Arvoisa lukija!

Halusimmepa tai emme, keinoäly on tulossa koteihimme, ajoneuvoihimme ja työpaikoillemme päätähuimaavaa vauhtia. Mitä todennäköisimmin se alkaa kohta tehdä runsaasti päätöksiä puolestamme, kuten Skynet aikanaan, vapauttaen meidät mukavampiin ja tärkeämpiin harrastuksiin kuten esimerkiksi: saunominen, laiskottelu tai kahvittelu.

Siispä minäkin päätin kokeilla, kuinka hyvin keinoäly pärjää Lukijalle-tekstin tuottamisessa päätoimittajalle. Latasin koneelleni ChatGPT:n ja koska tämänkertaisen Materia-lehden teemana on Savo-Karjala alueen alan teemanumero, annoin sille yksinkertaisesti tehtäväksi: ”Please write an article about mining and metallurgy cluster in Eastern Finland”. Ohjelma otti tehtävän mukisematta vastaan ja lausui seuraavaa:

Aika hyvä ja positiivissävyinen teksti siltä tuli, enkä löytänyt tekstistä asiavirheitä, puhumattakaan kielioppivirheistä. Tosin teksti on kyllä hieman passiivinen, persoonaton, yleistasoinen sekä itseään toistava. Itse olisin kyllä ainakin osoittanut kohdealueelta esimerkiksi yliopistoja, lahjakkaita työntekijöitä sekä firmoja oikein nimeltä.

Jatkoin vielä hetken tuon ChatGPT-ohjelman kanssa leikkimistä ja kysyin sen tietämystä lempiaiheestani: liekkisulatuksesta. Tämän keinoäly kehui olevan erinomaisen ympäristöystävällinen, tehokas ja kokonaistaloudellinen sulatusmenetelmä. Menin sitten vielä kysymään samaa reverbisulatuksestakin ja yllätyksekseni vastaus oli lähes identtinen. Tuli mieleeni, että eipä ole turhaan mediassa viime aikoina painotettu ihmisten medialukukykyjen tärkeyttä, varsinkin jos edellä mainitun kaltaiset tarinageneraattorit alkavat syöttää meille ”tietoa” kun oikeat toimittajat haluavat tehokkuutta työskentelyynsä.

Tässä lehdessä on kuitenkin vielä erinomaisia, ”oikeiden ihmisten” kirjoittamia artikkeleita Savo-Karjalan alueelta. On hienoa havaita, kuinka paljon Itä-Suomessakin on erinomaisia alamme toimijoita, alihankkijoita sekä koulutusta.
