Havelock Community Education Service Chairperson’s report 2021 The Havelock Community Education Service has been in recess (in part) since 2018 and has recently become active again. During this time courses were still arranged by Rita (co-ordinator) and financially supported by REAP Marlborough for the HCES. All course fees were collected by REAP as well as payments for Tutors and venues being made. Since 2018, twenty First Aid courses were held with 113 participants and one welding course with three participants. The not-for-profit Pelorus People website now has twenty three subsites. This website was created with a grant from COGS and annual hosting and domain names have been paid in the past by funds which were granted. We are now applying for same for the 2021-2022 year. The Community Organisations Database on the website is constantly being updated. This involves emailing the organisations and changes being made by HCES secretary. I would like to thank the co-ordinator, Rita, for arranging courses, updating the website and applying for grants. Jeanette Nicholls CHAIRPERSON
Kia ora koutou We have recently engaged in the recruitment process for two permanent teaching positions at Havelock School; one due to roll growth (from fixed-term to permanent) and the other to replace Toni Johnson’s permanent teaching position, as Toni resigned while on maternity leave this year. Our appointment panel was very fortunate to have a strong pool of candidates to select from. Congratulations to Emma Parnwell on her appointment to the full-time, permanent teaching position. Emma has now permanently replaced Toni. Emma will continue teaching in Kaituna for 2022. Also, congratulations to Maddie Cowie who has been appointed a permanent part-time position. Maddie will be job sharing in Kenepuru with her husband, Dan Cowie, who is also a familiar face within the school, from his relieving back in 2020. Lastly, congratulations to Ethan Davidson for his permanent appointment at Waitakere Primary School. Thank you for the work you’ve done in the short time you’ve been here, Ethan. You’ve been an asset to the team, the kids will miss you greatly. As consistency is important to us, we are very lucky to be moving forward with faces already familiar to our students, staff and families. Jacqueline Pretty will continue to teach in Wakamarina and Jill Heaps in Pelorus, for 2022. I’d also like to introduce our newprincipal caretaker. His name is Connall Crafts and he resides over the hill and will also be doing the caretaker job at Linkwater School. Connall has taken over from Page Jim Baillie, who is soon to be relocating to Motueka. A big thanks to Jim for all the work you’ve done throughout the year, and the many, many ‘Mr fix-it’ tasks you’ve taken on, often going above and beyond. All the best in Motueka!
