Maleny District Sport & Recreation Club Community Newsletter What do you want our district to look like? The Sunshine Coast Council has started the complex process to form a new planning scheme before 2024. In partnership with the community, council will spend the next few years developing a new planning scheme to shape future land use and development across the region.
what you can do with your land and what your neighbour can do with theirs
A planning scheme is a set of planning principles prepared by council to guide what can be built and where. It is about making sure the right development happens in the right locations.
The Sunshine Coast hinterland around the Maleny area is a very special place to live and if we want to ensure that our area remains as the very liveable area that we have enjoyed then it is important that the Sunshine Coast Council gets their new planning scheme right. Already we are starting to see some changes in our area that do not go well with our perception of the future.
Planning schemes apply to land that you own or rent and affects
The planning scheme is, and will continue to be, the key tool to
assist council in responding to growth management challenges. The new planning scheme is intended to be in place by 2024 and the Council has now appointed a Planning Scheme Project Community Reference Group. The members provide a broad representation, from a range of areas of interest, gender, age groups, communities and locations across our region. You need to play your part and make submissions to Council about how you wish to see our area developing in the future.
