Maleny Food Lane battling to stay operating!
M
Sunshine Coast Council is ordering organisers to stop the music by May 6th.
aleny Lane is just a little hidden glen off Maple Street in the centre of the business area has become a mecca for food lovers, with nine international food stalls. Over the past year the food court has grown in popularity with the invent of live music, particularly the intimate night concerts featuring musicians, poets, storytellers. Events consist of FrontUp Chalkboard on Monday nights and on Friday nights there is a Twilight dinner. These events offer an opportunity for emerging artists to perform music, poetry and dance - a with local or travelling musicians.
Local Councillor, Mr. Winston Johnston is presently working with the organisers to attempt to nd a resolution that would appeal to all parties. It would appear that mostly the community is behind Maleny Lane’s live music as a “Save Maleny Lane Live Music” petition attracted over 3,800 signatures. As a result the council has advised that for now, the music can continue on Monday and Friday nights whilst a compromise solution is found. Visit the Maleny Lane and the FrontUp Chalkboard Facebook page for updates.
Long time Maleny resident, Steve McLeish was one of the main instigators of the events in an effort to give artists and young people a place to incubate their musical abilities. Mr McLeish says the events have received noise complaints, but he has always worked with residents to nd a solution which included the building a soundproof wall at the location off the main street. As a result of the complaints the Sunshine Coast Council recently requested that the events cease by May 6, 2022.
