T
he Maleny Players next production will be ‘The Shake-speare Project’ written and directed by Andrew Robjohns.
As 2023 is the 400yr anniversary of the printing of the First Folio of Shakespeare’s Plays – Comedies, Histories and Tragedies, the Shakespeare Project has been written to celebrate this signi cant work on this occasion. It also explores the idea of whether it is; ‘A Conspiracy or Truth! Did Shakespeare write the works that are attributed to him?’
through the discovery and exploration of classic texts utilising voice, movement and stagecraft. Actors build an ensemble that values both the dramatic process as well as high-quality performance. In this supportive and transformative environment centuries-old texts are given new life and relevance not only for the actors, audience, and community.
The play follows the struggle of a young woman completing her master’s thesis on the production of the First Folio. You also will witness insights that she is given into revelatory scenes that show not only who wanted the plays produced, but also who did not. The history of The Shakespeare Project started In October 1983 when the Riverside Shakespeare Company, then New York City's only year-round professional Shakespeare theatre company, inaugurated The Shakespeare Project, based at the theatre company's home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, The Shakespeare Centre. Project Shakespeare engages and inspires theatre artists
