THE EDIT
THE BOOK YOU WISH YOUR PARENTS HAD READ
BACK TO SCHOOL
With straight-talking advice from renowned Psychotherapist Philippa Perry, this book is the definitive guide for any parent looking to navigate their past, avoid repeating their own parents' mistakes, and ensure they don't land their own kids in therapy. Through the combination of case studies, her own experiences as a parent, and therapeutic insight gained from a career spanning over 20 years, Perry tackles the wider issues of what it actually means to be a parent, rather than getting bogged down in the little details.
HOW TO BE THE GROWN-UP
Drawing on her years of experience as a clinical psychologist, as well as her growing and dedicated social media community, Dr Martha Deiros Collado's first book is the must-have toolkit for any parent. With humour, boundless energy, wit and warmth, Dr Martha tackles it all; from how to talk about honesty and lies, death, co-parenting, consent, gender, attachment, boundaries, and tantrums, as well as the small but critical day to day challenges parents face. And she explains why beneath each dilemma, it's the behaviours and scripts we learned as children that shape the parents we become.
POSITIVE BIRTH JERSEY
POSITIVE BIRTH JERSEY PROVIDES PARENTS AND BIRTH PARTNERS WITH KNOWLEDGE, TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES TO BUILD POSITIVITY, STRENGTH AND CONFIDENCE IN PREGNANCY, BIRTH AND PARENTHOOD.
LORNA'S BIRTH STORY
Thanks to Positive Birth Hypnobirthing classes, I learned to write my birth preferences, which empowered me to have my say in my deliveries and aftercare. It also allowed my husband and I to meet and spend time with like-minded couples having babies around the same time. These couples are now our friends, whom we see weekly while we watch our babies grow up together. Wednesday afternoon, two days after my due date, I began having surges. They came and went, with no pattern, and were so mild. I enjoyed a big dinner and an early night, thinking I'd have my baby in the next 12 hours. The following day, the surges continued. I used all the tips discussed in Hypnobirthing to get the oxytocin flowing! I walked around Gronez (it's very uneven around there!), had a big lunch at El Tico, and then returned home as the surges picked up. I parked myself in our bedroom and watched Disney films while frantically bouncing on a birthing ball as my husband recorded the surges on the Freya app. By 5 p.m. on Thursday, the surges were becoming intense. I was confident I was at least 5cm dilated, and we headed into maternity. We were taken to a room and left to settle in. My husband made it feel like home by unpacking our things, displaying fairy lights, and turning on the diffuser. A midwife came and checked and told me I was only 1cm! However, within 4 hours, the surges increased, and I was again asked what I wanted - I replied, "I want to go home!"... they call this 'the transition'! Due to a heart condition, it was recommended I have an epidural, although, after two attempts, it didn't
work. Thankfully, I had gas and air to get me through! By 5am Friday, I was 10cm dilated, my waters broke, and with just two pushes, my daughter flew into the world at 5:20am. Bringing Elurrá straight to me, I felt so proud.
Although I laboured naturally with Elurrá, we decided that an elective C-Section would be the safer choice for the delivery of our second daughter. This decision was made with the support of a consultant and anaesthetist. These professionals not only helped us discuss our options but also ensured they'd be responsible for my care on the delivery date.
Using the knowledge and advice we received at the Hypnobirthing course we did two years ago, I was able to write my birth preferences for my C-Section. I arrived at Maternity on a Tuesday morning at 7:30am; I was taken to a bed on a ward and told we'd be heading to theatre at 9am. The anaesthetist and consultant visited me to review the plan we'd discussed and check if I was happy and well.
At 9am, my husband and I made our way to the theatre; it was so comforting to see the consultant and anaesthetist there; I felt so safe and calm. At 9:50am, our baby girl, Goldie, entered the world. Our wishes and preferences for my C-Section and aftercare were all carefully considered and valued during the delivery.
Thank you, May and Jan at Positive Birth Jersey, for empowering and educating us on two of the biggest life events we've ever had!
LISA'S BIRTH STORY
Ihad the best possible birth I could have wished for, and I will be forever grateful for the magnificent midwifery team. We are so glad we decided to do the Hypnobirthing course beforehand. My whole birth experience, from start to finish, was over in 7 hours in the comfort of my own home with a wonderful team supporting me.
I never thought before completing the Hypnobirthing course with May and Jan that we would be the sort of people to have a home birth. By the end of the course, I was desperate for a water birth but still leaning towards the hospital; however, 10 days before my due date, when it was looking like the pools in maternity weren’t up and running, we decided to get the community midwives around for an assessment for a home birth. The team completely put us at ease, and it was so lovely to visualise my birthing space; we knew immediately that this was the right decision for us.
Six days before my due date, I was still feeling pretty good. I had been at work in the morning, went for lunch, and watched the air display. At 10:30pm that night, I felt a weird popping sensation. Standing up quickly confirmed that it was my waters, but luckily, it was just a slow trickle. We called the hospital, and they said they would send a midwife around to check.
The midwife arrived shortly after and talked us through the following steps and how long we could leave things before induction, which was incredibly reassuring. Little did we know how fast things would move from there. The midwife left at midnight with instructions to take some paracetamol and to try and get as much sleep as possible. It felt that it was mere minutes after waving goodbye to her that my contractions started. I took some paracetamol and heated a hot water bottle but couldn’t get to sleep as my contractions quickly ramped up. It wasn’t long before we were scrambling to find the TENS machine
load the Freya app. I sent my partner to bed - still thinking it would be hours to go – and found myself pacing downstairs in the dark. I finally found comfort on the downstairs toilet, and that’s where I stayed for the next two hours, completely focused on my hypnobirthing breathing techniques (guided by the Freya App) and the TENS machine. After 45 minutes, the app was telling me I was in active labour, but I didn’t think it was possible. Eventually, at 3 am, I woke Tom, and we called the midwives back. Before the midwives arrived, my contractions had changed to a pushing sensation, and I knew the baby was very much on their way. I just wanted to be left entirely alone in the dark, and my sole focus was guided breathing using the app. When the midwife came back, I was still refusing to move from the downstairs toilet, and she
brought the gas and air to me and checked me where I was; I was already 8cm. She was incredibly reassuring, and I felt very safe and relaxed. I moved to the pool at 5am, and the pain relief was instant, and I was also ready to start pushing straight away. The midwives were incredible and did a really slow guided delivery, and Arabella arrived into the world at 5:25am. I could pick her up myself and discover the gender together with Tom, who had been at my side the whole time.
When I felt ready, I was then moved to our sofa where, after delayed cord clamping, Tom cut the umbilical cord and my placenta was delivered. We were incredibly lucky that Arabella latched straight away and fed for 45 minutes. After this, I showered and changed into fresh clothes while the midwives tidied up and worked through the checks. I honestly felt so relaxed and comfortable through the whole experience and loved that I didn’t have to worry about anyone else being around. About two hours after Arabella’s birth, we waved goodbye to the team and were ready to curl up in our own bed as a family. The only experience was completely surreal but absolutely perfect.

DREAM CATCHER SLEEP PRACTITIONER
WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, NICKY BARBER, FOUNDER OF DREAM CATCHER SLEEP PRACTITIONER, AIMS TO HELP FAMILIES GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP.
With over 20 years of experience working with children and closely with parents, Nicky Barber is passionate about supporting families. She graduated with her BA Honor Degree in Childhood Studies from the University of Jersey.
Nicky has two young and energetic sons aged 5 and 14 months. Her eldest son Rafael sparked Nicky's obsession with sleep. Rafael was infamous in their circle of friends for his ability to cope with such a lack of sleep. He would wake frequently throughout the night, and from about 12 months old, he would be up and ready for the day from around 4 in the morning. Nicky found herself attempting to accept that this is just who he is, and maybe he doesn't need much sleep to thrive. She would take him out for walks and bike rides to embrace the additional time with her young son and have the quiet lanes to herself while the rest of the world was still sleepy.
However, as the years passed by and a new baby joined the family, sleep deprivation started to take its toll on the whole family, and something had to change. After many conversations with friends and family, Nicky decided that her passion for supporting children and families and her empathy for sleep deprivation could be the ultimate combination to help not only her own family but others as well.
Nicky went on to qualify as a Level 6 Paediatric Sleep Practitioner, gaining knowledge in the physiology and psychology of sleep, the benefits of good sleep hygiene and routines, supporting families with twins, and common sleep challenges. Providing better sleep for children with additional needs and promoting government guidelines on safe sleep practices are also important.
Since Qualifying, Nicky has been able to put her passion into practice. With her newfound knowledge, creativity, and consistency, she has been able to improve the sleep of both her clients and Rafael. Thanks to Nicky's expertise, Rafael now enjoys a full night's sleep until almost 6 in the morning. This transformation has not only improved Rafael's wellbeing but also enhanced the overall quality of life for their entire family.
Nicky is confident that she can support families in their quest for better sleep. If you would like to know more about Dream Catcher Sleep Practitioner, email nicolabarber2024@outlook.com and book a free 15-minute discovery call to identify areas of sleep challenges and discuss how Nicky can help.
STRENGTHEN FAMILY BONDS WITH QUALITY TIME OVER THE SUMMER
CREATING SHARED EXPERIENCES THAT RESONATE WITH EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY CAN BE A CHALLENGE, BUT IT'S INCREDIBLY REWARDING.
Summer is the perfect time to reconnect with family and create lasting memories. With the hustle and bustle of school and work behind us, we have a unique opportunity to nurture relationships and strengthen family bonds. Here are some ideas to inspire quality time together.
UNPLUG AND CONNECT
Digital Detox: Designate techfree zones or times. Engage in conversations, board games, or puzzles without distractions.
Outdoor Adventures: Enjoy nature together through hiking, camping, or picnics. These activities encourage conversation and shared experiences.
Family Dinners: Make mealtimes a special occasion. Share stories, laugh, and connect over delicious food.
Storytelling and Sharing Memories: Encourage older family members to share stories about their childhood or past experiences. This can be a valuable learning experience for younger generations.
CREATE LASTING MEMORIES
Volunteer Together: Choose a cause your family cares about and give back to the community. This fosters a sense of purpose and shared values.
Learn Something New: Take up a new hobby together, like cooking, gardening,
or painting. Shared interests can bring families closer.
Family Traditions: Establish new traditions or continue existing ones. These rituals create a sense of belonging and anticipation.
FOSTER COMMUNICATION AND UNDERSTANDING
Have regular family meetings to discuss plans, share feelings, and resolve conflicts. Practice active listening to show your children you value their thoughts and opinions and encourage empathy by discussing the feelings of others and teaching them how to respond compassionately. While family time is important, it's also essential to allow for individual pursuits and interests. Encourage family members to spend time alone or with friends.
EMBRACE SPONTANEITY
Plan for spontaneous adventures to keep things exciting and unexpected and allow unstructured time for children to explore their creativity and imagination.
INCLUSIVE ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES
Outdoor Adventures: Hiking, biking, or simply having a picnic in the park are activities everyone can enjoy. Younger children can explore nature, while older kids and adults can engage in conversation or share stories.
"QUALITY TIME ISN'T ABOUT THE QUANTITY OF TIME SPENT TOGETHER BUT THE QUALITY OF INTERACTIONS."
Creative Pursuits: Art and crafts can be adapted to different age levels. Younger children can enjoy finger painting, while older kids and adults can try their hand at pottery or sketching.
Cooking and Baking: Involving the whole family in the kitchen can be both fun and educational. Younger children can help with simple tasks like stirring or measuring, while older kids can learn more complex recipes.
Game Nights: Choose games that cater to different age groups. Board games, card games, or trivia can be enjoyed by everyone.
Remember, quality time isn't about the quantity of time spent together but the quality of interactions. By focusing on shared experiences, open communication, and creating lasting memories, you can strengthen your family bonds and build a foundation for lifelong connections.

TONIIE RUBIO: FINDING A NEW NORMAL AFTER CANCER
AT JUST 24 YEARS OLD, TONIIE RUBIO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THYROID CANCER. AFTER INTENSIVE TREATMENT, SHE IS NOW SIX MONTHS IN REMISSION AND FOCUSSING ON FINDING A NEW NORMAL.
PHOTOGRAPHS BY OLIVER DORAN / HAIR BY DAMIAN PHILPOTT BUTTERFLIES CREATED BY KELLY SWANI
HI, TONIIE. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CANCER DIAGNOSIS?
After finding the lump in my neck, I had an ultrasound, but I had to wait until December 2022 for the biopsy, which came back inconclusive. I was given a six-month estimate for a repeat biopsy, so I decided to go private. In March 2023, I had an operation to remove the right side of my thyroid, which is where the tumour was. A week after the operation, the pathology report came back positive for Thyroid Cancer, Papillary Carcinoma, which had spread to the nearby lymph nodes. I was surprisingly relieved when I received the diagnosis. I was scared, but it also brought peace as everything finally made sense.
I had my second operation in April 2023 to remove the rest of my thyroid (left side) and more lymph nodes to be tested. In October 2023, I had RAI (Radio Active Iodine) treatment, which is a type of Radiotherapy in Southampton, and I was given the all-clear in January 2024 - I'm now six months in remission.
HOW DID YOUR LIFE CHANGE WHEN YOU WERE DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER?
The diagnosis was a complete shock. Suddenly, everything was turned upside down. It was a period of intense fear and uncertainty. I had to undergo multiple treatments, which required complete isolation - it was a very lonely and challenging time.
WHAT KEPT YOU GOING DURING THOSE DIFFICULT MOMENTS?
It was a mix of determination and support from my loved ones. I documented my journey on social media as a personal diary to keep myself accountable. Little did I know that this decision would lead to a powerful connection with others facing similar challenges, creating a supportive community I am proud to be a part of.
"I WAS SURPRISINGLY RELIEVED WHEN I RECEIVED THE DIAGNOSIS. I WAS SCARED, BUT IT ALSO BROUGHT PEACE."
YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU FELT A SENSE OF PURPOSE BY SHARING YOUR JOURNEY. HOW DID THAT INFLUENCE YOUR RECOVERY AND LIFE AFTER CANCER?
It made a huge difference. Opening up about my experiences made me realise I could help others feel isolated and scared. It gave me a reason to push through the tough times. After I went into remission, I continued sharing my story, but I also expanded my content to include general health awareness, mental well-being, and personal growth. It's incredibly fulfilling to know that I can inspire and support others.
WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNT THAT CAN EMPOWER OTHERS?
One of the biggest lessons is the importance of self-love and resilience. I always say, "You must be your biggest fan." When you love and believe in yourself, it radiates outward and positively impacts everything you do. Another important lesson is to take control of your happiness. Life is too short to stay in situations that make you unhappy. You can change your circumstances and create a life you love. These are the lessons that have empowered me, and I hope they can do the same for others.
CAN YOU SHARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED DURING YOUR TREATMENT AND HOW YOU OVERCAME THEM?
The isolation during radioactive iodine treatment was one of the most complex parts. Being completely alone in a hospital room for two weeks was mentally taxing. I focused on small routines, like brushing my hair or reading, to maintain a sense of normalcy. The physical side effects of the treatment, such as nausea and fatigue, were also challenging.
I leaned heavily on my online community for support. Sharing my daily struggles and receiving encouragement from others helped me stay strong.
HOW HAS YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE CHANGED AFTER OVERCOMING CANCER?
My perspective has changed dramatically. I used to stress about the little things, but now I see them as trivial. Surviving cancer has given me a profound appreciation for life. I'm grateful, present, and determined to make the most of every day. I've also become an advocate for taking responsibility for one's happiness and well-being.
YOU'VE BECOME QUITE AN INSPIRATION FOR MANY. CAN YOU SHARE A QUOTE OR MANTRA THAT YOU LIVE BY?
Absolutely. One of my favourites is "Be the energy you want to attract." It reminds us that our mindset and actions can shape our reality. We can draw positive experiences and people into our lives by staying positive and proactive.
"IT'S OKAY TO HAVE BAD DAYS AND TO FEEL SCARED OR OVERWHELMED."
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS CURRENTLY FACING A SIMILAR BATTLE WITH CANCER OR ANY MAJOR LIFE CHALLENGE?
Take it one day at a time and lean on your support system. It's okay to have bad days and to feel scared or overwhelmed. But remember that you are stronger than you think. Focus on small victories and find something that gives you purpose, whether a hobby, a cause, or connecting with others. And most importantly, feel free to ask for help when needed.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU, TONIIE? ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS OR GOALS?
I'm excited about launching my podcast, "Tea Time with Toniie," where I'll talk candidly with inspiring guests about life, health, and personal growth. I'm also planning some collaborative projects with charities to raise awareness and support for cancer patients. My ultimate goal is to continue growing my platform and positively impacting as many lives as possible.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR STORY, TONIIE. YOUR JOURNEY IS TRULY INSPIRING. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?
Thank you for having me. I want to remind everyone that you're not alone, no matter what you're going through. There is always hope, and there are always people who care. Keep pushing forward, believe in yourself, and never underestimate the power of your resilience.
You can follow Toniie's journey on social media and join a community of resilience and support. Share your own stories, offer encouragement, or connect with others on a similar journey.

RETAIN THAT SUMMER GLOW
EVERYONE LOVES THAT HEALTHY SUMMER GLOW.
LIDO AESTHETIC DERMATOLOGY HAS THE PERFECT SOLUTION FOR YOU TO HAVE IT ALL YEAR ROUND.
Hydro-Beauty Facial has become our favourite treatment as it restores skin's radiance and glow with no downtime. Hydro-Beauty Facial is non-invasive treatment that uses proprietary technology to cleanse, extract, hydrate and transform the skin to reveal an instant glow. The patented vortex fusion technology works like a vacuum to gently exfoliate and open up the pores, visibly extract dirt and debris, and infuse targeted serums into the skin for ultimate skin health.
This professional procedure may help treat various skin conditions, including acne, dryness, and wrinkles. The non-invasive procedure is similar in principle to a regular facial but is said to provide longer-lasting results. The procedure is completed in three parts after a thorough consultation and skin analysis with a medical professional. Treatment can improve skin texture and overall skin tone, purge and reduce enlarged pores, help reduce redness, and promote hydration. Treatment has also been successful in improving the appearance of pigmentation and dark spots caused by sun damage.
The frequency of Hydro-Beauty Facial sessions depends on your skin type and the therapist's recommendations. Some individuals can benefit from repeating the treatment every six weeks, while others should do it every two weeks to improve specific skin concerns and achieve the best optimal result. A Facial Aesthetic Therapist can help you determine the correct number of sessions based on your skin condition and goals.
As there is no downtime, you can resume your daily activities as normal. However, your skin might feel a little bit
tight, and an SPF of at least 30 is highly recommended. Treatment results will vary from individual to individual, typically lasting for a couple of weeks.
We use a medical-grade skincare product range, ZO Skin Health, which is adapted to each individual's needs. It was developed by world-famous dermatologist Dr Zein Obagi and is now sold in over 100 countries worldwide. ZO Skin Health formulations are continuously innovated and refined to optimise skin health and deliver outstanding results for every patient. The ZO Skin Health product range is suitable for anyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, unique skin condition, or skin type.

SUMMER SOCIAL ANXIETY: BEATING THE HEAT OF UNWANTED ATTENTION
SUMMER IS TYPICALLY A SEASON OF RELAXATION AND FUN, FILLED WITH SOCIAL GATHERINGS. HOWEVER, FOR MANY PEOPLE, THE WARMER MONTHS BRING A SURGE OF SOCIAL ANXIETY.
Social anxiety is a mental health condition characterised by intense fear and selfconsciousness in social situations. While it can occur yearround, summer can exacerbate these feelings due to increased social pressure and exposure. The abundance of social events, from beach parties to backyard barbecues, can be overwhelming. Additionally, summer attire often reveals more skin, leading to heightened body image insecurities. The casual, outdoor nature of summer events can also amplify the fear of being judged or scrutinised.
The effects of social anxiety can be far-reaching. It can lead to avoidance of social events, impair relationships, erode self-esteem, and manifest physically as sweating, blushing, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty breathing. While there's no one-size-fits-all solution, various strategies can help manage summer social anxiety.
Identifying and challenging negative thought patterns about social situations is crucial. Cognitivebehavioral therapy (CBT) can be particularly helpful in this regard. Gradually increasing exposure to social events, combined with mindfulness and relaxation techniques like meditation and deep breathing, can also be beneficial. A healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep, can improve overall mood and resilience. For those whose social anxiety significantly impacts their life, seeking professional help through therapy or medication may be necessary.
In addition to these general strategies, specific summer self-care tips can help manage anxiety. Planning ahead by carefully choosing social events and planning outfits in advance can reduce stress. Focusing on the present moment, rather than worrying about potential negative outcomes, is essential. Setting realistic expectations and building a support system of understanding friends or family members can also be helpful. Practice
self-compassion and acknowledge that everyone experiences anxiety at times.
While summer can be challenging for those with social anxiety, it can also be an opportunity for personal growth. It's important to remember that millions of people experience social anxiety, and seeking support and implementing coping strategies can make a significant difference in enjoying the summer months.
CRYSTAL BOWL MEDITATIONS
EMBARK ON A JOURNEY OF SOUND HEALING THAT WILL LEAVE YOU FEELING RELAXED, SERENE AND ENTIRELY AT PEACE.
Crystal Bowl Meditations, an experience with crystal singing bowls made of pure crystal quartz, offer an extraordinary auditory journey through pure harmonic tones. These tones induce altered states of consciousness as they resonate through every cell of the body, expanding awareness and facilitating profound emotional release.
THE SCIENCE OF RESONANCE
The human body has a natural affinity to crystal quartz due to its crystalline structure, mirrored in our bones, DNA, and blood. The pure tones from the crystal bowls resonate deeply with the physical and subtle bodies, promoting healing on multiple levels. Each bowl contains the full spectrum of light related to the seven chakras and their associated musical notes. Acting as powerful transmitters, these bowls are renowned for their 'pure tone' quality, embodying the vibration of white light.
CHAKRA ALIGNMENT AND HEALING
The sound vibrations produced by crystal singing bowls help restore the normal and natural frequencies of the mind, body, and soul. Each note of the bowls corresponds to one of the seven major chakras, the body's energy centres. Balancing these centres is crucial for maintaining health and harmony. When chakras become imbalanced—either blocked and under-active or intense and overactive—the whole being suffers, leading to emotional blocks and eventually physical illness. Crystal bowl meditations offer a pure form of sound healing, realigning and resonating with these energy centres.
Crystal Bowl Meditations offer a holistic approach to healing, balancing, and rejuvenating the mind, body, and soul. This practice fosters a harmonious state of being by aligning the chakras and restoring the natural frequencies. Whether seeking stress relief, emotional clarity, or physical healing, the pure tones of crystal bowls provide a transformative meditative experience. Embrace the sound healing journey and discover the profound benefits of Crystal Bowl Meditations.

FORGIVENESS: THE JOURNEY TO INNER PEACE
FORGIVENESS IS A POWERFUL TOOL FOR PERSONAL GROWTH AND TRANSFORMATION. WE TAKE A LOOK AT THE BENEFITS, PROCESS AND CHALLENGES TO FORGIVENESS.
Forgiveness is a complex human emotion that involves letting go of resentment and anger towards someone who has harmed you. It's a journey, not a destination, and a choice that can profoundly impact your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. While it may seem counterintuitive to extend compassion to someone who has caused you pain, forgiveness can liberate you from bitterness and resentment. Forgiveness is often misunderstood as condoning or justifying harmful behaviour. It's important to clarify that forgiveness does not equate to reconciliation or forgetting. It's about releasing the negative emotions that bind you to the past and choosing to move forward with your life.
There are two primary aspects of forgiveness: interpersonal forgiveness, which involves letting go of resentment toward another person who has hurt you, and selfforgiveness, which is the process of forgiving yourself for mistakes or shortcomings.
THE BENEFITS OF FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness offers numerous benefits for both the forgiver and the forgiven. Improved mental health: Holding onto resentment can lead to chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and even physical ailments. Forgiveness can help reduce these negative emotions and promote overall well-being.
Enhanced relationships: Forgiveness can strengthen relationships by fostering trust, empathy, and understanding. It can also prevent the cycle of resentment from continuing. Increased self-esteem: Forgiving yourself can help boost selfconfidence and self-worth. It allows you to learn from your mistakes and move forward with a positive outlook.
Spiritual growth: Many people find that forgiveness is a spiritual practice that deepens their connection to
Don't suppress your feelings or pretend they don't exist.
Understand the other person's perspective: Try to see the situation from the other person's point of view without justifying or excusing their behaviour. This can help you develop empathy and compassion.
Make a conscious decision to forgive: Forgiveness is a choice. Decide that you are ready to let go of resentment and move forward.
Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself throughout the process.
" FORGIVENESS DOES NOT EQUATE TO RECONCILIATION. IT'S ABOUT RELEASING THE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS THAT BIND YOU TO THE PAST."
themselves and others.
Physical health: Research suggests that forgiveness may contribute to lower blood pressure, improved heart health, and a more robust immune system.
THE FORGIVENESS PROCESS
Forgiveness is not a one-time event but a process that unfolds over time. Here are some steps you can take to cultivate forgiveness: Acknowledge your pain: Allow yourself to feel the full range of emotions associated with the hurt, including anger, sadness, and betrayal.
Forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made, and allow yourself to heal at your own pace.
Let go of the need for revenge: Forgiveness does not mean condoning the other person's actions. It means letting go of the desire to hurt them back.
Focus on the present: Don't dwell on the past. Instead, focus on creating a positive future for yourself.
Seek support: Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist about your experience. Sharing your feelings can be cathartic and help you gain new perspectives.
CHALLENGES TO FORGIVENESS
A multitude of obstacles can hinder this process. The depth of the hurt inflicted is a primary challenge; severe betrayals or traumas can cast a long shadow, making it difficult to let go of anger and resentment. Additionally, the absence of remorse from the offender can create a formidable barrier to forgiveness. Fear of being hurt again can also paralyse individuals, preventing them from extending grace. Moreover, societal pressures or cultural expectations may dictate holding onto grudges, complicating the forgiveness journey.
FORGIVENESS AND RECONCILIATION
While forgiveness is often a prerequisite for reconciliation, it doesn't guarantee it. Reconciliation is the process of rebuilding a relationship after a breach of trust or
" THERE'S NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO CHOOSE WHAT BRINGS YOU PEACE AND HEALING."
hurt. It involves open communication, empathy, and a willingness to work through the pain together.
Unlike forgiveness, reconciliation requires participation from both parties. It's possible to forgive someone without seeking reconciliation - this can happen when the relationship is too damaged to
repair, or when the forgiver chooses to prioritise their own healing without reconnecting.
Ultimately, the decision to forgive and reconcile is a deeply personal one. There's no right or wrong answer. The most important thing is to choose what brings you peace and healing.
THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness has a ripple effect that extends beyond the individuals involved. When you choose to forgive, you contribute to a more compassionate and healing world. By breaking the cycle of resentment, you inspire others to do the same. Forgiveness is a powerful tool for personal growth and transformation. It can help you heal from past wounds and create a brighter future. Remember, forgiveness is a choice, and it's a choice that can set you free.

ICED TREATS
RECIPES BY CHRISTIAN GOTT
"Alcoholic ice cream! Why should children have all the fun with cooling summer lollipops and desserts? Here are three great grown-up iced treats to enjoy at the end of a day on the beach or at a great back garden barbecue. Bloody Mary Granita is a great appetiser or palate cleanser with a lick of chilli. Gin and tonic lollipops are so refreshing and packed with zesty lime flavours. For something luxurious to finish a summer dinner party, try roasted pineapple with some muscovado sugar served with my luscious Pina Colada ice cream."
BLOODY MARY GRANITA
Granita is crunchy ice, flavoured with fruit or coffee - a light, refreshing way to finish a meal. Fresh horseradish root grated over the finished granita will add another kick.
INGREDIENTS
750ml Tomato Juice
150ml Vodka
1 tbsp Golden Caster Sugar
2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp Tabasco Sauce
½ tsp Celery Salt
½ tsp Sweet Paprika
Juice of a Lemon, freshly squeezed Freshly ground Black Pepper
METHOD
1. Combine all the ingredients, excluding the vodka, and mix thoroughly. Pour 80 percent of the mixture into a baking tray and place it in the freezer.
2. Mix the remaining tomato mixture with the vodka and place in the freezer. Because of the alcohol in the mix, it will not solidify.
3. After half an hour, break up the pure tomato juice mixture with a fork to prevent large ice crystals from forming. Mix roughly every thirty minutes for at least three hours until the mixture is frozen.
4. To serve, scrape the granita with the fork again and mix with the ice-cold vodka. Transfer to serving bowls or glasses and serve.
GIN AND TONIC ICE LOLLIES
You can use whatever gin you like and garnish it with cucumber, mint, or thin lemon slices. My personal preference is for a fruity gin and summer fruits.
INGREDIENTS
250ml Premium Tonic Water, you can use flavoured
75ml Rhubarb Gin
60g Caster Sugar
Zest and juice of a Lime
A handful of Summer Fruits, washed and dried
METHOD
1. Mix the gin, tonic, sugar, lime juice and zest in a jug and stir until the sugar dissolves.
2. Drop a selection of berries into each mould and pour in the gin and tonic mix. Add the lollipop sticks and carefully transfer them to the freezer. Freeze overnight before removing.
PINA COLADA ICE CREAM
This recipe doesn’t require an ice cream machine. If you don’t want to use alcohol, substitute the rum for three teaspoons of rum essence.
INGREDIENTS
500ml Double Cream
250ml Pineapple Juice
120ml Rum
200g block Creamed Coconut
100g Icing Sugar
225g Pineapple, cut into small chunks
Juice of 1 Lime
1 tbsp toasted Coconut flakes
METHOD
1. Mix the icing sugar, creamed coconut, and lime juice in a bowl. When combined, stir in the rum and pineapple juice.
2. Whisk up the cream to thick peaks, then slowly mix in the Pina Colada mix. Spoon into an airtight container and transfer to the freezer.
3. After an hour, take it out and stir the mix, adding the pineapple pieces and the coconut. Return to the freezer for at least four hours before serving.
