M aleny Cricket Club is at a crossroads and are in desperate need of new committee and playing members. The Maleny Cricket Club has had a long history of providing the community with the opportunity to play cricket in the Thehinterland.firstcricket pitch was installed at the Maleny Showgrounds in 1925. Maleny and District had its own competition with teams from Maleny, Witta, Kenilworth, Elaman Creek and Baroon Pocket competing against each other. Later the Maleny Cricket Club was formed and joined the Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast) Cricket AtCompetition.itspeakduring the 1980s & 90s, Maleny had four or five senior teams playing in divisions ranging from 2nds to 6ths and junior teams competing in all age Ingroups.the2000's, the club’s numbers fluctuated, growing as groups of juniors made their way through the grades to play senior cricket. More recent times have seen a decline in numbers. Last season saw the Maleny Cricket Club field one 3rd Division senior team and two Master Blaster junior sides. The club’s current committee are long time members of the club. Some of the committee members have been involved in the club since they started their own junior cricket career. The club has relied on volunteers donating hundreds of hours to keep the club However,running.itis time for a change and new blood to take over for the club to move forward. Work, study and family commitments have seen the current crop of senior players diminish as well.

Last week the Maleny Visitor Information Centre members held their AGM at King Ludwig’s German Restaurant. The new owner, John treated members royally with delicious strudel. Who wouldn’t want to be at the AGM? The committee thanked their Guest Speaker, John te Kloot, who is Chairman of the group formed by the Friends of Pattemore House undertaking the restoration of the Pattemore's (Fairview) cow bails (The Old Bails) on the Maleny Precinct. The Fairview Bails are listed on the Sunshine Coast Council's list of significant places. John explained that the purpose of the project is to restore and preserve the Fairview milking shed and yards for the future education and enjoyment of all. This includes the six unique walk-through cow bails, to enable visitors safe access to guided tours and non-entry

Well before, if you have a telescope to set up and/ or want to help set up for public presentation. Your help will be gratefully accepted. The Sunshine Coast Astronomers will do a presentation, followed by laser guided tour of the night sky and telescope viewing. It is likely to be cool so dress warm. Beanies scarfs and gloves a must. Bring what you think you will need - then double it! We will do a weather update on Friday, just watch out for this on our facebook page. I am happy to advise that the Maleny Showground road and carpark construction has been Workscompleted.included a new 150m road formalising the access to the ground keeper's accommodation and storage shed, as well as extending the access to the south east of the Showgrounds, and around to the rear of the Equestrian Arena. The Maleny Rangers Football Club have gained 10 new formal carparks and 1 PWD bay out the front of their club, as well as a hard stand area to assist with parking at training and game day. Included with these works was much needed drainage through the site. These works will also provide more facilities during the conduct of the Maleny annual agricultural show.

Across Queensland, QCWA branch members celebrated the Association’s 100th anniversary on 11 August. Maleny has had a QCWA Branch after a public meeting was held in the School of Arts in 1929 and the Association was formed.

The Maleny Community Centre committee will hold the AGM for the centre on Friday September 9th at 9.30a.m. in the Maleny Community Centre. Nominations are being called for all positions on the committee along with general committee members. All nominations must be lodged and in the hands of the secretary by 5p.m. on August 25th. Nomination forms are available by email from: secretary@malenycc.org or directly from the MCC Office at 1 BiCentenary Lane, Maleny between 9.30a.m. and 12.30a.m. Monday to Friday.

Thursday, 11th August Vince and Val Carbery teamed up to play Donna Manning and Kath Smith in a game of Association doubles on lawn 1, a game which the married pair won 11-6. Vince and Val have great stories of playing doubles together along the east coast of SarahAustralia.Widin, preparing for the Nell Hass and the Queensland open championship completely outclassed Ken Barker beating him 17 – 2 in a game which Ken never really got into. Wallace Roy played a team of Sally Adams and Helen Uhlmann at golf croquet. Three games were completed. Wallace won all of them. Several regulars played at Headland Buderim club, leaving Helen Andrews and Wallace as the only players on the lawn on Sunday 14th . Wallace beat Helen in a game of Association croquet 11 – 8.

The Nell Hass memorial tournament was conducted under the energetic and able stewardship of Carolyn Aldrich and her team of helpers at Headland Buderim club. This is always a tournament where a large contingent of players from the Range club have participated. 2022 was no exception. Nick Cram, Sarah, Vince, Val, and Kath played, with Donna refereeing. All acquitted themselves well. Sarah won the prize for her block after coming in second to the overall winner Galena Makarova from Noosa club. Thanks to Headland Buderim for hosting an enjoyable well-run Playtournament.days:Thursday and Sunday 1.00 pm for 1.30. Contact Sarah Widin for other days. The Maleny Neighbourhood Centre is part of the JP's in the Community Program. This program is available to witness signatures and certify your routine legal documents such as wills, affidavits, statutory declarations. Hours that J.P’s are in attendance are 9.30am–12.30pm Monday to Friday.

Our courts may be available for community use or for special events, like workplace teambuilding or social gathering. Our croquet equipment may be available for your guests in some special occasion (e.g. wedding) if suitable grounds are available.
