’apertura dello sci alpino alla XXVI Winter Universiade Trentino 2013, con un oro e un bronzo subito al collo del team azzurro nella discesa libera. Merito di Davide Cazzaniga, 21enne di Monza ma residente a Bormio ed iscritto all’Università di Sociologia a Como. Cazzaniga, campione italiano junior di discesa libera in carica, ha fatto registrare la migliore prestazione assoluta della giornata sulla pista Cima Uomo a Passo San Pellegrino, davanti al francese Blaise Giezendanner e all’altro italiano, il milanese Guglielmo Bosca, che frequenta invece la facoltà di Ingegneria al Politecnico di Milano. La pista proponeva un tracciato di gara con dislivello di 520 metri che gli atleti azzurri conoscono bene, visto che la Val di Fassa da otto anni è sede degli allenamenti della squadra nazionale italiana di sci alpino. In campo femminile è stato un trionfo delle sciatrici dell’Europa dell’Est con la russa Valentina Golenkova l’unica a scendere sotto il minuto e 18 secondi di gara (1:17.92), precedendo sul traguardo la slovacca Jana Gantnerova (1:18.04) e la polacca Karolina Chrapek (1:18.21). La migliore delle italiane è Gaia Martinelli, milanese che si allena però a Lecco, undicesima sotto lo striscione d’arrivo a 2.41 dalla vincitrice. Gaia frequenta l’Università di Lingue e Scienze della Comunicazione a Milano e ha sprecato un piazzamento migliore a causa di un errore sul tratto centrale pianeggiante. La gara maschile è stata una sfida italo-francese, visto che nei primi sei posti troviamo tre atleti per nazione. Protagonista assoluto è risultato Davide Cazzaniga, tesserato per lo Sci Club Lecco e capace di interpretare nel modo migliore un percorso particolarmente tecnico nel tratto superiore e più armonico nella parte finale. Grazie proprio alla sua fluidità e alla scorrevolezza nella parte bassa è riuscito a chiudere la sua prova con la prestazione di 1:13.00, staccando di 48 centesimi il francese Giezendanner e di 73 centesimi Guglielmo Bosca. Fuori dal podio i due francesi Nicolas Raffort e Nils Allegre, mentre in sesta posizione, con un ritardo di 1.43, si è piazzato Emanuele Buzzi, veneto di Sappada ed iscritto al primo anno della facoltà di giurisprudenza ad Udine. Sempre in chiave azzurra il comasco Michelangelo Tentori ha chiuso decimo, mentre Rocco del Sante è uscito a poche curve dal traguardo, dopo una buona prestazione all’intertempo.
Great performance of the host nation, Italy, in the opening day of the Alpine Skiing competitions of the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013. The Italian team won gold and bronze. Davide Cazzaniga (21), student in sociology in Como, is the current Downhill Italian champion. He showed the best performance of the day on the Cima Uomo slope in Passo San Pellegrino, followed by France’s Blaise Giezendanner and Italy’s Guglielmo Bosca, student in engineering in Milan. The Italians are well familiar with the slope with a 520m height difference, since Val di Fassa has been the training site of the Italian team of Alpine Skiing for eight years now.

Quella di Cazzaniga è la quarta vittoria in discesa libera per l’Italia nella storia delle Universiadi Invernali, dopo i successi di Bruno Confortola nel 1975, di Franco Marconi nel 1978 e di Igor Cigolla nel 1985. Domani, sabato 14 dicembre, sulla stessa pista è in programma il superG maschile, con partenza alle ore 10.
On the women’s side, the Eastern European athletes won all the three medals at stake: Gold to the Russian Valentina Golenkova – who was the only athlete with a finsih time under 1 minute and 18 seconds (1:17.92); Silver to the Slovak Jana Gantnerova (1:18.04) and Bronze to the Polish Karolina Chrapek (1:18.21). The men’s competition was marked by a French-Italian challenge with these two nations having three athletes in the top six. Today’s top protagonist was Italy’s Davide Cazzaniga (from Lecco Ski Club), capable to make an excellent race on the slope, very technical in its upper part and more harmonious in its final part. Cazzaniga crossed the finish line with a time of 1:13.00, with a margin of 48 hundredths on the French athlete Giezendanner and 73/100 on his fellow countryman Guglielmo Bosca. Cazzaniga’s victory is the fourth Downhill gold obtained by Italy during the various editions of the Winter Universiades, after the successes of Bruno Confortola in 1975, Franco Marconi in 1978 and Igor in 1985. On Saturday, December 14th, the same slope will host the race of the men’s Super-G, starting at 10.00am.

Davide Cazzaniga: “Nella parte iniziale ho faticato a trovare il ritmo, ma poi ho trovato la giusta determinazione e delle buone linee. Una giornata fantastica. Sono felicissimo ma non mi accontento e non ho nessuna intenzione di festeggiare perchè voglio ripetermi anche in superG. Dopo penserò alla festa”. Blaise Giezendanner: “Una medaglia alle Universiade è un risultato straordinario. Sono molto felice per il mio risultato, un po’ meno per la squadra. I miei compagni sono andati davvero vicino al podio. Sarebbe stato fantastico centrare una tripletta. Ci proveremo in superG”. Guglielmo Bosca: “Questa era la mia prima discesa della stagione: confesso che arrivare sul podio è un risultato straordinario. Complessivamente sulla mia prova non posso dire di essere soddisfatto. Ho sbagliato troppo nella parte alta del tracciato”. Valentina Golenkova: “Fantastico. Una giornata che rimarrà per sempre nella storia della mia vita. Ho sciato davvero bene con poche sbavature su una pista che pur non presentando pendenze eccessive è particolarmente difficile. Spero di ripetermi in superG”. Jana Gantnerova: “Sono felice per la medaglia d’argento. Certo che l’oro mi è sfuggito per soli 12 centesimi, vale a dire una piccola sbavatura. Ma va bene lo stesso perché ho sciato bene e con determinazione”. Gaia Martinelli: “E’ andata male, purtroppo. Ho sbagliato all’ingresso sul piano, frenando notevolmente, proprio nel punto peggiore. Nel finale ero troppo lenta per recuperare posizioni. Mi rifarò in superG”.

I am happy, but I ‘m not satisfied about my performance and I won’t celebrate because I really want to repeat this result tomorrow in Super G race. After that, I will think about having a party”. Blaise Giezendanner: “Winning a medal during an Universiade is an amazing result. I am happy with my ranking, a bit less for my team’s one. My teammates were really close to the podium. It would have been fantastic a triple top result. We’ll try with Super-G”. Guglielmo Bosca: “This was my first downhill performance of the year: this is a very surprising result. Actually, I am not satisfied on my overall try. I made too many mistakes in the highest part of the track”. Valentina Golenkova: “It was amazing! A day that I will remember forever. I skied really well with a few imprecisions on a track that even without too many downhill is quite difficult. Really hope to repeat this result in Super G”. Jana Gantnerova: “I’m happy with my silver medal. I missed the gold medal for just 12 hundredth, so just for a small imprecision. But it is anyway a very good result”. Gaia Martinelli: “Unfortunately, this was not a good performance. I hope to do better in Super-G”.

Bronze went to the Serbia’s Milanko Petrovic, very fast in skiing but penalized by four mistakes in shooting. “My concentration was very high - Kliachin said at the end of the race - I really wanted the gold medal but I knew the task wasn’t easy. On Sunday I will try to make it to the podium again in the sprint race”. On the women’s side, Natalia Prepokova started slowly, with one mistake in the first shooting session. However, the talented Slovak didn’t hesitate anymore and finished her race with a clear round. The Polish Nowakowska-Ziemniak and the Czech Landova had to content themselves with the last two places of the podium, however with a limited gap. Prekopova accomplished the 15km race in 47’38”, preceding by 14” the Polish Nowakowska-Ziemniak and by 21” the Czech Landova. “Despite my initial mistake - declared the winner - I’ve never lost my concentration, thing which is not easy on this track. I’m really happy and it would be fantastic to earn a spot for the Olympic Games in Sochi.”

Russia e Slovacchia a segno La XXVI Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 ha assegnato oggi le prime medaglie di biathlon in Val di Fiemme. Protagonisti di giornata sono stati il russo Sergej Kliachin e la slovacca Natalia Prekopova, bravi sia nel tiro dal poligono – solamente un errore a testa – sia nella parte sciata (20 km per i maschi e 15 km per le donne). Kliachin ha sempre tenuto il comando della gara ed ha chiuso la propria prova in 51’56”, precedendo di 1’31” il connazionale Aleksandr Mingalev, mentre il bronzo è andato al serbo Milanko Petrovic, velocissimo sugli sci ma penalizzato da ben quattro errori al tiro. “Ero concentrato al massimo oggi – ha dichiarato Kliachin al termine della gara – volevo l’oro a tutti i costi anche se sapevo che non sarebbe stato per nulla facile. Domenica proverò a salire sul podio anche nella gara sprint”. In campo femminile, Natalia Prekopova è partita con il freno a mano tirato, commettendo un errore nella prima sessione di tiro. Poi, però, la forte atleta slovacca non ha avuto altre esitazioni ed ha completato la propria prova con un percorso netto, costringendo la polacca NowakowskaZiemniak e la portacolori della Repubblica Ceca Landova ad accontentarsi dei due gradini più bassi del podio, con distacchi comunque contenuti. La Prekopova ha coperto i 15 km di gara in 47’38”, precedendo di 14” la polacca Nowakowska-Ziemniak e di 21” la ceca Landova. “Nonostante l’errore iniziale – ha commentato la vincitrice – non ho mai perso la concentrazione, cosa che su questo tracciato non era facile. Sono felicissima e sarebbe fantastico riuscire a guadagnare un posto all’Olimpiade di Sochi”. I migliori italiani sono stati Alberto Tagliati (55°) e Veronica Bessone (30°), lontani dalle posizioni che contano.

Corea e Polonia d’oro nel pattinaggio di velocità Si sono aperte nel segno di Corea e Polonia le gare del pattinaggio di velocità della Winter Universiade Trentino 2013, in programma sull’anello dell’Ice Rink di Baselga di Piné. Pronostici rispettati nei 5.000 metri maschili, dominati dal polacco Jan Marek Szymanski con il tempo di 6.32.47, che ha vinto così la medaglia d’oro, la seconda per la Polonia alle Universiadi trentine. Szymanski, quarto una settimana fa in Coppa del Mondo a Berlino Gruppo B (è 23° nella classifica generale), ha vinto la sua batteria precedendo di 1”63 il russo Evgeny Seryaev (6.34.10), quest’ultimo costretto ad accontentarsi della medaglia d’argento (anche a Berlino nella Isu Wrold Cup era stato preceduto dal polacco di pochissimo). Terzo posto e medaglia di bronzo per il Coreano Lee Jin Yeong (6.37.26) al quale non è bastato vincere la sua batteria con ampio margine sull’altro polacco Sebastian Marek Druszkiewicz, alla fine ottavo. “Voglio dedicare questa medaglia al mio primo allenatore Widsinski che attualmente si trova in ospedale, sono davvero vicino a lui in una battaglia difficile – spiega Szymanski, 24enne studente dell’University School of Physical Education a Poznan – Le Universiadi Invernali sono una grande occasione di sviluppo e crescita sia per il mio futuro sportivo che per la mia carriera professionale ed umana”. Nell’ultima batteria è sceso sul ghiaccio anche l’azzurro Andrea Giovannini, nato proprio sull’Altopiano di Pinè: nonostante una prova generosa, l’atleta di casa si è dovuto accontentare del settimo posto (6.42.21) a meno di 5 secondi dal podio. Ventiduesimo Andrea Stefani, l’altro azzurro in gara. Vittoria coreana, invece, nei 1500 metri femminili. Con il tempo di 2.02.19, Kim Bo Reum ha conquistato la medaglia d’oro, battendo di soli 14 centesimi di secondo la forte polacca Natalia Czerwonka, protagonista in Coppa del Mondo. La ventenne coreana iscritta alla Korea Sport University, inserita nell’ultima batteria, ha condotto una gara sempre al comando, incrementando giro dopo giro il proprio vantaggio e facendo registrare il miglior tempo (2.02.19). Medaglia d’argento a Natalia Czerwonka (Polonia), che ha chiuso con il tempo 2.02.33 ed è stata brava a superare nella propria batteria la russa Evgeniya Dmitrieva, una delle favorite della vigilia, che ha dovuto accontentarsi del terzo posto e della medaglia di bronzo con il tempo di 2.03.81.

Speed Skating Korea and Poland in gold Korea and Poland were the protagonists of the speed skating competitions competed on the Ice Rink of Baselga di Pinè. The forecast were right in the Men’s 5,000m, dominated by the Polish Jan Marek Szymanski in 6.32.47, leading Poland to its second gold medal. Szymanski, who did really well a week ago in the World Cup in Berlin Group B (23rd in the overall ranking), won his heat preceding his rival Evgeny Seryaev (6.34.10), winner of the silver medal. The Polish athlete crossed the finishing line before the Russian - the same happened in the ISU World Cup in Berlin. Lee Jin Yeong (6.37.26) won the bronze medal after he won his heat with a big advantage on another Polish athlete Sebastian Marek Druszkiewic. “I want to dedicate this medal to my first trainer Widsinski who is currently at the hospital, I’m close to him in this difficult battle - declared Szymanski, a 24-year-old student of the University School of Physical Education of Poznan. “The Winter Universiade is a big occasion for development and growth both for my future career as a sportsman and for my professional and personal career.” Kim Bo Reum won the gold medal in women’s 1,500m with a time of 2.02.19. She arrived only 14 hundredths of a second before World Cup regular Natalia Czerwonka from Poland. The 20-year-old Korean girl, currently studying at Korea Sport University, was in the last heat. She took command of the race since the very beginning and increased her lead, lap after lap, to finish with the best time. The silver medal went to Natalia Czerwonka from Poland who finished with a time of 2.02.33 and managed to beat Evgeniia Dmitrieva, lined up in the same heat and one of the favourites, who ended up in the third position and took the bronze medal with a time of 2.02.81.

Il Polacco Adam Cieslar vince la prima gara di combinata nordica
Nordic Combined speaks Polish with Cieslar’s victory
Vittoria in rimonta per il polacco Adam Cieslar nella prima prova della Combinata Nordica del programma della XXVI Winter Universiade Trentino 2013. Il 21enne polacco di Isebna, cittadina nel sud della Polonia, ha raccolto l’oro grazie ad una vincente rimonta nella frazione di 10km a tecnica libera di fondo dopo aver chiuso al terzo posto il turno di salti di questa mattina sul trampolino HS106 di Predazzo. Cieslar ha impiegato 6,6 chilometri per annullare il distacco di 25 secondi che aveva nei confronti del tedesco Johannes Raphael Wasel, al comando dopo la prova di salto. Negli ultimi due chilometri della gara, Cieslar ha imposto l’accelerazione definiva, arrivando da solo al traguardo con il tempo di 26:48.0. Alle sue spalle, staccato di 10,1 secondi, è arrivato lo stesso Wasel, mentre in terza posizione si è piazzato il giapponese Aguri Shimizu (+19.2), vincitore ad Erzurum della Mass Start e ieri solo settimo dopo il salto. Percorso inverso invece per il tedesco Tobias Daniel Simon, secondo dopo il salto e 19imo nella classifica finale. Adam Cieslar: “È stata una grande giornata per me volevo vincere e per questo ho dato tutto all’ultimo chilometro”.
Adam Cieslar from Poland is the winner of the first Nordic Combined competition at the 26th Winter Universiade Trentino 2013. The 21-year-old athlete from Isebna in the south of Poland, who competes also already in the FIS World Cup, was third after the Ski Jumping session on the HS 106 in Predazzo. During the 10km Gundersen race, however, Cieslar needed 6,6 kilometers to close the gap to the leader Johannes Raphael Wasel from Germany who was leading after the jumping and had an advantage of 25 seconds on Cieslar. On the last 2000 meters, Cieslar broke away and reached alone the finish line after 26:48.0 minutes. 10,1 seconds later, Wasel secured silver. Bronze went to the japanese Aguri Shimizu (19.2 seconds behind) who was the winner of the NC mass start competition in Erzurum two years ago. Germany’s Tobias Daniel Simon who was runner-up at halftime finished 19th in the final standing. “It was a great day for me” Adam Cieslar said. “I wanted to win and gave everything I had during the last kilometer”. Nordic Combined will be on at the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 on Monday, December 16th, when the Mass Start (10 km/HS106) will be carried out.

Ci è dispiaciuto non aver potuto partecipare alla cerimonia di inaugurazione, ma faremo di tutto per esserci alla chiusura. Discreta la prova degli azzurri Federica Bernardi e Chris Mior, ottavi con un parziale di 46.92, mentre decisamente sottotono la gara di Lorenza Alessandrini e Simone Vaturi, molto attesi alla vigilia, ma al momento solo noni con 45.99. Carron/Jones (FRA) 1° posto “Noi siamo felicissimi perché abbiamo pattinato di gran lunga la migliore short dance della stagione. Il pubblico era fantastico e in pista si respirava una grande atmosfera. Il ghiaccio era veramente ideale, veloce. Ci siamo sentiti veramente a casa qui a Trento anche perché da quest’anno viviamo a Milano per allenarci con Barbara Fusar Poli, la grande ex-campionessa del mondo italiana” ha affermato una euforica Pernelle Carron. “Per noi venire in Italia è stata una mossa vincente, perché qui abbiamo una grande allenatrice e le condizioni migliori per allenarci e soprattutto per migliorare” ha precisato Lloyd Jones. Comunque adesso vogliamo pensare a una cosa per volta e dunque siamo concentrati a far bene domani nel programma libero” ha affermato Ruslan Zhiganshin. “La cosa importante per noi, domani, è pattinare in modo pulito, poiché vogliamo una medaglia; dobbiamo pensare a non commettere errori e questo ci porterà sicuramente lontano” ha confermato Victoria Sinitsina. Prima sconfitta del torneo per l’Italia contro la Svezia, che coglie invece i primi tre punti dopo la sconfitta contro gli Stati Uniti. Dopo il 12-1 rifilato al Giappone nel match di esordio, il Canada mette a segno un’altra valanga di reti contro l’Ucraina. Sul ghiaccio di Cavalese, i nordamericani hanno travolto l’Ucraina per 11-0 (3-0, 5-0, 3-0), ipotecando la leadership del girone C. Una prestazione che conferma la squadra di Macdougall tra le favorite del torneo. Sorpresa nel match serale a Canazei, dove la Lettonia riesce a strappare un punto agli USA: dopo 60 minuti terminati sul 2-2, la contesa viene decisa all’overtime in favore degli statunitensi dal goal di Wendecker. Nel torneo femminile a Pergine, terza larga vittoria del Canada, che si impone per 13-0 sulla Gran Bretagna. In vetta alla classifica anche il Giappone (2-0), mentre la Russia ottiene i primi tre punti a Trentino 2013 con un pesante 15-1 alla Spagna.

CURLING Torneo di curling: prima vittoria azzurra Seconda giornata per il Torneo maschile e femminile di Curling alla Winter Universiade Trentino 2013, in corso di svolgimento all’Ice RinkPinè di Baselga di Pinè. Nel torneo femminile, nuova sconfitta per la squadra femminile che si arrende per 3-10 alla Svezia. Le azzurre Lucrezia Laurenti, Silvia Mingozzi, Giada Mosaner, Cinzia Ricca, Manuela Serafini, nell’unico match disputato quest’oggi si era portate sul 3-4, ma hanno quindi subito 6 punti consecutivi nel 6° e 7° end. Tre le squadre al comando del girone con Svezia, Svizzera e Russia ancora a punteggio pieno, con Gran Bretagna e Giappone a 2 vittorie. Nel torneo maschile di curling gli azzurri sono stati battuti in mattinata per 8-4 dalla Corea mentre in serata è giunta la prima vittoria per 10-8 sulla titolata Svizzera, dopo un match molto combattuto e deciso solo al 10° end, in cui l’Italia ha ottenuto due punti decisivi. Il team azzurro composto da Marco Pascale, Andrea Pilzer, Fabio Sola, Julien Michele Genre, Simone Gonin ottiene il primo punto in classifica dove comandano a punteggio pieno Canada e Svezia a 3 vittorie seguite da Gran Bretagna, Corea e Stati Uniti a 2 vittorie.
CURLING First Italian victory at the curling tournament During the second day of the Men’s and Women’s Curling Tournament at the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 at the Ice Rink Pinè di Baselga di Pinè, Italy lost against Sweden 3-10 in the women’s tournament. The leading teams of the round are Sweden, Switzerland and Russia with full score and Great Britain and Japan with two victories both. In the Men’s Tournament, Korea defeated the Italian team (8-4) on Friday morning. In the evening, Italy won ist first match beating Switzerland (10-8). The match was hard-fought and only at the 10th end Italy secured victory with two final points. Canada and Sweden lead the group with three victories followed by Great Britain, Korea and USA with two victories each.

I comitati organizzativi delle Universiadi Invernali di Granada 2015, Almaty 2017 e dell’appena nominata Krasnoyarsk 2019 stanno prendendo parte al FISU Observer Programme Trentino 2013, che consentirà loro di verificare sul campo i processi chiave e le operazioni principali per l’organizzazione delle loro rispettive manifestazioni. Il 13 e 14 dicembre, circa trenta persone dei comitati visiteranno le strutture dove l’Universiade si sta svolgendo e riceveranno informazioni dai manager delle aree tecniche dell’evento. Tutte le presentazioni hanno avuto luogo al centro universitario SanBa, quartier generale del Comitato Organizzativo Trentino 2013. Nel primo giorno di programmazione è stata rivolta particolare attenzione ai regolamenti FISU, al lavoro dei dipartimenti internazionali, al sistema degli accrediti, al marketing, ai servizi medici e all’anti-doping. Il secondo giorno prevede un focus su strutture, televisioni e sulla gestione dei volontari. Aleksandra Pilecka, Responsabile Internazionale delle Relazioni del Comitato Organizzativo di Granada 2015, ha dichiarato: “L’Observer Programme è molto utile per conoscere le fasi e le problematiche che incontreremo nell’organizzazione dell’Universiade. Non possiamo che evidenziare il duro lavoro compiuto dal team di Trentino 2013 nel preparare tale programma”. Ekaterina Peshkova, Vicegovernatore della Regione di Krasnoyarsk, ha condiviso l’opinione di Aleksandra: “L’importanza di questo programma è certa: noi non abbiamo nessuna esperienza e non sappiamo come risolvere alcune problematiche. Dunque possiamo capire come lavorare in maniera appropriata”. Sultanbek Syzdykov, Consigliere del Comitato Organizzativo di Almaty 2017, ha concluso: “La qualità delle Universiadi dovrebbe migliorare ogni anno e noi lavoreremo in questa direzione, basandoci proprio su tutta quest’esperienza”.
The Organizing Committees of Winter Universiade Granada 2015, Almaty 2017 and the recently selected Krasnoyarsk 2019 are taking part in the FISU Observer Programme Trentino 2013, which will allow them to check firsthand the key operations and main steps for the preparation of their respective events. Nearly thirty people of the committees are visiting during 13 and 14 December the facilities where the Universiade is being organised, and receiving information from the managers of the functional areas of the event. All the presentations have been developed in SanBa UniversityCenter, headquarters of the Trentino OC. At the first day of the programme, attention has focused on the FISU regulations, the job of the international departments, accreditation system, marketing, medical services and antidoping. The second day will focus on facilities, television and volunteer management. As Aleksandra Pilecka, International Relations Responsible of Granada OC explains:”The OP is very useful to know the steps and the problems we will face during the organization of the Universiade. We must highlight the hard work made by the Trentino team to prepare the programme.” Ekaterina Peshkova, Vice-Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region, shares Aleksandra’s opinion:”It is undoubtedly important. We do not yet have any experience – we do not know how to do certain things. So we can find out how to work in the right direction.” For Sultanbek Syzdykov, Advisor to the Organising Committee Almaty 2017: “The quality of the Student Games should improve with every year and we will work towards this. We will use this experience.”

L’uomo dietro l’atleta È Jörg Walcher il Cappellano dell’Universiade “Auguro a tutti gli atleti un’Universiade senza incidenti e imprevisti. Spero che tutti sapranno divertirsi, dimostrare quanto valgono e che l’evento si trasformi in una grande festa”, ha dichiarato il quarantenne Jörg Walcher. Ex snowboarder, ha partecipato all’Universiade Invernale del 2001 a Zakopane (POL). Oggi assume un nuovo ruolo all’interno di questo evento. Insieme al collega Don Daniele Laghi, Jörg Walcher è infatti il Cappellano dell’Universiade Trentino 2013. Nato in Austria, vive ora in Svizzera, dove è ministro spirituale da 10 anni e segue gli atleti che partecipano a vari Campionati del Mondo e Olimpiadi Invernali. Durante i Campionati Mondiali di Sci Nordico, Fiemme 2013 ha incontrato gli organizzatori della XXVI Universiade Invernale e quindi... Eccolo qua! A prima vista il suo ruolo può apparire superfluo. Tuttavia, se guardiamo con più attenzione, è assolutamente sensato. “Offro alle squadre e ai singoli il luogo e il momento per riposare”, ha spiegato Walcher. “In passato concelebravo messe ecumeniche con colleghi di altre confessioni ma in fondo il fatto di offrire il mio sostegno ai partecipanti non è legato ad una religione in particolare. Desidero essere al servizio della persona che sta dietro l’atleta”. “Forse l’Universiade non ha lo stesso valore delle Olimpiadi”, aggiunge Walcher, “Tuttavia è un evento di importanza indiscussa”, conclude. “Qui lo sport incontra l’istruzione e la scienza. I leader di domani si formano in occasioni come questa”. E Walcher stesso vorrebbe contribuire a fare in modo che la prossima generazione di leader non dimentichi la parte spirituale della vita e della società.
The individual behind the athlete Jörg Walcher is Chaplain of the Universiade “I wish all athletes an Universiade with no incidents and accidents, I hope that they will all enjoy themselves, that everybody can show his or her best, that it will become a great party”, 40-year-old Jörg Walcher said. He is a former snowboarder who participated in the 2001 Winter Universiade in Zakopane (POL) and who comes now back to this event in a new role. Together with his colleague Don Daniele Laghi, he is the Chaplain of the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013. Austrian-born Walcher who now lives in Switzerland has been in this spiritual position during the last 10 years and he follows athletes at different World Championships and Olympic Winter Games. During the 2013 Nordic World Championships, he got in contact with the organizers of the 26th Winter Universiade, and here he is! At first, his role may seem superfluous. However, looking deeper, it makes absolutely sense. “I am offering teams or individuals the time and room to find rest”, Walcher explained. “In the past, I also held ecumenical masses with colleagues from other confessions, but basically offering my service to the participants is non-denominational. I really want to be at the complete service of the person behind the athlete”. “The Universiade may not have the value of the Olympics Games”, Walcher says. “But the event is of undisputed importance”, he added. “Here, sport, education and science come together. Tomorrow’s leaders are formed on occasions like this one”. And Walcher himself would like to contribute to the fact that the next leader‘s generation doesn’t forget the spiritual part of life and society.

Q&A with Team GB’s curling women In the second day of women’s Curling action at the Winter Universiade in Trentino, we’ve caught up with defending champions Team GB. In Erzurum in 2011, they beat Russia 7-6 in the final, sealing the first ever Great Britain Universiade curling gold. They lost their opener against Russia (they also had lost their first match when they took gold in Turkey), then won against China, and yesterday against Japan. Who are your main rivals for the gold medal? “Everyone’s a threat; possibly Sweden and Switzerland, as they are unbeaten so far.”
What do you study at university? Abi Brown: Product Design at the University of Dundee (to May 2014). Jennifer Dodds: Fitness, Health and Exercise at Edinburgh College(to June 2013). Hannah Fleming: Business Management at Edinburgh Napier University(to October 2013). Lauren Gray: English Literature and Politics at the University of Glasgow (to September 2013). Alice Spence: Dietetics at Queen Margaret University (to May 2013) How do you like your experience here in Trentino? “It was quite difficult at the start, as the rink wasn’t ready so we missed some practices. But we were able to go to a local rink, and loved it. We’ve also done some exploring of the Baselga di Piné area. The weather is beautiful, the place is lovely and our hotel is comfortable too.”

Vincente nel 1959, presente nel 2013 Jeno Kamuti: “Grazie al Trentino” È uno di quelli che può dire: “Io c’ero”. È Jenő Kamuti, lo schermidore ungherese che alla prima Universiade, quella di Torino nel 1959, vinse l’oro nel fioretto. Un successo che poi avrebbe ripetuto altre tre volte: “Nessuno ha vinto quattro titoli”, confida sorridendo il 76enne magiaro che nel frattempo ha collezionato due argenti olimpici individuali e nove medaglie iridate, di cui una d’oro (a squadre) e sei d’argento. È alla XXVI Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 come medico della squadre ungherese, ma soprattutto come presidente del Comitato internazionale Fair Play. Il primo premio Fair Play venne assegnato ad un italiano, Eugenio Monti. Nel 1964, all’Olimpiade invernale di Innsbruck, l’azzurro prestò un bullone all’equipaggio britannico di bob che poi vinse l’oro. Due figli e cinque nipoti, Kamuti non solo fa ancora gare di sci fra i veterani, ma esercita ancora la professione medica. “Sono grato al Trentino e non solo a titolo personale – dice – Perchè si è accollato la responsabilità di organizzare questa XXVI Winter Universiade in così poco tempo”. Incontrato sul monte Bondone, dove si concede un po’ di relax tra una gara e l’altra, Kamuti non ha dubbi: “Il posto è bellissimo. E poi Trento non è solo una bella città ma è anche un’isola storica. Winner in 1959, present in 2013 Jeno Kamuti: “Thank you, Trentino” He is one of those who can say: “I was there!”. His name is Jenő Kamuti, the Hungarian swordsman who won the gold medal in foil at the first Universiade in Turin in 1959. He won it three more times: “No one has ever won it four times”, confessed the smiling 76-year-old Hungarian who, in his life, has also won two silver individual Olympic and nine World Championship medals - one team gold medal and six individual silver medals. He’s attending the 26th Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 as the doctor of the Hungarian team but especially as the President of the Fair Play International Committee. The first Fair Play award in history was awarded to the Italian Eugenio Monti. In 1964, at the Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Monti lent a bolt to the British Bobsleigh team who won, that day, the race. With two children and five grand-children, Kamuti is still skiing among the veterans, but he keeps also working as a doctor. “I am grateful to Trentino. Not only for me – he said – because the LOC has accepted the great challenge of organizing this 26th Winter Universiade at the very last minute.” He’s staying at Monte Bondone, where he chills out between two competitions. Kamuti has no doubt: “The resort is wonderful. Trento is not only a marvellous city but it is also a land of history. An atmosphere that takes you back through the centuries. In fact, the Council of Trent in 1545 was held right here.” As President of the Fair Play Committee, he has a wish: “I’d like to give a diploma of sportsmanship: to the Ice Rink of Trento (Palaghiaccio) for example, where the public applauded and encouraged the athletes who fell down while performing their figures. But I expect to see other examples of fair play.”

Le Universiadi invernali sono un esempio di sostenibilità ambientale ed economica perfetta! Per costruire le strutture in legno (Edificio TV, passerelle in legno, Strutture del trampolino, oltre 50 totem informativi della A22 e lungo le valli) sono stati utilizzati 1.200 metri cubi di legno (abete rosso e larice), tutti provenienti dai boschi locali e certificati PEFC del Trentino, che impiegheranno tre giorni per ricostituire la biomassa legnosa utilizzata.
To build the wooden structures used by the Winter Universiade were used around 900 cubic meters of timber (this amounts goes to 1200 cubic meters if we include the waste wood material, which will be recovered in the local biomass heat plant and then converted into clean energy). This figure is certainly important, but the local PEFC certified forests need only three days to regenerate the same amount of timber used in this event.

Manfrini: “Ho gareggiato con un pezzo di vetro nel piede” Ha gareggiato con un pezzo di vetro nel piede! E ciò nonostante si è classificata sesta e prima delle italiane nella gara di snowboardcross che ha assegnato la prima medaglia della Winter Universiade Trentino 2013. Giulia Manfrini, 25 anni (Cus Torino) se ne è accorta solo 24 ore dopo la fine della gara. Forse questo spiega il suo risultato: “Ci tenevo a migliorarmi – ha confidato al termine della gara vinta da Eva Samkova (Rep. Ceca) – ma purtroppo non ci sono riuscita. In Cina ero arrivata decima, in Turchia sesta e qui volevo fare meglio”. “Avevo rotto un’insalatiera di vetro – ha spiegato l’atleta piemontese – e dopo aver spazzato ho pensato bene di girare scalza per casa... Non una buona idea: pensavo di essermi levata tutti i frammenti, ma evidentemente non era così. Nei giorni scorsi avvertivo dolore al piede e pensavo dipendesse ancora da quelle ferite. Questa mattina (venerdì) però non riuscivo più camminare. Poi ho scoperto che mi era rimasta nella pianta ancora una scheggia di 3-3 millimetri”. Dopo la prova di giovedì, Giulia Manfrini allo snowpark del monte Bondone era stata applaudita dal “suo” presidente, Riccardo D’Elicio, responsabile del Centro universitario del capoluogo piemontese. Manfrini, che si è laureata da poco con 100/110 in giurisprudenza, non ha perso la calma si è concessa una serata rilassante presso l’hotel Montana assieme alla compagna di squadra, la bolzanina Greta Felder (14°). In estate Manfriniinsegna surf in Algarve, in Portogallo, mentre in inverno dà lezioni di snowboard a Cesana.

That wasn’t a good idea: I thought I had removed all the glass pieces, but clearly I hadn’t.” My foot was hurting the following days and I thought the pain was due to some injuries. Today, in the morning (Friday 13th), I was not able to walk anymore. Then I found out that a 3x3 large fragment of glass was still in my foot.” After her performance on Thursday 14th, at the Snowpark of Monte Bondone, Giulia Manfrini had been praised by “her” President, Riccardo D’Elicio, in charge of the University Centre of Turin. Manfrini, who graduated recently in Law, with a good mark, spent a relaxing evening at the Montana Hotel with her team-mate from Bolzano, Greta Felder (14th). During the summer, Manfrini teaches surf in Algarve, Portugal, while during the winter, she is a snowboard instructor in Cesana.

MUSE – Vivere l’avventura della scienza Il nuovo MUSE Museo delle Scienze di Trento – inaugurato alla fine di luglio – propone un modo innovativo di confrontarsi con il pubblico, che è il vero protagonista della visita. All’interno del MUSE, infatti, il visitatore può interagire con exhibit multimediali, giochi interattivi, ambienti immersivi, sperimentando in prima persona e intrecciando la cultura col “fare pratico”. Attraverso strumenti di apprendimento informale, studiati per raggiungere tutte le fasce di età, il MUSE racconta le meraviglie dell’ambiente alpino e della natura che ci circonda, toccando al contempo temi di interesse planetario, come lo sviluppo sostenibile e la conservazione della natura e lanciando uno sguardo verso il futuro. La forma dell’edificio disegnato da Renzo Piano richiama il profilo delle montagne circostanti e ordina e scandisce il percorso della mostra permanente: dall’alto verso il basso. Dal quarto piano, i visitatori passano dalle vertigini provate affacciandosi sul “grande vuoto” centrale all’avvincente esperienza del percorso all’interno del “labirinto di biodiversità alpina”. Diventano così piacevoli e facili da comprendere le tappe della formazione delle Dolomiti, la nascita delle Alpi e, con le età glaciali, l’ingresso delle prime comunità di cacciatori-raccoglitori e la progressiva formazione dei paesaggi. Il percorso naturalistico si conclude al piano interrato con un racconto che parte dall’origine della vita, per giungere, infine, alla più grande mostra di dinosauri dell’arco alpino. Questo percorso, che mette in luce la dimensione naturale del territorio alpino, si affianca ad un percorso in orizzontale, che produce una dialogo tra Alpi e resto del mondo, tra sensibilità locali e impegno globale.

Through informal learning, devised specifically to appeal to all age groups, MUSE explores the wonders of the alpine environment and the natural world that surrounds us, at the same time touching on issues of global interest, such as sustainable development and nature conservation, with an eye on the future. The jagged form of the building designed by Renzo Piano recalls the profile of the surrounding mountains, organising and subdividing the itinerary of the permanent displays: from above to below. From the fourth floor, the visitors go from the dizziness felt when looking over the “great void” in the centre to the absorbing experience of the route through the “labyrinth of alpine biodiversity”. Thus the different stages in the formation of the Dolomites, the birth of the Alps and the arrival of the first communities of huntergatherers in the ice age, with the progressive formation of landscapes, are interesting and easy to understand. The naturalistic itinerary concludes on the basement floor with a story starting from the very origins of life, terminating with the biggest display on dinosaurs in the alpine area. This itinerary, which highlights the natural dimension of the alpine area, proceeds alongside a horizontal itinerary, discovering the dialogue between the Alps and the rest of the world, marked by local sensitivity and global commitment.
