Kia ora koutou We have started athletics training in preparation for the Pelorus Cluster Athletics Day, held at Havelock domain on Friday 27th November. Each day at 12:20pm we gather as a whole school and rotate through various stations to develop our skills in run, jump and throw activities. We welcome any parents/ whānau who wish to join us with this, or any other school activity.

A big thank you to Graeme Barsanti, who has been helping us get our swimming pool ready for the Summer. It’s not quite ready yet as we have some repairs to do to the solar panels on the roof, which means there’s currently no solar heating. This will be a quick fix once the parts arrive. If you would like to get a pool key for the Summer, come see Mandy at the office. They’re $70, which includes a $20 bond that we refund when the key is returned (usually around Easter).

Is there anybody in the community who would like to take responsibility for pool maintenance over the Summer holidays? We can offer a small koha and free pool key for the entire season. Please contact the office if you are available and willing. Ideally this would suit somebody local.

Our local curriculum is currently being reviewed in preparation for a revamp. We are lucky that our New Zealand curriculum document allows us the freedom to choose the right balance to fit with what our school community deems to be the most important. The curriculum areas we are integrating into our local curriculum are Social Science, Science, Technology, Health & PE and The Arts.

One aspect of the review is to gather community voice. You may have seen a link on Facebook asking for feedback, using this link to a google form, https://forms.gle/22mjVv5r7VbH62kV6. If you don’t have access to a computer and would like to have your say, please contact me at the details below. We value community input as there is a lot of knowledge and history in our community to be shared.

Due to the Principal position being filled by internal appointment last term, we are now advertising for an experienced senior teacher to fill the permanent teaching position in Pelorus to replace me.

The person we are seeking will have exceptional classroom expertise and leadership aspirations.

The position is attached to the Deputy Principal role and will begin in Term 1, 2021.

Assembly is at 2:30pm this Friday, in the school hall. The Pickering whānau group is leading and all classes will have an opportunity to share. A reminder that while in Covid Alert Level 1 we welcome visitors to school in all classes, as we have an open door policy, which means parents are welcome to come into school anytime they please.

Havelock School Board of Trustees Casual vacancies.

Tēnā koutou katoa, The two casual elected parent representative vacancies that were available on the Havelock School board of trustees have failed to be filled at the close of elections on November 1st 2020 Due to a lack of nominations at the recent board elections, the board have decided to fill the vacancies by selection.

If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill either of these vacancies, then a by-election will be held instead.

Sponsored Walk to Raise Funds for the Havelock Community Library.

This event took place on Sunday 20th Sept as planned. Seven walkers set off from the Havelock i-Site at 8am and arrived at the Picton i-Site at 6.15pm, weary, but having really enjoyed the walk on the Link Pathway. Three quarters of the distance was off-road, on well-formed and graded tracks through the bush, and often beside the sea, which was very pleasant.

We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us so generously, and also those who offered encouragement and support in other ways. $3,000 was raised for the Havelock Community Library through this collaborative effort.
